Hi, I'm new to the board and new to kittydom. I picked up my rescue cat 3 weeks ago and I'm still trying to get to grips with reading her mind.
I'm trying to get her to eat wet and dry food (she was on all dry in the shelter) and have found a few flavours she likes. This morning I found a flavour of wet pouches she didn't like. I spooned out half the pouch and left her to it while I had my shower. When I cam back she hadn't eaten it, so I gave her some dry food and took the wet away. However, just now (3 hours after first eating) she's staring at me and following me into the kitchen looking hopeful. She still has some dry in her bowl so I tried the trick of picking it up and out of her sight whilst moving the biscuits around (so she thinks it's fresh) and then putting it down. She didn't even sniff it, just gave me a look of contempt. So I tried her with the other half of the pouch from this morning, heated it up slightly (it had been in the fridge) and put it down. She comes bounding up, sniffs it, looks at me and start eating her dry biscuits. It was like she's telling me, "Well if that's the best you can do".
LOL, she makes me chuckle.

Oh Lily, we all know this performance. What she is hoping is that you will worry about her not eating, and then offer her prawns, chicken or best steak! They always try to make you feel guilty - this is what cats do. This is so you will know that you are their slave and believe me, you will never make her think differently. It's a good job we love them

Ah yes, welcome to the world of cat ..... :evillaugh:
Its often a lot of trial and error in finding foods they will like, luckily my boy is quite straightforward in that department, but I know many folks on here have cupboards full of different types of food, as they keep changing their minds about what they will or won't eat.
They can be ever so fickle, but we love 'em :)
Welcome to Purrs by the way, need some piccies of your furbabe if you can, its the law you know :evillaugh:

Welcome. I could open a pet store with the amount of different foods I have in my cupboard. Just when I think Dragan is mad about something he point blank refuses to eat it and will scoff something that he refused to look at the previous week.

:tired: Ah yes, the "isn't there something better on offer?" dance.... :evillaugh: Our two aren't too bad - they eat most things, but we have to be sure to have at least 3 different types of cat food (in multiple flavours)in at any one time, as they won't eat the same type twice in a row :tired: :evillaugh: So we have to endlessly rotate what they get, while also making sure they both get the exact same at any one feeding session, or they try to steal each others.... :evillaugh:

what would we be doing if we were not dancing to their tune anyway, probably sitting at the puter all day :evillaugh:

Oh you cant read their minds   They are always a few pawprints ahead of their slaves ;D

Gill are you telling me you are not telepathic
-
Oh yes definately when it comes to cats

You're all mad you know. Mine don't get allowed to be fussy. If they don't eat it the dog does - they soon learn (and steal his food when he is not looking   )
