Title: Poppy missing - UPDATE - POPPY IS HOME
Post by: MrsR on August 11, 2008, 07:48:31 AM
recently I was worried about Poppy but this time she has been missing since Friday evening, me and hubby went walking round all the fields yesterday and we are hoping she has got locked in one of the offices, warehouses over the weekend near where we live but getting very anxious now - me and hubby are at work all day, I'll get home around 5pm today and praying she will be  asleep on the bed when I walk in  :(

It's one of Sam's tips:

6. Put the contents of your hoover bag on your garden - it’s full of smells that they will recognise and if doesn’t bring him directly to your door will at least hopefully keep him in the area. Alternatively if you have a litter tray that has used put some of the used litter on the garden as this will have familiar smells in it.

Hope she comes home soon!

She has probably got herself shut in somewhere - have a look at the hints and tips: http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,4304.0.html

I can't stress enough point number 1.  POSTERS and FLYERS everywhere.  once you think you've got enough out ... go round again and put more out.  I stopped people in the street and gave them a flyer.  Every flat surface got a poster on it (don't forget bus stops .. either on the bus stop itself or VERY close).

It's also a good idea to go out after dark when it's quieter ... she will have a better chance of hearing you and you her.

If she is found as a stray there is a good chance she will end up at our place. They will be primed and ready with their chip-scanner thingy.

Even if she wasn't chipped she'd have two weeks before she got homed and I'd have been to take pics by then (hence why I wanted a quick pic-nothing at all to do with me wanting an extra kitty fix oh no...  :evillaugh: )

So what I'm saying is there's a good chance if she's handed to anyone it'll be us and I will personally bring her back to you if that happens!

She's beautiful by the way and distinctive too which is handy!

Good luck hun xx

Been out and leafleted more house.

Have allowed myself to cry which is the worst thing as just been sobbing on hubbies shoulder and just in bits now  :(

C.Smokey on the pink of her nose she has a little black spot, it looks like someone has gone at her with a black ball point pen and put a spot on her, its dead cute.

Tonight will be 3rd night AWOL now  :(

Thanks for your support guys it means a lot.

Cannot believe I am going through this again, went through it with Bunty but that had a good outcome and this hopefully will too!    My first posts here where about Bunty going missing!  :(

I think I got through today at work as I hoped Poppy was stuck in warehouses around me over the weekend and Monday morning staff would come open up and she'd come running home and so this drove me through today at work hoping she'd be on her sleeping place on her scratch post when I got home but sadly not!

Tomorrow at work will be so SO hard, as you know its a new job I have started so have to concentrate and keep my mind on the job but I just know Poppy will be in my heart and mind.

I have to keep thinking that after 10 days Bunty came home so Poppy can too.   Hubby keeps reminding me about Bunty which helps as Bunty is an old lady and she coped whereas Poppy is so young compared.

Tonight I feel exhausted mentally and physically and have taken a sleeping tablet because otheriwse I' start to go out my mind.

I miss my little Popster and her mate Elvis knows something is wrong and is missing her pal as they are partners in crime.  :(

Our house tonight is a sad house, please send us all your coming home vibes

Mrs R, try to relax. Have a glass of something naughty and try to get some rest. I'm sure you've followed Maddie's story and she's perfectly healthy after four whole months!

You have made the best provisions for her in keeping Poppy safe, loved and chipped so I am absolutely certain she'll rock up at some point with 'that' look on her face.

Sending you and Poppy more

Sorry Mrs R no good news for you. I just had a call from our coordinator about a tortie and white cat that had been found. She was found over a week ago and she's not chipped. Have a look at the pic though it's a little spooky...

When I found Zsa Zsa a couple of years ago, she had been missing for three months and was only a couple of hundred yards from her home.  But her family didn't think to look or post posters round our way because there is a church in between their house and ours, windy roads and cul-de-sacs.  So the houses seem further apart than they are, if that makes sense.

Have you thought about the route Poppy might have taken from a cat's point of view rather than a human one, MrsR?  That is, if there are dead ends or walls around your way, there will be separate areas in your mind but not in Poppy's, causing you to miss out looking in some places?

Your posts has made me sob, have done great today on holding them back but I guess if they are going to come then they will.

Hubby said on Friday after work we will have a mass posting of leaflets ariund the area again and I think we will go further afield.

I am just so sad from right inside my heart, its the only way I can describe it.    Think if she has passed I'd prefer to know as I could mourn her but the not knowing is the worst bit - cant believe its the second time we have gone through this in this house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was Poppy's second chance - have I failed her?

So many thoughts and questions go through your mind!    Even if someone has her I'd like to know as I could tell thm how to best look after her, her habits, ets - you klnow what I am saying right?

She is our little girl and she has a very disinct personality - you DO have to know her to get her!

Sorry i AM WAFFLING!

I was Poppy's second chance - have I failed her?

Not at all, you clearly give your cats a fantastic home!

The uncertainty must be awful.

I gave Binky freedom (he would never have been an indoor cat - I had to haul him back in through a first floor window once as he was intent on escaping by his back legs) and he had a short life but he was  a happy cat, all you can do is the best for them and find a compromise between safety and freedom that works for you all.

I really feel for you.

Mrs R i dont know if this will help, but i lost my cat Wizzy 4 month ago ,i was given some local numbers and thought they may be of some help,Janice cpl swanwick, 01773 784586 --Jo ashfield and amber valley 01332 780800 ---JANE 01773 860126,THERES ALSO pHIL cLARKE (cat man) 01623 756592, i hope these help and she comes home soon, i will be thinking of you

Thanks for these numbers but a couple of them are ever-so-slightly the wrong details. Janice isn't CP. She does a fabulous job co-ordinating some local rescues such as South Normanton where I'm a volunteer. Poppy shouldn't end up there but I will let them know to keep an eye out. Jane IS CP in Swanwick, although that number is for her Cattery business (finest in the area imho) but she's part of Ashfield and Amber Valley branch dealing with the older cats and is currently full. Jo is also Ashfield and Amber Valley as a fosterer but she's based towards Ilkeston somewhere so it's not as likely she'll come across Poppy (although she does keep the lost and found register up to date).

In all instances I'm sure they would be referred to the coordinator at Ashfield and Amber Valley who is armed with information to safely return Poppy to MrsR. They have had a cat brought in who's a reasonable Poppy-a-like (see my prev post) so they know exactly what they looking for and they're really hot on checking for chips.

Jo also has a chip-scanner so that would be her first job too. I'm not sure about Janice as I don't know her personally.

One more thing. Mrs R I am going to help you over the weekend if she's not back!

OMG OMG OMG I had just posted on Purrs when the phone went from a lady saying she had picked up our lost cat leaflet from the local store and worked at a Motor Home warehouse and they had seen a cat locked in a motor home in their showroom, they had opened the door and it had shot out into their showroom, they had got an RSPCA trap and had trapped it but it had got out of it when they'd fed it and was under their floor boards - obviously me and hubby went racing round as it was down the road from us.

When we go their they led us upstairs and gave us a torch and said it was under the floor boards but if you climbed onto the desk you can see through the gap.   They said they'd tried to get her out for days and when I climbed up and called she started meowing - they said thats the first time she meowed.    At first I could just hear her but hubby called and she popped her head out - we couldn't get trhough the gap and she was about 10 foot down from us so couldn't reach down, so hubby kept calling her with tons of food and after 20 mins she came out and he grabbed her - her paws and underbelly black from dust!

You can imagine my tears, the showroom had customers in also - must have locked insane two people jumping on and off desks shouting Poppy and crying!

POPPY IS HOME  ;D ;D ;D ;D

She is walking round stunned but she knows she is home, she is safe and healthy and fine, bit of a scratch on her nose but thats it!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support  :Luv:

Also weirdly this is my 1,000 post on Purrs - how amazing is that!

We just took this photo

I keep just laying next to her cuddling her, she will fall asleep then jump up and come looking for us then fall asleep again - like she is so tired that she cannot keep her eyes open then wake panicing and comes to find us.    Awwwwww she was obviously so stressed.     So happy to have her home.

Poppy slept inbetween her mummy and daddy all night and it just so nice to have her home still.    Her pal Elvis is still a bit hissy to her but the hissing is getting less, Poppy is constantly following us around and thats just fine by me, she keeps looking at the boarded up cat flap and sitting infront of it but there is no way she is going out of it - all of them are shut in all weekend thats for sure.
