Title: The first resident to use my hospital cage
Post by: Dawn (DiddyDawn) on December 12, 2007, 11:12:48 AM
This gorgeous little boy took up residence in the garden that Lucas came from.  He's been around for the last few months but the guy bought a couple of kennels the other day for the ferals that frequent his garden.  When he looked out, this cheeky chappie had decided to lay claim to one and has been there ever since both night and day.  The problem with this is all the other cats have now disappeared so they are obviously frightened of him or he's been marking his territory  :sneaky:  We managed to catch him this morning, and I'm hoping now all the other residents will return.  He isn't a feral but has a huge pair of  :censored: on him so he is booked in on Friday to have them removed.  He is a little nervous but has already had something to eat and has let me give him a little stroke  :Luv:  :Luv:  Later on I'm going to transfer him to a dog cage as I don't think he'll be a problem getting hold of.

He's nameless at the moment so if anyone can think of a name for him   I've just checked his neck and all his Lymph Nodes are up, I think I'm going to have to book him into my other vets to get him bloodtested  :scared:

He's too nice to be living rough, he's not a feral so he deserves to have a nice home.  I have a horrible feeling though he is FIV but he's now booked in Sean's vets tomorrow so the test can be sent off to Glasgow.

I don't think he's very old but older than he looks looking at his teeth, he is very handsome bless him and has wolfed his way through a full bowl of food so obviously isn't too stressed by everything  :Luv:  :Luv:  Yes, I'm sure even if FIV he'll get a home, I'm a bit gutted about Dawn's room being taken up again on Friday now, this little man would have been the perfect candidate but never mind, the other little lady needs it just as much   :)

:naughty:  I was trying to think of a nice way of putting it  :evillaugh:  It always surprises me when you check a "nice" cat and it still has it's nuts, I know it shouldn't but I can't believe anyone would leave a cat in tact unless it was for breeding purposes   He'll be fine anyway, I've given Sean specific instructions to be gentle with him  ;)  I know he's nervous bless him but it's for the best and it will be over and done with tomorrow, they'll be no more sleeping out in the cold and no more competing for food, and he'll have a nice warm bed in time for xmas  :Luv:

The vet nurse did his test as an inhouse by mistake and it did come back as FIV positive which doesn't surprise me in the least.  The test will be getting sent off to Glasgow anyway to confirm but I think it will still be positive.

Biscuit is a fab name  :Luv:  :Luv:  I've been having a long think this evening and I'm thinking Biscuit may be the perfect next candidate to go to Dawn's.  I'm picking Magnolia up tomorrow and she was going to go to Dawn's but I think Biscuit will be the better choice.  At Dawn's he can have his own room and he's got less chance of picking up anything which is obviously going to be a worry if he is positive.  I've not had a chat to Dawn yet as she's exhausted after her flight so I'll mention it when I speak to her tomorrow afternoon  :scared:

I'm sure she will Pav, he is extremely loveable and absolutely gorgeous  :Luv:  :Luv:  Not sure of his age, the vet nurse said she's seen so many cats today and can't remember apart from him having a huge pair of goolies  :evillaugh:  He's had a full check over anyway, has been wormed, deflead and microchipped, his ears were manky so they've been cleaned, he's also a little bit snotty so has been given a course of antibiotics and other than that, he should be fine.

My decision has been made eh? I just had a look at the first post and wondered if we might get him  :evillaugh: he is beautiful! It will be nice to have a new cat from the same place as Lucas  :Luv:
I like Biscuit - we can have Cheese and Biscuits  unless you want to call him Pickle? or Crackers? (Christmassy!  :evillaugh: )

I need to sort out Lucas' room still, its a bit  even after a scrubbing! - Where can I rent a carpet cleaner??? (Clueless!  ;) )

I have had my 12 hours sleep catch up now Dawn so will ring you soon  ;)

Hi Dawn, glad you're back, hope you had a lovely time.

The best carpet cleaner I have used is the Rug Doctor, can normally hire them from Morrisons, DIY stores etc.  For one room you should only need it for a few hours and only a small bottle of the carpet detergent.  They also do an odour remover which you can use as well.

I used this in the study after Tia had her babies on the carpet, and then reared them on the floor for 8 weeks.

Post by: Dawn (DiddyDawn) on December 15, 2007, 23:36:21 PM
I'm feeling a little better thank you but have been od'ing on Paracetamol and whisky coffees which taste disgusting but seem to have helped.  I stopped in bed most of the day, got up this morning to feed the rabble and then had a lazy day.  I was running a temp earlier and the cats made it worse by all snuggling up to me, they all seem to think when I'm in bed, it's their turn for cuddles  :sneaky:

Biscuit is absolutely gorgeous, I'm in love with this little man, he is such a fuss pot and purrs for England  :Luv:  :Luv:  I find it such a shame that all the nice cats seem to be the FIV one's, I think he's probably caught it by being attacked and not the other way round, he doesn't seem to have a nasty bone in his body bless him.  He seems a little nervous and initially he reacts by trying to pull away from you but once he knows he's getting a fuss, he'll come forward and start headbutting.  I'm sure Dawn and Phil will fall head over heels for him and I was telling the vet last night where he was going and she was over the moon for him  :)

There's been a little change of plan regarding Biscuit  :shify:  Schmew has kindly offered to foster him until he finds a forever home   This is fab news as once he's settled down, he will be able to integrate with Schmew's other cats which are also FIV positive.  Dawn and Phil are still willing to take the gorgeous Magnolia and when I drop her off, Dawn and I will be taking Biscuit to his new Foster mummy  :Luv:  :Luv:

Magnolia the, er, black cat   :evillaugh:

The Christmas prawns are ready and waiting. Oh and the turkey, seeing as it feeds 5-7 and there is only me and Phil and cats - Turkey sandwich/stew/soup anyone??

Desley, thanks so much for the offer  I wonder if its worth us looking into buying one ourselves? I suppose we haven't seen our last poorly kitty - and after the lovely big runny poo Doc left us on the floor today I think the whole house might benefit from a once over  :evillaugh:

Lesley, I meant to PM you about the carpet cleaner because I remember you saying you have rented them before - I was in Tesco, ASDA and Morrisons on Friday and Morrisons was the one I forgot to look in  :innocent: I will have a look into it and also price up a carpet cleaner  ;D

Might have to take Biscuit back in later for a check up but just waiting for the vets to phone.  Looking at where he had his op, it looks like the insides have popped out if you know what I mean.  Some vets just leave the sack which I think they have done but there's no fur on the actual sac bit and I've not noticed this on any of my others when they've had the chop.  I can also see the incision so I just want to make sure everything is okay with him.  I had to take a couple of pics which was quite difficult as you can imagine and Biscuit wasn't too impressed  :evillaugh:
Title: Re: The first resident to use my hospital cage
Post by: madkittyrescue on December 19, 2007, 15:03:15 PM
That can happen if the incision is a little too big Dawn.  I'd get him straight back in as it shouldn't be left like that.

Sometimes it can pop back in itself but he'll need to get a antibiotics jab... may need to essentially re-do the neuter.  My Aston went through the same thing and they had to stitch up the sacks to cover it as they wouldn't pop back itself.  He had a terrible time of it bless him and I wonder now if that is one of the reasons that we had problems with his weight post neuter.

Let us know how you get on. xx

I've just heard back from the vets and he has to go back in bless him.   Sean's on later so he'll be taking a look at him, it was pretty difficult trying to explain to the Receptionists so I sent piccies as well which was a help  :evillaugh:  It's not actually the insides that have come out but the actual sac out of the fur, they just look like wrinkled nuts but furless  :evillaugh:

The vet who looked at the pic was Trevor and he said to take him in which I did  :sneaky:  When I got there he was nearly wetting himself laughing about the email I'd sent and said they've never had an email with a piccie of cats nuts before and loved the title  :naughty: Sean took a look and he said he is fine but he too thought it was hilarious  :slap:  He said the reason Biscuit were plucked, and his nuts were like they were is because he was huge and that's why I've not seen them like that before because all the others I've taken in have been quite young so it's just a case of a snip     He's looked at Biscuits teeth again for me and he think's he's about 10 years old but he said he is gorgeous and he reminds him of Jimmy, he said you don't normally get cats like that and if I weren't doing what I was doing, he would have been worth keeping  :Luv:  :Luv:  So anyway, he is fine but I will probably be the laughing stock of the surgery for the next few weeks and Sean and Trevor will probably end up with a clip around the earhole   :evillaugh:

Biscuit is GORGEOUS! I really fell for this little man. Anyone who meets him will fall in love - his pictures really don't do him justice do they? He is such a cheeky lovable character and he has definitely fallen on his paws with his new foster meowmy where he will be spoilt rotten

Bless him and all his washing... he must really want to impress   :play: lovely to meet the kittens too, and the lovely doggies!  ;D

Feel free to pop round here any time with the carrier and meet the clan too

Well Biscuit has made himself right at home - he moves between the food bowl, litter tray and the settee! I think he is becoming surgically attached to it! Nice to see him happy and warm and comfortable though, he must have been so cold outside bless him.

Ooo, he is a babe!

He's eating well and seems very settled. He's had to spend a few days in a cage while I've had my folks staying but bless him he's not been bothered. He's been out and about and met the two residents, Buffy aint too impressed by him and has given him a clout but generally Biscuit and Bobby seem to be ok - only one incident where Biscuit decided to have a go. The dogs broke upstairs one night while I was out and introduced themselves to him, but he didn't seem too traumatised!

I lurve him.  :Luv:

He is such a snuggler and likes to headbutt you and roll upside down for tummy tickles. How he has coped living rough with no one to love him I just don't know, he really likes a fuss!

Wil try and get some pics and see if someone kind will post them for me!

  I am glad I got the right person as I did not want to wrongly accuse  :naughty:

Isn't cat milk just long life milk with reduced lactose anyway?  :shify:

Biscuit update - what a darling! He's so snuggly and loveable, and likes a good chat  :Luv:

DD I have taken some photos (he has ominously green eyes) and will email them tomorrow.

He's still fine, but although his poos had got to almost normal, they are loose again last night and today and he has just done the runniest smelliest poo while I've been in here, ee yuk! So I#'d best go and clean up the litter tray, and then see if I can still stomach my tea

Sorry about lack of pics DD - battery in camera died and not got round to recharging it yet. Mind you, you've had enough on your plate with everything

Biscuit is soooo attached to his settee, he doesn't want to leave the spare room! I am opening the door when I get home, the others are coming in for a nosey (Charlie dog to eat his food more than anything!) and Biscuit just sits in his bed watching them all! He even accepted a lick from Charlie tonight without taking his eyes out (he's made no attempt to swipe them so far, he did have a bit of a growl so Reba is hiding from him but that aint doing anyone any harm!). Oh, and for the last few days his poos have been nice and solid (fingers crossed it continues...)

Well he waltzed his way upstairs last night and plonked himself on my bed! My two are not amused by him, but it'll settle. He's currently taking up the ginger dogs spot on the settee - he doesn't half know how to make himself at home!

Vet says he has an arthritic shoulder, so he's had a long acting antibiotic jab (he's been limping quite badly). The jab should also help his skin - he's got patches on shoulder joint where he's been overgrooming, I'm assuming it's linked to pain so we'll see.

Blocked anal glands can cause over grooming so it may be worth getting these checked out.  Poor little babe, I hope the injection helps to sort his limp out  :ahh:
