Just after posting about Skaggy this morning i went outside to check on him and he wasn't in his house.
I found him behind it on the floor next to a bush - i grabbed a carrier and he crawled into it.
He cried a few times on the way to the vets but by the time i had got there he was quiet.
He allowed me to lift him out onto the vets table,
I ACTUALLY CUDDLED HIM AND KISSED HIM - first time in 10years.
The vet had a quick look at him, his heart rate was very slow and he was very anemic. She couldn't feel any tumours but i knew he had to be set free.
I kissed his face and talked to him as the vet put him to sleep , He passed over quietly and without any stress which i am so so happy about.
The end couldn't have been any better really - he was fine last night, eat a hearty meal and was warm and dry over night. What ever happened happened quickly and he didn't suffer for long.
I have just buried him in the front garden -
^Skaggy Cat^ you chose me and I'm grateful that you did. Although we never had cuddles through out your life you knew how much you were loved and i know that you loved me too. Sleep tight little man xxxx

Oh Furbabystar
My heart goes out to you. What you have done for Skaggy is the biggest act of kindness any of us can ever do for our furbabes. It's obvious Skaggy loved you and trusted you and he knew that when he needed you you would do the right thing for him.
RIP Skaggy ... a special furbabe who was loved and will be greatly missed. Play hard at the bridge baby.

Thank you everyone.
I always knew this day would come but i am feeling so terribly sad tonight.
But what i am grateful for is the way it happened today - i had always worried that i would have to trap him and stress him out but it wasn't like that at all.
And I think he knew bless him, he crawled into the carrier and was so calm at the vets.
Going for an early night - been a :censored: day !!
Love

Aww, I am so sorry you had to let him go, but I am glad it wasn't traumatic for either of you. I had an unhandleable cat last year who I only got to hold and kiss at the vets, bless her. RIP little one, free from pain now, and with a kiss and cuddle from someone who loved you dearly.

Michelle,
Skaggy sounds like he was a pretty cool little guy. It definately sounds like he trusted you to do the right thing, even if it was the most difficult for you.
I hope you feel better soon, and at least get some consolation from the fact that there didn't seem to be much suffering for Skaggy at the end of his life.

R.I.P. Skaggy. I'm so glad he wasn't too stressed out and was able to go quietly. Play hard at the bridge little one.

Thank you for all the messages.
Its funny how much you can love a feral cat that lives in your garden !!
I have been just as upset as when i have lost one of my "indoor babies"
I miss him terribly, he was such a huge part of my life.
Even the postman asked me the other day where the "yucky cat had gone" LOL he said he always had a look inside his house and was greeted with a hiss !! (See who needed a Dog hehe)
