Well there I was, enjoying a little Sunday morning doze, when I was suddenly awoken by a large ginger cat leaping onto the bed...and letting go of a live pigeon
The confusing thing is, I don't have a catflap yet and all the doors and windows were closed. I can only imagine that it fell down the chimney although even that doesn't sound terribly plausible.
Anyway, Geoffrey conveniently cornered it by a window which I opened, and it flew away fine. How bizarre that their first encounter with a bird is within the confines of the house instead of the garden!

Hmmm....strange indeed! Maybe its the cats who have been going in and out all the time via the chimney! :evillaugh:
-
Pigeons are not the brightest of birds so it is not completely impossible it fell down the chimney, but unusual, to say the least. And a bit too exciting a way to wake up for my taste
-
Definitely far too exciting for a morning. Well I've been round the house and the chimney is the only possible place it could have got in (although the fireplace is completely undisturbed so the cats obviously didn't find it until it had stumbled out of there!
Do you think a pigeon in the house counts towards the great garden birdwatch

Oh nooooooooo!!! Think I would prefer tea and toast in bed any morning to that!!! Glad it was still alive!! We used to get small birds flying from the back of our gas fire in an old house I lived in but not had any n the house I live in now and I'm near fields with big black birds and lots of magpies - oh dear!!!
Hope your little darling doesn't bring you too many exotic delights for breakfast in the future.

My gran got birds down her chimney more than once, so quite possible. What a shock!

Well would you believe it's happened again? This time a starling. I had to carry Geoffrey (bird firmly clamped in mouth) to a window and prise his jaws open. One of these days it's going to happen while we're out and it's no doubt going to be messy when we get home
-
Very messy. Discovered the feathers of what looked like an entire flock of birds behind my sofa when cleaning this weekend
-
Very familiar. The other weekend I woke up (hungover and codeyed) with a bird flapping around over my head.
A couple of days later I woke up to the lovely sound of a mouse massacre on our new bedroom carpets. I was cleaning up mouse tails and guts at 6am, when I could be sleeping and dreaming of pleasant things.

Many years ago, when we had three cats and dogs, I walked into my kitchen and a sparrow flew at me from one top of one of the cupboards. I ran out shrieking, the sparrow was flying round the room squawking, three cats were chasing it meowing and the dogs were chasing the cats barking. It was madness until my daughter managed to sort it out. I would have loved to have seen a video of it!!!!

Blimey bet you were shocked.
My Sofa brought a huge magpie in once still alive. I was more releived Sofa was ok as the beek was huge and this bird was enourmous - no idea how she got it!
