DiddyDawn rang me last night - a cat has been found in a house 2 days after his owner died, so he is quite desperate for a home. The person who has found the cat has no idea of the age, just that he is elderly, and pure white. We are hoping to have more details today. Can anyone help?
-
I've got a spare room he could stay in temporarily Desley, but prob too far away? I'm in Wiltshire.
-
Awww, I think I'm too far away to be of much help. :( Please keep us updated. Poor old tyke.
-
Has this little kitty found a home for Xmas?
-
awww the poor thing - fingers crossed for the chappie :(
-
Not yet, sadly.
-
Des,
I know someone that could help.
PM Me and we can sort something out, the lady in question is an older lady who adores cat and is looking for a cat to live with her.
I will talk to her tomorrow if you are interested ?
-
Hello everyone
This lovely cat is currently with me, he is called Pickles and is a complete sweetheart!
When I initially phoned Dawn I only had a description of him which turned out to be not that accurate. He is actually 6 years old, neutered, white with patches of black (one of the patches is heart shaped :Luv:). He was registered with a local vet and his vaccinations are due in May.
He is a lovely friendly cat, full of purrs, chirrups and head butts! I have three cats myself, one of them (Rosie) is blind otherwise I would keep him without hesitation. He is however very welcome to stay here for as long as it takes.
I would like to check any prospective home myself just for my peace of mind - I am unsure how he is with other cats but will introduce him to one of mine when he has settled.
-
Welcome Rosie, thanks for the update - him being younger than we thought is a big help!! Will PM Lisa.
-
Hi Rosie and :welcome: to Purrs
Thanks so much for the update on this kitty. With regards to the introduction the following site has loads of useful tips on how to it http://wizz-catz.co.uk/introducing.html
Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and big thanks for taking this little lad in for the festive period (or longer if he settles in well ;) )
-
The lady i am hoping can give them a home is an eldery lady with a real love for cats the age is unimportant to be honest although i suppose that is a help generally ....
I will talk to her tomorrow ...Fingers crossed ..she does kind of take in all the local needy cats at the moment ( strays and ferals) but think that she would love a permanent cat all of her own ...
Does the cat go outside or is it an indoor cat ?
-
From what I can gather, Pickles had access to outdoors and for some reason was also fed outside. He has however made full use of my radiators and certainly has been very settled inside since being here!
He is very talkative and affectionate - have taken some pics on my phone but not too sure how to download them. He loves company and is very happily sitting next to me on the bed whilst I am typing this.
He has previously lived as an only cat so unsure how he he would react to others.

Fingers crossed

I have taken Pickles to the vets this afternoon for a check over - his teeth are in quite a bad way and he is booked in for a dental next Thursday. Some teeth will have to be removed, possibly including one of his canines. I think I will have him tested for FIV too (not the in house test). He is otherwise fine apart from this and behaved impeccably, bless him. :Luv:

Hope things go well.........please keep us updated. x j
-
Oh bless i hope that he is going to be okay ..I have tried to get hold of the lady but still no joy ...
Grrrrr will try again tonight :)
-
Aww, fingers crossed for him.
-
Any news on how the dental went sorry have not been about the internet has not been working for me for the last week :( ..
I have been told that the eldery lady is still looking for a cat, she is away on holiday at sons and will be back this week sometime ...will keep trying her !
-
Pickles has had his dental today - he has had four teeth out, a scale and polish and come home with 5 days worth of antibiotics. His bloods have gone off for FIV/FeLV testing and should have the results some time next week. He is a little (not so little actually) sweetheart and a real character. :Luv:
Such a good boy. :Luv:
Sarah
-
Lets hope the results are negative, he sounds wonderful ;D
-
Awww bless his little paws i will hopefully see her this weekend she knows the lady at Biggleswade CP can get a hoe visit done there!!
-
I am glad he is fine after his dental, and fingers crossed we can find a home for him soon.
-
Ideally I would be looking for a home for Pickles within reasonable travelling distance of North Wales simply in case any prospective home did not work out - it would be easy to bring him back here. :Luv:
He has had a big change in his life (losing his owner and holidaying in my back bedroom!) and I would like to minimise stress on him as much as possible.

Results of FIV/FeLV tests back today and they are negative :Luv:

great news ;D

Excellent news
-
No interest in this lovely cat as yet :(
-
I live practically in North Wales but sadly I'm not in the position to take another cat right now. Which is a shame! There is a Cats Protection in Wrexham (if you're close to there) who might be able to help you find a home?
Hope someone can take Pickles on soon! xxx
-
All local rescues are full - Pickles' owner sadly assumed that he would be easy to rehome when she passed away. Some of her relatives spent an afternoon ringing around without success which is why I offered to take him temporarily.
Thank you for your good wishes though, will keep everything crossed!

Sadly there has been no real interest at all in Pickles :( He will need an experienced owner as he will turn and nip if not getting quite enough attention (i.e. 110%!!!). He is a lovely cat though, a real character and will blossom with a sensible owner! He cannot be homed with children.
I think he would be fine with another placid cat - he is kept apart from mine but has seen them briefly and showed no reaction.
I would be so happy to see him settled. :Luv:
Sarah
-
Aww bless him he sounds lovely :)
I have everything crossed that Pickles finds a loving forever home soon xx
Please give him a gentle headrub from me xxx
-
No interest as yet in the lovely Pickles - if anyone could cross post his details I would be grateful. . :Luv:

Bumping Pickles up :Luv:

It is becoming more and more difficult to keep Pickles apart from my cats :(
Bless him, the only enquiry about him was from a lady who asked whether he was destructive in the house as she had new carpets down and her husband was not actually keen on cats in any event. :(
I have advertised him locally in veterinary surgeries but any ideas would be very welcome.
He is a real character but as I have said will nip when he sees fit. He is not at all nasty just a bit...bossy I suppose!!

Any chance of pics of this special boy .... Pics always help to drum up interest. ;)
-
I have plenty of pics of him on my phone but for some reason my elderly pc will not allow me to download them - would be happy to send them as a multimedia pic if anyone were interested.
His posters have his pic on - I am just many years behind technology wise! :shy:

Still no interest in this babe :(

Still no interest in the lovely Pickles :(

Do Pickles hunt at all? My Mum lives in North Wales and may be after a cat to keep her company.. she's terrified of mice though so was looking for an indoor cat really, but would probalby be with an outdoor boy as long as they didn't bring live presents home!
-
My own three cats are indoor only and Pickles has been kept inside since being with me. He is fond of his home comforts and has shown no sign of missing the great outdoors! :Luv:
-
Just to update this - Pickles was rehomed for all of one night. He was fine but the resident (cat friendly) dog was for some reason terrified of him and it was decided it was better all round for him to return to me.
Unfortunately there is no love lost between my own cats and Pickles and it is becoming more difficult keeping them apart. My children are very attached to him (my youngest - aged 6 - made him a Valentine card headed "to lovely Picks" :Luv:) and he is really is a sweetheart - he is however a very confident cat and would prefer a household where he could have plenty of attention. He is better with female cats than males and I am going to be massively unpopular in the eyes of my children when his forever home does come along!!
Dawn I have PM'd you ;D
-
Thanks, I'll put him on the Rehoming Page later for you ......hopefully he'll have a better chance of getting a home. Can you send me another pic to my email please, I know I've got the others somewhere but it would be a case of looking for them  I'll speak to you soon anyway.....hopefully with good news.
-
Thanks Dawn - I am in work at the mo so have sent the pic saved on here (my cats are my screesaver of course! :Luv:)
Thanks again - am too scared to tell the children though!!!
-
No problem Sarah, I'm sure we'll be able to sort something out for him. Just break it to the kids gently and explain it's best for him.......I know I hate it when mine get attached, I get called all sorts when I rehome them :censored: I'll catch you soon anyway and I'll let you know if anyone enquires about him, xxx
-
I agree with Dawn but also you have to start preparing them now cos otherwise it will be an unexpected shock and cause heartbreak.
-
I agree with Dawn
Course you agree with me Gill, I am always right you know :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
-
My children have always known that he is only with us until he finds a new home - and that he will be happier where he can have more attention and not compete with three other cats for fuss. My youngest son does say I have to check that Pickles is happy wherever he goes to and I have promised that of course I will - hopefully any new owner will not mind staying in touch :)
-
Any of the cats that are rehomed via me, the condition is they don't mind staying in touch plus the home check etc will be done by you anyway so I'm sure you'll be able to sort something out :)
-
awwww poor pickles
id have him if i was nearer hun
what is the main reason u cant keep him is it ur other cats wont accept him or is it coz one of ur cats r blind u said ?
-
Well he only ever came on a temporary basis after his owner died - I am a useless fosterer though and get very attached! Pickles is such a good boy but would be too much for my cats if he stayed permanently. I have two female cats and a male Persian (all neutered). Rosie is blind due to untreated cat flu in her previous home and I feel it would be unfair for her to have to share her home with another puss. Darcy (Persian) is a very very placid cat but is a little worried about Pickles' presence. (They are kept apart).
I so wish his owner had made provision for Pickles in her Will as she clearly loved him - sadly she just assumed that he would be easy to rehome. :(
-
awwwww i see what u mean and u have to always put ya own cats needs first i know , id b a useless fosterer too , i get very attached after a very short while for example when i found max 2mths ago after about 12hrs of him being here i was already growing very fond fo him and i knew id b heartbroken if anyone had come forward to claim him ,thankfully they didnt and now he is all mineeeeeeeeeeee ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Pickles and I are doing a home check tonight :) so please keep fingers crossed!!
-
Excellent news, hope it's the right home for him. Keep us posted...
-
Pickles' prospective new owners failed their home check so he is still looking!!!
Hope your ears have recovered Dawn
-
Would also mention that Pickles will only be rehomed as an indoor cat or, if he is to have outside access, well away from main roads.
-
Pickles' prospective new owners failed their home check so he is still looking
What a shame, still you have to be sure that the little ones are getting the best possible chance, don't you? I would rather keep a cat longer and be sure than home and always have a gut feeling that something is not right.
-
Hope your ears have recovered Dawn
 No worries Sarah, I'd had one of those days as well  I'm sure Pickles will find his loving home eventually, the right person is out there somewhere.
-
They had lost - and I quote - "four or five" (they were not sure) cats to the road outside. I soon realised that the location was enough for it to be a no but I went in to be polite.
Their 16 old cat (which they had told me about) had also been previously hit by a car (not mentioned) which had "taught" her to stay away from the road.
It was all downhill from there really - it didn't help that her (adult) son was stroking Pickles then shaking his hands in a horrified manner to remove the hairs. :evillaugh:
The worrying part is that she sounded absolutely fine on the phone, with no mention of any of the above. :scared:
-
The worrying part is that she sounded absolutely fine on the phone, with no mention of any of the above.
That is one of the reasons why a home visit is so essential, isn't it?
-
Definitely - and I have to do the home checks myself (or risk never sleeping again!!)
-
Pickles has been with me almost four months now and is still looking :(
Is there anyone out there with a good sturdy pair of knees (he takes flying leaps onto your lap - and he is no feather :evillaugh:), who is happy to be coated more or less constantly with white Pickles' fuzz whilst listening to his extensive range of chirps, squeaks and yodelly miaows - even while he eats?!
He is such a lovely cat with a huge purrrsonality :Luv:
-
I can't believe he has been waiting for so long!!
-
Hope he finds a great home soon
-
I had 99% decided that Pickles was going to stay with me - I have been using Feliway diffusers which have calmed things greatly with my cats. I had him microchipped and have let him into the garden as he has been used to 24/7 access to outside. He has been fine with this and is happy to potter about whilst I am there.
His behaviour however is a little unpredictable (he has never bitten but will go to nip) and I think long term he would be better in a adult only home. I have two children and he head butts them and is fine most of the time. They know not to approach him and all contact is on his terms. I have to be honest though and say that I am wary of him with them.
Can anyone help? :( In all other respects he is lovely and a huge character but is very used to having his own way :)
Sarah
