Nearly here and Im getting nervous, dont know what to expect :scared: I just hope he will be ok and everything goes well for him.
-
I wish Oliie the very best tomorrow and hope that this will be the start of a normal life for him
-
All the best Ollie
-
Awwww sending lots of good wishes that this is the start of much better things :blow kiss:
Good luck Ollie!
-
:luck: Ollie I'm sure he'll be just fine CC, tomorrow is the beginning of the rest of his life :) The boys may even throw a mini party for him once he's home tucking into a nice tea :)
-
It's a case of "cruel to be kind" CC - Clapton is a new cat since he had his last teeth out. He is so much healthier and happier - so will Ollie be
It really won't take long for him to feel the benefit - it will be a new lease of life.
-
Thanks peeps :Luv:
I know it's the right thing to do I have no doubts in my mind, I have already been too cruel to him by listening to crap vets and letting it go on for this long. It has been a case of I dont know what I got till it's gone, nearly :(
I suppose Im just worried about the after, the pain, the getting used to no teeth but I suppose it's better than the pain he would of suffered if he was not treated.
I just hope me little black boy can recover from this and he gets a pain free life, after all he does deserve it.
-
Good luck tomorrow Ollie, I'm sure you'll be fine :Luv2: :Luv2: CC, it may be worth getting some A/D food in for him to eat until his gums have healed abit, this will be much better for him
-
What is it and where would I get it?
-
Hills A/D is a convalescing food, it's a bit like Pate and is very soft and palatable so won't hurt his gums. You can get it from your vets.
-
Is that the only place? How much is it and how much will I need?
-
It's usually round about £1.25 a tin but obviously it depends on your vet and it depends on how much Ollie eats as it's only a small tin :shy: I think you can buy it online but I've only ever bought it from the vets. I usually feed mine this for about 3 days after the op, some cats don't eat alot of food straight away with their mouths being sore but Billy wolfed all his food down as soon as I got him home ;)
-
"Good Luck" at the vets Ollie....& CC dont worry ;D
-
:cuddle: :cuddle: for Ollie from me, Paddy and Tess
-
Good luck for today - a/d should be a set price, as it is the price the manufacturers set, You can only buy in cans of 24 online, so best to get it from your vet. I have never used it after a dental though, I normally cook them chicken for the first night, and they are generally eating normal food again by the day after (or with some of my cats, teh same night). Snowy had a large amount of teeth out in one go, and was hte only cat to struggle straight after, but it was a different vet, and they did a different anaesthetic, so I suspect that was the prob. Ginger had 6 out in one go, refused the soft food I had bought and asked to go out - but you could still see the anaesthetic in his eyes!!
-
Good luck, Ollie!
Let us know how it goes, CC
-
good luck for today
-

Prices vary as I pay less than what my friend pays at her vets.
-
Hopefully the vet will give him a shot of Metacam but it might be worth asking as not all vets are too concerned with pain relief. Clapton had one shot on the day and another a few days later when he went for a check up.
Good luck - I'm sure it will all be fine
(I thought I had posted this already  )
-
Good luck for today, I'm sure Ollie will be fine :hug:xx
-
Good luck ollie ;D
Hopefully he will get a bottle of painrelief!
-
True,
I think my vet didn't want to give Clapton too much re CRF
-
Bottle of pain relief?
I think a pain killer will be included.
-
Yep he will have a jab but it wears off after 24hrs or so. In a big dental you often get some oral metacam to follow on with, Simon enjoyed his very much as its honey flavoured, yum yum ;D
-
I suppose Im just worried about the after, the pain, the getting used to no teeth but I suppose it's better than the pain he would of suffered if he was not treated.
Old Mog has no teeth and it doesn't stop her! I wasn't even aware until she went for a vet visit and he said "oh, she's got no teeth!" :shy: She's never had any trouble eating dry or wet and still loves crunchy treats. (She is a little odd, though!) She's currently sat on my knee headbutting my arm, actually!
Good luck, Ollie! ;D
-
I expected Clapton's tongue to hang out but it doesn't. He still tried to do all the things he did when he had teeth. Gumming grass, grooming is no problem except he can't get the sheaths off his claws. He is none the wiser :Luv2:
-
Gonna phone in a mo, need a cuppa and cigi to calm down :scared:
-
He's fine, just a bit sleepy ;D
He's had all his molars and pre molars out and the roots. Maybe more as the nurse said the vet will know more.
The bloods dont know about yet as the vet hasnt written it up yet ( I asked for his bloods to be taken to test his kidneys and liver because of the steroids ) And the cost at the moment is £189, Well worth it and Im so pleased I've been able to do this for him.
I hope he's ok, 3.45 pick up time :scared:
-
Awww that's fab news, I'm sure he'll be okay bless him and it will be great once his gums have healed  Give him a big cuddle from me when you pick him up
-
good news cc and even the price wasn't bad in the end
-
poor gummy Olliie, still he will doubtless be feeling much better in himself once the healing process is well-advanced.
-
Aw, give him a gentle head rub from me when you collect him later :Luv:
-
Awsome news :)
Whats he having for tea then? :shify:
-
Oooooo - Mr Ollie - prrrrrpf, prrrrp, prrrrrpf, from Paddy an Tess. :wow:
-
Well done, Ollie! ;D Hopefully this will give him a new lease of life.
-
Hear hear! And that sounds like a very reasonable price after all.
;D
-
I think the price is excellent! Just a shame you wernt aware of this ages ago....the PDSA have always led you to believe tooth extraction plus his condition would not be the answer.....Hmmm!!!
Glad Ollie still has his big beautiful fangs! ;D
Sending Ollie lots of healing vibes~~~~~~~~ ;)
-
He's home :) And eaten already.
He's had everything from the fangs removed so about 16 teeth. All in one go. I have to take him back tomorrow to get another painkiller jab and to see how he's doing. They also took a biopsey to see what they are actually dealing with so if he needs meds still they know exactly what to give him. :)
He seems ok in himself.
-
Excellent news. Once the swelling goes he will wonder what a miracle you have performed giving him this nice new painfree mouth :Luv:
-
Hopefully.
-
Great news CC - did you get some metacam? - I found as Clapton's jab wore off, he wasn't so willing to eat - but didn't last for long.

Me too Mark with Freddie. He's bound to be a little sore for a short time. He's had A LOT of teeth out.
I wish someone had warned me tbh coz I was a wee bit concerned but Freddie was right as rain after a couple of days.
Big hugs to Ollie. Brave little man.
-
Well done Ollie, I am sure this is gonna be the best thing in the world for him, he will be a new cat ;D
-
hope you soon feel better Ollie. My Jonty had all his remaining teeth out about three months ago and was so much better for it. The Metacam worked wonders and he was soon eating and racing around.
-
It sounds like CCs vet has a sensible approach to pain relief, of which I heartily approve.
If Ollie has eaten and seems OK in himself, that is a great sign, CC. What a little trooper! Keep up the pain relief: we gave Blip Metacam by mouth for a week after her dental (on the advice of our vet).
 to you all.
-
Aww, so glad it went well and he seems fine - and that is an excellent price if it includes bloods.
-
Well done Ollie, bet you look gorgeous - who needs dentures?
-
I am new here and so shouldn't add to this. But toothless? I have had so many toothless 'wonders'.........
One lost them on her own. Others the vets have taken. But never has there been a problem. They seemed relieved (well, except for those for whom it was medically necessary - i.e. the teeth weren't bad to start with... and it did hurt. And there was a time of convalescence.) I was the one with worries. I will not speak of them 'bouncing back' - that's what cats do, regardless of how they feel. But their behaviour... I would have wished them not to have dry food... yet (because we have that available for others) they chose it. And have done well. I still wish they wouldn't but.. Ollie will be fine. Toothless? My greatest hunter was Brigit. Not a tooth in her mouth and yet she hauled home so many - and many that were easily half her body weight. Maybe she 'gummed' them to death .... I don't know. But she was happy and better than she had been before.
Ollie is likely already o.k. (I have come late). Being toothless is not a bad thing. Sometimes it's the best thing - being free of all that discomfort.
Good on you Ollie!
-
Glad it went well, give Ollie a magical healing head kiss from me and the boys
-
....the PDSA have always led you to believe tooth extraction plus his condition would not be the answer.....Hmmm!!!
The PDSA aren't as much of a help as people think sadly. I use their Petaid scheme and last year Old Mog was on it - the only thing she needed was her T4 test, and they wouldn't pay for it! (Thankfully I'd saved the money because I had a feeling they wouldn't.)
It does make me wonder which of my cats to put on the scheme, because they have loopholes regarding most areas of treatment!
Glad Ollie is doing well. :) Pics please!
-
Thats a fantastic price ;D so glad you told pdsa where to stick it!
Hows Ollie this morning?
-
Oh I have not told them to stick it........ yet :sneaky: Im going to see how Ollie is first and help him get better, then compose everything in my head, which is a lot to remember exactly and write a letter of complaint. Im disgusted with them in all the untruths they have told me. I was greatful for their help dont get me wrong but it just got to the point where they wern't willing to give Ollie the help he needed.
Ollie is ok, he's eat and seems ok. Im getting a slap if I touch him other than his head.
On no what am I going to do- Ollie is a naughty cat and he's just going to go back to being :naughty: normal now
Pics are on me lappy so will do some later. :)
-
So glad Ollie is ik and that everything went well :Luv:
-
Hi CC
I am so pleased to hear that Ollie has come through his op fine and dandy. Look on the bright side...at least now you'll know that the worst he can do is give you a nasty suck....bless him :evillaugh:
His gums will harden up in no time and I betcha he'll be eating biscuits as well before long :innocent:
Get well soon Ollie
Lots of love
Roz
-
Hi CC, glad he's on the mend after yesterday ;D
-
I am new here and so shouldn't add to this.
Of course you should! How else will you become a regular? :Luv:
Encouraging news about Ollie, CC; I think you are right to cross the complaining bridge later
-
So pleased that Ollie wil start playing you up and pushing you arouns, sounds like a normal cat
Its great news he is doing so well ;D
Agree with Christine, Dark, just jump on a few threads and post until your heart is content. Thats what we all do :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
-
I am new here and so shouldn't add to this.
Of course you should ......... :Luv2:
Get well Soon Ollie  glad hes putting you in your place
-
Glad Ollie is doing so well and is already back to ordering you around :evillaugh:
He'll be back on the biccies in no time, our Proot had one fang left when we got him - pork scratchings were one of his favourite treats and even I can't chew those!
-
Ollie before his op :Luv:

Ollie is gorgeios and didnt realize he was a black cat ;D
-
Aww :Luv:
When does he go back for a check up/progress report?
-
He was at the vets yesterday and goes back next Wed.
I had a look in his mouth when the vet did and it's nowhere near as bad as it has looked, the redness I mean. He's starting on Preidistone (sp) tablets on Wed as he cant come off the steroids straight away and guess what they only cost 4p a tablet.
Also get 2 free consults after a dental. Ahh my vets are great.
Gill- a witch is not a witch without a black cat :evillaugh:
-
Aww, good luck wiht him, I love black cats and didn't realise Ollie was one.
-
No, I dont have any stigma's with black cats, which I am sure Molly is relieved about. I jsut dont remember seeing any pics of him before - I only know colors of 3 of your cats (and only cos I have seen 2 threads of yours with pics, and the one in your avatar!!).
-
Me neither, I think that colour is just the society that we live in, it is a lot about looks, and if you go to a shelter that has a large amount of cats, something has to help your decision, and you can't always make one on their personality. We had a woman last week who wanted a black cat and wouldnt consider anything else, she ended up with 2 pure blacks we had!! I personally wouldn't opt for a black and white or a tortie, but then I have never truly picked a cat, they seem to find me, so it doesn't really matter what I would prefer!!
-
I love black cats but didnt know you were a witch
I am pleased that Ollie is doing so well and he sounds like a good vet ;D
-
I must be too what?
-
Glad Ollie's mouth is improving.
-
Not very clear photos but here's Clapton a toothless CRF cat, running up the Wisteria and gumming grass just now :evillaugh:
Also no grooming problems - his fur is always immaculate :Luv2:

I agree cats are lovely what ever colour they are, cats have always been in my life since before I can remember,so we have had so many different colours and I loved them all :Luv:
-
I'm glad Ollie's doing well ;D
-
I'm glad Ollie's doing well ;D
I am too. It all sounds really encouraging ;D
-
Thats good if you can see a change already ;D
-
Ollie's progress sounds extremely encouraging ;D
I love black cats too, but then again I'm biased :Luv2:
-
Hows Ollie doing?
-
Sounds like he's well on the mend :evillaugh:
-
Thats so good ;D
-
Hi CC
Great to hear that Ollie is on the mend but I have absolutely no idea about the swelling. I think you should give the surgery a call in the morning just to put your mind at ease. I'm sure all ops result in bruising etc but......not sure how long the swelling after such an op would last. He did have lots of teeth removed though so that would be quite traumatic to the mouth/jaw area.
Hope it's nothing to worry about.
Well done Ollie
Lots of love
Roz
-
Aww, bless him. I dont remember any swelling when any of mine have had lots of teeth out, but it is years since, so I might have forgot.
-
I'd follow Roz's advice and give the vet a call. I can well imagine Ollie's mouth might be swollen after all those teeth extractions but best to be on the safe side.
-
I would definately call vets and ask.
Doesnt sound like its to do with teeth op to me. He may just need some antibiotics.
-
Wheres CCs post gone :shify: :shify: :shify: :shify:
I was glad to hear he was running around like a looney, i hope he still is
-
I dont knoiw MM but was there when I posted, maybe she has deleted it or havent we gone back far enough?
-
No its definately not there anymore and I wonder why!
-
.....Me too??? :-:
-
Im glad i wasnt going crazy, can CC shed light on this pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee :thanks:
-
How is Ollie?
-
Yes how is he?
-
Please dont worry peeps this will all be sorted soon ;D
-
Ollie is fine, thanks.
-
Ollie at vets yesterday, got his biopsy report back- it's not cancer, it's gingivitis a hypoplasmic kind that can be controlled with steroids. The vet said it looks like his mouth is responding to the steroids and it's getting under control. He gave Ollie an anti-b jab to get rid of the last of the infection. He still has to have 2 steroids a day for the next 2 weeks then he goes back. I nearly died when I paid the bill 46 quid.
I asked him wether there would be a chance of Ollie getting better if he hadn't had his teeth removed, the vet said no. It was a constant infection and the gingivitis was not getting treated because the infection was always formost. So nobody can tell me that the pdsa are propper vets, they would of know what to do if they were. I'm so :censored: annoyed with them!!!!
Ollie is fine, he's eating biscit treats, something he has never done before, he has a nice coat and smelly breath is gone, also being :naughty: from time to time. ;D
-
Would I be allowed Ollie's file from the pdsa? Would my vets have got it off them? I just thinking as you can with doctors lol.
-
glad he is on the mend - when we moved house our old vet faxed over the file to the new one
-
yep, I always obtain records when I move, for me and the animals ...
-
Yes good news he is on the mend :)
-
Glad Ollie is responding so well, that really is super news ;D :Luv:
That goodness you didn't take the original PDSA vet advice and sought a second opinion. I wonder how many people take their word as gospel when perhaps they shouldn't :(
-
Ollie is fine, he's eating biscit treats, something he has never done before, he has a nice coat and smelly breath is gone, also being :naughty: from time to time. ;D
I actually have a tear in my eye reading this :Luv: Well done CC and  to Ollie: he must feel so much better it's hard to imagine.
-
Great news so glad Ollie is enjoying munching his biscuits. Glad too that you ignored the PDSA vet. They wanted to put my neighbour's cat to sleep when she went blind, despite the fact that she was still enjoying life and not in the least distressed. He wouldn't allow it and she lived a few months more happily.
-
CC that's fantastic news. So pleased for the little feller.
-
Glad to hear he is doing well - you might struggle to get his records, the rescues vet doesn't give them out, and my vet wont give me paper copies of blood test results.
-
Great to hear how well he is doing ;D
The vets around here have no problem sharing notes. Vets now have to forward notes to your regular vet so if they can do it normal surgeries should manage it!
-
They cannot refuse you copies of the notes but usually find it easier to send them direct to the new vets.
Cant remember which Act now but the law says you are must be allowed to see all information about you and that includes your cats. Its either and probably, Freedom of Information Act, rather than Data Protection Act.
This will go for copies of all test results too because in this case you have paid for the tests so those results are yours.
On case notes they are allowed to charge a small fee, probably £10 at maximum and any problems citizens Advice Bureau should be able to help.
My vet in London send copies of Kockas notes to my new vets and when Kocka died it took me a long time to get a copy of them but I did.
-
I will be getting Ollie's case notes next Wed so I'll see whats been said then :shify:
My VN said if I had asked the pdsa for them myself they would of had to ask the main office and after that it would have to go to a commity and it would of took a long time to get them because they dont usually give people their pets notes. Then she said as they have been handed over to them and they do give people their pets notes I can have a copy of them :sneaky:
I wonder why the pdsa dont give out case notes? Surely it's a legal right?
Ollie is doing well, he has found a sunny spot in the garden and likes to lie there, even though it's in the mud
-
Pleased that Ollie is doing so well and has found himself a nice sunny spot ;D
-
Glad to hear Ollie is doing well - my vets wont give me paper copies of blood test results, and when I swapped from the rescues vet back to my own, they said they only give notes when requested (and it was never necessary, cos only Pebbles had been seen, and we didn't have to deal with her nose again).
-
Charlie's new vet gives you paper copies of the blood test results. I have never asked for copies of the records but they have been transferred between vets without difficulties. I think you should be entitled to a copy of the blood test result as you have paid for it
-
I got a copy of Max's recent blood and wee results recently, I asked for a print off and they obliged, no questions asked .... I assumed that would be the norm if you've paid for the tests in the first place?
-
If you paid for the tests Des they cant refuse, cos they are yours and you could take legal action against them. You have the law on your side also under the data protection act, all you have to do its put the request in writing. If they try to charge you a small fee , they again would be in breach as you have already paid for them.
If they do not comply then they are breaking the law and should be reported to the vets regulatory body and also the department for fair trading.
