Title: Lumps and bumps
Post by: Corporal Smokey on December 31, 2007, 10:05:36 AM
Hello all. Just after a smidge of advice again! Last night whilst giving Josh an all over fuss, we found a very small lump on the back of his leg. It's no bigger than half a rice crispy and it's softish. It kinda feels like when you get a bad spot or an insect bite and you can feel pressure under your skin.  It's not red or discoloured and it's completely covered in fur. He's not bothered if you touch it. He has absolutely no other symptoms and his coat, eyes and ears are clear. He is a house cat. He's not a fan of the v.e.t so I don't want to stress him out by taking him if I don't need to but obviously I will get him there straight away if I do. Thanks  ;D

Are there other cats in the house? if so they may have had a wee brawl. Otherwise I would just keep an eye on it and see if it changes at all. Any changes - off to the V.E.T!!

Yeah, you may well be right there bc, it's the kind of mark that could be left by an over-playful Cpl. He gets quite bitey although doesn't normally draw blood. We've agreed to keep it under daily observation for the rest of the week and take it from there. If it changes, he'll be off to see uncle Matt at you know where  ;)

As he's not fond of the man in green, I take it he's not had any jabs recently? Sometimes they can cause a bump. Or it's not one of the fatty kind that you can roll between your fingers and doesn't feel 'attached' to anything (no filaments)?

No, his booster was in July. It's hard to tell on the attached thing. I don't think it feels attached to anything but it's really hard to tell as it's on the back of his front leg.

I don't think it's related but it's probably woth mentioning that we had ooodles of tests done on him a couple of years ago as he has a bald patch at the back of each back foot like a callous. The vets found nothing at all wrong and said it was probably an age thing.

He's 13 now which isn't ancient and my gut feeling is that this new lump's some kind of spot or Smokey-inflicted bump.

or, at that age, possibly a lipoma - a fatty cyst ...

Yes, that sounds likely - my Zeta (14 yrs) has one her neck and Jasper (13 yrs) I've just noticed has a couple. My vet said they werent anything to worry about.

I would guess at a cyst or a smokey induced lump

But as bc said any changes and the vet summons  ;D
