It is not looking good - why would anybody pay £100, there is no mention of any pedigree?
I hope that she finds a good home and I hope that he/she will see sense and just offer that poor lady to a kind and loving home.

Iv had a response saying thank you for the numbers, i think they will phone them or i would have been ignored/swore at!

Hels, email them, i think its a genuine ad and they may pass on the money. Its worth a try.

Hels, did you get in touch with the current owner?  What did they say?
This is a horrible situation, I'm too far away to do anything practical but would be willing to help out financially.

Just thought (yes it hurt)

The person says kittens due in 2months - well that would make her about 5 days pregnant !!!
Does she know for deff that she is pregnant ?? (either way the cat needs to get out of there)
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: Michelle (furbabystar) on January 11, 2007, 11:04:42 AM
I have email the person and got this back

She has been vet checked and the vet said she is pretty sure that she is pregnant. If you still not sure, i have the document saying she has been checked. So if you still want her then please hurry becuase she's started looking for a nest place.

Doesnt sound right to me !!!!

Furbabystar can you not get in touch with Hels she said she would take her between you you could get that poor little mite to safety

Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: Roz on January 11, 2007, 11:42:31 AM
This cat looks more than five days pregnant to me...looking at the first photo.  Either that or she is just a little overweight.

I agree with everyone else...what a cheek asking for £100 for a non-ped moggie.  It's not like there is a shortage or anything.........and pregnant as well!!!   I only wish there was a shortage but there are not enough homes for all the other little babes walking about the streets.

There is something not quite right about this ad but as always in such cases, it is the animal that suffers if no notice is taken.  And if a dubious person is in charge of a defenceless animal then the animal's safety and well-being should be uppermost.

I think that we should take her up on her offer of checking out the vet report though.  Perhaps she could leave us her vet's telephone number and we could talk to one of the staff there.  This is what I have done in the past when paying for veterinary care for others. I've often been warned that I am naiive when responding to these people's pleas for help but it has always worked out fine in the end.

I am willing to contribute towards the £100 too.  Normally I would pay the whole lot but it is a particularly difficult time for me at the moment because of a number of personal issues, but I am happy to help.

Sadly, I have no room for any more cats at the moment....I have some personality difficulties with my present mob....but if Hels can help with the fostering, I can help financially.

Hope we can sort this little one out.

Best wishes,

Roz

Has anyone read the thread "adopting a cat from Cameroon"? Everyone seemed to think it was a scam and that was also from GUMTREE. Does anyone really know what's going on? Has anyone been in contact with a person about this cat??
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: Linda (Bengalbabe) on January 11, 2007, 13:29:24 PM
Yes, I am willing to either pay the full amount plus help with her vet, food  bills etc or if others want to help then to contribute accordingly.

I e-mailed hels yesterday to let her know this and to ask whether or not she has been in touch but not on my puter at home today so not sure if she has got back to me or not.

Well i emailed her but no reply ...guess she didnt like what i said? Anyway i dont think anyone should part with any money as she dosnt want the cat then she should only consdier the welfare & a responsible home for her them selling.     Checking out with the vet etc etc is very good idea

Edited to say a small donation but not what she is asking for....as to me its only encouraging her to repeat this
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: Linda (Bengalbabe) on January 11, 2007, 13:41:16 PM
Agree in principle MBII however we need to prioritise the welfare of this beautiful girl as someone who wants to part with her under the circumstances described is clearly not putting her first.
I know, it may be encouraging this type of behaviour but what are the options really?

So is it a scam then? Has anyone read the other topic I mentioned? Where is the cat supposed to be coming from?

Yes, I am willing to either pay the full amount plus help with her vet, food  bills etc or if others want to help then to contribute accordingly.

This is what people have to be worried about, if they don't know the whole story and are so willing to give there money away--

BE CAREFULL.

In reply to your last post Linda, they are obviously trying to pull on the heart strings of people that they know there going to scam some money out of. The seller has not said this cat is going to come to any harm if no one buy's her, and you arnt guaranteed to get the cat after handing you money over anyway.
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: hels on January 11, 2007, 13:51:32 PM
sorry for not replying before, i cant always get online. I could foster this poor girl but as of tomorrow I'm unemployed and could no way finance it at all. I do help my local CP so if I can actually get her, or someone else can get her, then I could get her on the CP's books which means everything will be paid for via them.

Its not ideal as the only spare room I have is my bathroom but i dont mind
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: hels on January 11, 2007, 13:52:41 PM
i'm in cambridgeshire and I could pick her up if she is in london or that way
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: ccmacey on January 11, 2007, 13:56:04 PM
Cant the cat go to the CP anyway? If the owner really doesn't want her that much and is trying to get rid, why is she delaying the process by trying to sell her for a ridiculous amount of money??? :-:
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: hels on January 11, 2007, 13:58:15 PM
well thats kinda what i'm thinking and I've just realised that I've forgotten that my cat connie has flu, she only got it this week so I dont know if it'd be the best idea for me to take the pregnant cat right now...

depends what other people think... there must be a rescue nearer to her than me anyway especially since moving a pregnant cat probably isnt the best idea
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: Linda (Bengalbabe) on January 11, 2007, 14:01:34 PM
Take on board your point CCMacey, however whilst I am emotional and my heart strings are tugged, I'm nobodys fool.  I do however appreciate the point you raise  re verification that the poor baby in the pics is indeed there and can be handed over.  Seller may not have said the girl is going to come to harm but as far as I'm concerned she does not deserve to have her (sorry, I know its emotional/may sound hard but its how I feel).

If we can find a rescue to take this poor baby and persuade the seller to part with her in this way then great.  If not my offer of financial support to someone who can take her in still stands.
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: ccmacey on January 11, 2007, 14:10:05 PM
So do you think they just trying to scam money out of people or what??

No that would be out of the question to take a pregnant queen at the moment if your cat has flu.

How did you forget the cat has flu when they need constant attention??

Im sorry Linda, I now understand what your saying. I thought you were offering to pay the £100 for this cat. I too get very emotinal about these situations but we cant help everyone. Hopefully someone from here can get this cat off the owner and into a rescue FREE OF CHARGE and take it from there. That would all turn out good only if this heartfelt plea IS NOT A SCAM.

Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?

What on earth are you having a dig at me for? surely you have something better to do

i forgot my cat had cat flu because I was caught up in trying to help this pregnant cat, I’m sorry for any inconvenience this might have personally caused you (and I'm sure it must have otherwise there would have been no need to be so pointlessly stupid about it). I've not been about here much but evidently you've instated yourself as a cat expert

Not that it really matters but my cat doesn't require constant attention and that’s a bit of a daft thing to say.
Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?
Post by: Roz on January 11, 2007, 14:18:59 PM
Hi everyone,

Yes, I think that if a rescue could be found to take her, we could contribute our pledged money to the rescue instead.  That said, I realise that this is not likely to happen...but I am wondering whether this young girl is so naiive that she thinks there is a shortage of cats out there and the imminent arrival of kittens means that whoever takes on this little babe, will be in profit. Even pedigree breeders do not make a profit out of rearing kittens unless they have loads of queens and studs! Most do it for the love and joy of the breed.

I will watch the thread and am here to do whatever.

Good luck

Best wishes,

Roz

I'm not having a dig at you, just talking of my past experiences with my own cats. I had 3 cats that had flu, and I was at the vet's with them every day for a week. The constant attention that I was talking about was making sure they were eating, them not getting dehydrated and also taking them to the litter tray as they were unable to do this themselves. It was nothing personal.

Sorry been in bed for a couple of hours (bad back)

I have not heard back from the owner re my email about speaking to her vet !!!!

Title: Re: Pregnant Cat....Can Anyone Help?

The seller must expect someone to go pick the cat up (if this is genuine, which is starting to turn out a bit weired I think) how else do they expect you to get the cat? Through the post???

Oh and about that nasty post Hels, I'm not stupid or daft, just pointing out what I went through with my own. And I come on here so I can care and understand my cat's better, not to give out advice and down trod on people and the last time I looked I didn't have any cat qualifications so don't know where you got that from.

Sorry ladies had to get that out of me system. To me this is now resolved and I'm leaving it there.

Just seen this one too !!! :censored:

BUT
I rang the women and we had a really good chat, She isnt a bad person or an unloving owner,  just uneducated when it comes to cats!
I told her all about FIV and FeLV, we chatted about the probelms pregnancy can bring and reassured her that it wont hurt her cat to be spayed (which was her main worry)
She actually thanked me for ringing !! (i was expecting to be told to F off lol)
So fingers crossed this little one wont be having a litter !!!

I can throw in a bit of money to the pot as well if needed.  Haven't been able to have a cat for a while - living with mum who doesn't want one is a problem!  However, she is coming round to the idea so maybe this year we will get one.  The problem is our last cat was so perfect (quiet, calm, not overly friendly to strangers, didn't jump on counters even if you left meat out etc) that it will be hard to replace him!   ;D.

let me clear up the confusion (sorry my fault)

There are 2 adds
THE FIRST
is the tabby cat that is pregnant and the women is selling for £100
Update on that is i have the ladies phone number now and also the vets phone number - i am trying to speak to vet now.

SECOND ADD
Was a lady who was looking for a tom cat to make her female pregnant ! The owner thought she was doing the best thing, thought her female was in pain while in season and she also didn't want to have her spayed as she thought it would hurt !!!!
I rang this women last night and had a long chat, told her all about FIV, FeLV, problems with birth and reassured her that having the cat spayed would not hurt the cat at all. Owner was really nice and said she didn't know anything of what i had told her and was going to prob have her spayed now

Oh, well done Furbabe.

Right now, where do we send the money?  If you manage to persuade the owner to give you Lily without having to pay anything for her, then maybe the money we pledged could help the person/shelter who has offered to take her....poor little girl.  Just seven months old and a mum-to-be already.

It seems odd that a young boy should be asking for such a sum of money for a cat.  I hope he's not trying to sell the family pet!!  Or maybe he is in trouble himself. Worrying.

Do take someone with you Furbabe when you go to collect.

Lots of love

Roz

£80, to rehome a cat they didn't want anyway?! People can be awful, they just see animals as pound signs.

Glad she's with you and safe. Sorry I can't contribute financially, my lot are enough of a monetary strain ATM!(One that I'd not be without, obviously!)

Pictures,please! :)

Well done Michelle, that's fantastic news, I'll happily chip in towards her care too.  Isn't it wonderful what we can achieve here on Purrs, I know that we can't save them all but without Michelle she could be destined to have a very unhappy future.  I feel really proud to belong to our little 'community'.

Three cheers for furbabystar (Michelle) and of course to Mbll for bringing this to our attention  :cheer:

Just spoken to the lady from the sanctuary that she is going to - taking her there at 10.30 tomorrow.
God i am tempted to keep her but i have to be sensible, i already have 10 of my own and i know that there is no way i would part with the kittens when they are born so it is best all round.

Foal farm really is a lovely place and i work quiet closely with them so i will be able to give update on how she is doing. Saffron on these boards prob knows the place and will be able to vouch for it being a lovely place for her to be at.

Thank you to all that have offered to help towards the £80 Anyone that wants to give PM me but theres no pressure at all - i am just glad to her saved her from a life of having babies (which i am sure what would have happened to her)

(just going to charge my camera so i can post some pics)

Wonderful news Michelle.

It is worrying though that this young lad was given £80 for selling a pregnant moggie.  He will probably try that stroke again.  I wouldn't worry if he was selling dodgy computer gear or anything like that but animals are completely different. I hope he realised that you only bought Lily to save her from a neglected life.

I have seen Foal Farm highlighting their little strays plenty of times in the Rescue Magazine and I've always been impressed by them so it's really good to hear that Lily is going to somewhere so caring.

I shall send you some money towards Lily.  Perhaps if all of us who promised to contribute would send our donations to you, any excess could be given to Foal Farm to help towards Lily's upkeep.

Well done once again.  You've done really well hun. :)

Lots of love to you and the young mum-to-be

Roz

VERY emotional here. so pleased you have her. if you need anything for her let me know.

Bless that little baby girl.  she will be so happy now.

I'm with Roz. any dody material thing whatever. but a life. you cannot put a price on it and a life is a precious thing. in this case it is several lives. I wish Lilly a wonderful happy life now and hope her kittens are born healthly and have wonderful lives too.   Can't wait to see some photos of her. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It makes me wonder how safe this 15 year old lad is if there were lots of 'uncles' about.

I can contribute too, towards the £80. I will pm you for your address or wherever you want me to send it to.

Well done. I am so pleased she is out of there. I agree that it's great what can be achieved through this site.

Well just got back from taking Lilly to Foalfarm. I settled her into her new home, she is in the indoor hospital wing where she will have human company all day. She has a large room (yes a room not a pen!) with beds, climbing frame, scratch post  and loads of toys.
It was very emotional leaving her there as although i know she will be well cared for and loved i couldnt help but have a cry as i left her .......silly isnt it as i only had her for one night ! I gave her kisses from all her "auntys" on here
If i had been a stronger person i would have kept her till the kittens had been born and weaned and then rehomed them all but i'm not strong lol i wouldnt have parted with her or her babies.

I totally agree with what you have said Roz about the money paid for her, i find it  :censored: disgusting that she was "sold" but i had to put that aside and just get Lilly out of there. She really is the most loving little thing although i dont think she has had the best start in life as she "ducks down" when you go to stroke her (i hate to think !!!)

If i had been a stronger person i would have kept her till the kittens had been born and weaned and then rehomed them all but i'm not strong lol i wouldnt have parted with her or her babies.

Yes anyone that wants to send any money would be great and again i agree with Roz that any money over should go to Foalfarm, they are a charity who dont get any funding so that would be lovely.
Heres there website if you want to have a look

Lots of love

Michelle,

I think you ARE strong  to take her to where you knew she would get the best treatment. You could have kept her,but as you have said, it would have been so hard to give the kittens up. I think you did the right thing by taking her to the sanctuary. The people there will be  experienced in looking after pregnant animals.

Well done.

Hi again Michelle,

Thanks for the update.  I'll pm you for your address later today...unless you wish to pm me first.  All I need is your address.

Foal Farm sounds very large...is it?  They take in a whole array of animals...a bit like Wood Green. What did you think of the place?  It sounds like Lily has a lovely room to stay in until her babies are born.  I only ask because there was a dog on their site a while ago who had become almost 'institutionalised' because no-one had offered him a home in over six years..bless him! The main reason was because he was frightened of children (a group had tried to set fire to him when he was a puppy...hence the reason he was at Foal Farm) and he needed a home without cats also...otherwise I would have offered him a home in an instant.  I haven't seen him highlighted on their site for a few months but he is probably still there... I just dare not think about him any longer..it is too sad.

It would be good to know that Foal Farm is a lovely place though.

Lots of love

Roz
