Cats can have pork, its only raw pork thats reckoned not to be good for them. Having said that, pork is quite a fatty meat and prob shouldnt be fed all that often as meat on its own, but the actual amount of real pork meat in a pouch of Whiskas isnt likely to be a prob.

I can never understand them putting pork in cat food. My vet said cats shouldn't be given it at all and most definately not to CRF cats as the molecules are too big to pass through cats tiny capillaries. I googled and found other sites saying the same thing.

I bought some this morning and didn't realise  :-[

I bought a mixed some recently and it contained pork but my lot wouldn't eat it so I ended up throwing them away anyway.

Cheers

Really the amount of actual 'pork meat' in Whiskas is going to be negligible, to be honest I wouldn't worry about it.

Its also annoying and misguiding because the box itself says 3 chicken,3 turkey,3 lamb and 3 beef :censored:

Maybe that's why they are 1/2 price but it's still false selling and maybe offensive to some  :evillaugh:

Not at all Gwen, and Mark has made a very valid point. There are a number of religions for whom pork is an unclean meat - opening a box that claims to contain anything other than pork and finding pork is what you have can potentially require the entire house to be cleansed by the relevant religious leader - that is completely unacceptable from my point of view and a point I would be making very vehemently to the manufacturers.

Is pork listed as an ingredient on the box/pouch?  If it is, then I think it's reasonable to expect people to read that.  Of course, I know people dont' read labels, but cat food, esp stuff like whiskas, contains all sorts in addition to the named meats.  If it's not listed then I think you have a valid complaint about them containing pork.

I have no problem feeding pork to my boys - quite a few cat foods, inc bozita I think, contain pork - although I wouldn't feed too much of it.

The Hi Life meat collection also includes a set of pork pouches and those are 60+% meat

Alice & Clapton are both enjoying a turkey one right now  :Luv2:

Same here Gwen - never seen a pork pouch.  Complain to them - you didn't get what you paid for, and they must be aware of the concerns that some cat owners have about their cats eating pork.  I had something similar with Felix - opened a box of what was meant to be 12 meat in jelly pouches, and found that three were in gravy (which none of mine likes), and three were tuna-flavoured - Bertie can't eat fish.  I wrote and complained and got some vouchers  ;D

Cooked pork is fine (and to be honest I know a lot of raw feeders give raw pork too with no problems), but because its a fatty meat its probably not a good idea to feed it too often thats all.

Oh dear....... I've never seen or heard of pork cat food as my 1st cat ate pilchards in tomato sauce for 26 years and Smudge ate tinned tuna for 13 yrs - I say complain and see what they offer you for your inconvenience and make it clear that it's not just a cat problem but as Mark said could be a religious problem especially as the world as gone so crazy with pc at the moment.

Failing that, how about caviar and chips
