What great news that you have had a sighting.

Can't give any advice on trapping I'm afraid but I am praying for you and with any luck Milly will be home soon.

I'm not an experienced trapper but in your situation I wouldn't be able to sleep anyway, so you may as well keep checking on it if it's not too far to go!

Wow, very excited for you.  :luck: :yesss:

Hi I have trapped a stray before,  I sat in my car for about 5 hours for 3 nights, what i suggest is, if you can sit and wait for a few hours on a night, you may be able to catch her. If you don't check the trap often something else might get caught and be in there all night. It will also alert nearby cats to be wary of it, thats if another cat gets caught and is wailing it's head off all night. Just a suggestion. Good luck in catching her.

What good news, was she seen nearby your house or back at the old house?  I am not a trapper let alone an experienced one but I would check it a few times throughout the night, you (or hubby :evillaugh:) might be a bit tired the next day but it will be worth it to get Milly back safe and sound.

Still got everything crossed for you, come on Milly - come back home!

There has been a sighting and a trap has been set.
My question to any experienced trappers out there, how often should the trap be checked?
Hubby reckons he is in charge of the trap and intends to check it first thing in the morning.  I thought that was a bit too long if a creature was caught in there although it is undercover it would still get cold.
Any ideas or thoughts?

Thank you to everybody for the continuing support and positive vibes, nothing to report yet.

Went to the local cat sanctuary yesterday and left a picture of her.
I will report back if there is any news.

Your encouragement is much appreciated believe me and the stories of cats going walk about and then making their way home or being found is encouraging as well.

Thanks,

I know that Sam's Rossi managed to escape from her carrier in a completely new area, Sam did all the things on her checklist and she was eventually found a few streets away by someone who received a flyer I think.  I'm fairly sure Rossi had gone straight from a home environment rather than a rescue so please don't give up hope of finding her nearby.  Do you think the local radio station might put an appeal out?

Will be thinking of you.

You're right Helen, Rossi had come from a home environment and she had NEVER been outdoors when she escaped and she was also only 6 months old.  But after plastering posters everywhere and pushig flyers through every letter box  (I live in a built up area with terraced houses) someone found her and recongnised her from a flyer they had received!!!!  I made sure every house on my street and three streets either side on both sides of the main round  received a flyer.

Oh no, I really hoped you may have found her by now. If she is trying to make her way back to her old house then perhaps you could put some posters up in that area, if people were used to seeing her out and about beforehand they wouldn't think anything of seeing her again, they may not know that she had gone to a new home.

Oh dear so sorry Milly is still not home.  As you say there is a strong chance she is making her way back to her former home.  What sort of area is it that you live ... is it rural or urban?

All I can suggest is make sure ALL the vets in the area are aware she is missing.  Also make sure there are posters up in the area where she used to live as well as in your area if possible.  At least she is chipped so if she is taken to a vet they will be able to reunite the two of you.  I'm sure if the weather on the IoM is anything like here at the moment she will have found somewhere sheltered to go to ground.

Keeping everything crossed for a safe return.

Hi everybody,

No luck yet.  I do not believe that Milly is in the area, I rather think that she is trying to find her way back to her former home.  Still looking, searching and hoping.  Don't know what else to do.  I have turned the poor girl into a feral cat.  She must be getting hungry by now, I sincerely hope that she can find some food and shelter somewhere.  She will have been in our home one day short of three weeks.

I think in hindsight I might have been a bit naive, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.  Does anybody have any experience of adopting a full grown cat from a home environment and re-establishing it in another home environment?  I have adopted kittens from a home environment and adult cats from a rescue centre but never from a home environment before.

Thank you all for your positive thoughts - it means a great deal to me.

Yvonne the best thing you can do now is to just keep positive thoughts and wait for day light to go back out.  Milly looks like a smart girl, and as you've done as much as you can to get her scent out to her to know to come home you can only wait for someone to call you or for her to come home.

Sleep well tonight, rest up so that you have all your strength for tomorrow.

I am so sorry that she has disappeered but she sounds a bit like Sasa and obviously desperately wanted to go out. I hope that she is still in the area and not trying that trek to her old home.

I cant remember why she left her old home to come to you but I do hope she comes back safe.

Is there anywhere you can leave some bisciuts and a bowl of water for her that maybe dry  and safe and if its dry maybe a box with some bedding in.

Sasa stayed very close but I just couldnt see her and she came back when she was ready as long as I was out of sight.

Where you able to handle Milly and stroke her? If not the best way is maybe to not go out calling cos she may be scared of you. However if you were getting on OK then try late at night while it is quiet.

Come home Milly

Hi Sonya,

No, of course you did not offend me.  I am just very grateful to everybody for sending me positive thoughts and best wishes.
The previous owner is actually related to my daughters best friend, her mother had a conversation with her this morning and so she is well aware of the situation.
It has been a very long and stressful day.
I think I was actually a bit short in my post to you but I did not mean to be it was not intended.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your positive thoughts.  I hope she comes home but which home?  My thoughts are now that Milly is trying to find her way back to her former home which is five miles away.  I am now at my wits end.  I have been up since 5 am, pounded the neighbourhood, put flyers through the letter box and thrown the contents of the litter box on the garden.

I am hoping that Milly just wanted some fresh air rather than to escape.  But the longer it goes on...............
