My Linx is 15 lbs because of the steroids he is on inhaled meds for his asthma and I would love to get him down to 13.  I can not separate the food so I have them all on lite dry and wet food. The other 3 are of somewhat normal weight and do not seem to be bothered by the lite food. So I hope it will help Linxy to loose.  I can so relate hugs and purrs to you and the furrys.

its plain and simple...regardless of her build and being neutered and activity...she's comsuming much more kcals and fat than she needs.

hopefully you'll be told at the obesity clinic how much she should be and what she has to lose and they can get your started on a prescription diet food such has hills r/d or the likes along with all the info you'll need to try and change her habits.

when we first got molly she was an averege sort of size ,she wasnt spayed even thou she was 7 at the time  :-:
anyway we got her spayed 2 weeks after she came to live with us and since the spay she put on more n more weight ,but shes not a very active cat at all so its not really suprising i guess.

The problem is she sneaks up into the kitchen and gets willows food from the kitchen table. Yesterday, I caught her eating clapton's renal food that he wouldn't eat. There isn't really anywhere I can put it where kylie can't get it without keeping a door closed which isn't fair on her and clapton - they need to have a roam around. If Ikeep the kitchen door closed, it means willow is shut in one room which isn't fair on her.

mark, is there any way you can do some kind of set up so that only Willow can get at the food? Mine are grazers, but I had to take that away from them when Tom was here to get him to lose weight, I just used to give them extra rations when he was in a different room!!
Please spay your cat

Kylie is 7kg but she is a big girl anyway. Nevertheless, I am constantly trying to keep her weight down. It's difficult though as she goes around scrounging food from the other cats plates. I would like to keep their food away from her but willow is tiny (around 3.5kg) and a grazer so I have to make sure she has food available all the time.

As Gill says, the weight depends on teh cat - Molly is only 3.5 and a nice weight, so she would look quite fat at 4kg, yet Tom was looking a bit on the thin side at 6kg. It is quite hard to get cats to lose weight, but very important to make sure they dont carry too much extra weight as there are a lot of health implications if they are. Good luck, my foster is going up for her first weigh in tonight, I dont like calling it the obesity clinic though!!

Weight is determined by breed and size of cats.

My misa is a very big moggy the size of a young Maine Coon and he was 6.5 kg last summer.

My birmans are much smaller and I think Franta was about 4-4.5 kg and just right.

Certainly your vets will be able to tell you what is right for your cat

Does Molly play as much as your other cats, though? It's possible the others burn off more energy than her, which is why she's bigger.
