Can someone help please.
One of my cats keeps s*****g on the carpet. Ive got 2 boys who share the same litter tray and have done since I had them.
When my girlfriend and I are around he uses the tray but given the opportunity he dumps on the carpet in the same place.
This is really p****g me off :(

Do you just have the one litter tray? The general rule of thumb is 1 tray per cat and 1 spare.
The following links may be of help: http://www.wizz-catz.co.uk/soiling.html

the usual rule is one tray per cat (+ a tray).
if he's going in the same place he may be able to smell it from the last time - hav you cleaned thoroughly with something like biological washing powder and alcohol or a formula cleaner?
it could also be behavioural and p'raps he don't like the GF.

yep, like the others said -one tray per cat plus one. It is weird but the dominant cat rarely covers its poos and this can deter other cats from using that tray. So if you have more than one cat, you do need to ensure that the more docile cat has a safe place to poo. Also, make sure you clean places where soiling happens very thoroughly. It is not enough to remove the smell you can smell, it has to be the smell your cat can smell, and they have a rather more sensitive nose than us! Good luck I have been there and it ain't nice!

With regards to cleaning the soiled area DO NOT USE bleach as this may provoke your boys to start weeing to cover the bleach smell.

When cleaning up stray poop it should always be put in the litter tray and offending cat gently placed with it,if you take his paw and gently move it in litter to show him how to cover it.

Why the drastic title, it's not that bad?
I really dont know what to tell you cos I have a 5yo cat that never poos in the tray, he never has and prob never will, just something I have to live with.
BTW, even when I had just the 2 cats he still never done in the tray so I dont know what his problem is?
Maybe your cat is anxious when your not there, maybe leaving a radio or tv on would help?
