Yep, adopting new cat Saturday all being well. It's being going on for a while and I've been looking at all the poorly oldies on here but not been able to adopt any until I knew what was happening but finally looks like he'll be here on Saturday. He was on CC as urgent going to be pts a few months ago he's 17 and deaf and blind with lots of other problems but loves life despite that apparently.
-
aww, has he got a name? how exciting, hope everything goes smoothly
-
Pepper :Luv:

:) Thanks when he first went to the vet they found he was hyperthyroid, has heart problems and high blood pressure. It's taken so long because he's been having lots of blood tests to get him stable. His fosterer came to meet us the other weekend and said he should be very happy here she says despite everything he has he's such an amazing cat. He'll get so much love with us and have everything he wants for however long he's here
-
Aww, he looks lovely :Luv2: So glad he is coming to live with you Janey.

-
What a gorgeous boy - I'm sure he will soon settle in with you and enjoy his lovely new home - look forward to updates and more pics.
-
He is lovely, no wonder you fell in love.
-
When I originally enquired about him 2 months ago I just offered him a home whatever I had no idea what he was like at all because it was urgent he was to be pts the following week there was no photo - I actually didn't see a photo of him until recently because I asked the lady who rescued him to send me some through but he is lovely thanks :Luv:
-
I have been there, when I offered to foster Zia, all I knew was she was 17 and her friend had died at the rescue, it was only after they said yes I thought i better find out a name and colour!!
-
I know it did feel a bit strange really offering a home to a cat I had no idea anything about what he looked like etc but that didn't matter, he needed a loving home and I could offer one :)
-
Exactly the way I feel, I have agreed to a couple without seeing them, but then I am used to fosteirng and taking on whatever is needed. I remember when my friend took in a foster for us, she was asking loads of questions on age, sex, colour, and I had to ring the lady loads of times, as I just agree and see what turns up!!
-
Only 2 more sleeps to go Janey! ;D
I too have took a cat on not knowing what she looked like....As long as its a cat thats all that matters...each have their own little personalities which makes them look different again once you get to know them! :Luv:
-
Oh Pepper is simply gorgeous :Luv:
Well done Janey
-
thanks, not long now! I spoke to Lauren today and asked if he'd like anything getting or any favourite food and she said no he will eat anything, bless him :Luv: he really protests at being given tablets though and they have to be crushed in his food so his thyroid one will be shoved in a prawn or Webbox ;)
-
I'd defo recommend the defurrum treats hun, they're the only way I can get tablets inside Max, just break the biscuit in half, pop the pill inside, it gets hidden with the gooey deferrum paste, then pop the biscuit back together again ;)
-
Thanks Clare, I'll get some of those tomorrow! I only bought them once when they had teeth and they liked them but don't seem to like really hard things now, Pep has teeth though so I bet he will like them ;D
-
Im currently getting Lolas meds down her in defurrums, i can pill her but she really fights so as theres 3 a day its much nicer for her ;D
Gooey falls for the webbox stick trick :evillaugh:
-
:congrats:
Pepper looks a first-class cuddle chops! :catlove2:
-
Thinking of you picking up your gorgeous new adoption Janey.....What a wonderful new life will begin for him! :Luv:
-
I wonder if he's got his little bag packed :Luv2:
We offered to fetch him but Lauren wanted to bring him and settle him in so she'll be here about lunchtime, I think she may also be doing some more transport runs at the same time.
-
Aww Pepper starting his new life today. :Luv:
I wonder if Lauren is the lady who look after Teddy? IT was Josie who told me teddy is with a lady with 8 cats :)
Teddy was the cuddly b/w cat with rta i think.
Well good luck with Pepper.
-
Good luck today Janey
We will be expecting photos :shify:
-
Fingers crossed for today

Best of luck Pepper in your brand new home :Luv2: xx

I bet you cant wait Janey, looking forward to seeing some photos later (no pressure like :naughty:)
-
:) thanks Claire and we'll be expecting yours tomorrow ;)
I've spoken to Lauren and she's leaving anytime ;D
-
Looking forward to hearing about Pepper's (imminent :wow:) arrival in his lovely new home ;D
-
Wishing you and the very handsome Pepper a lifetime of happiness.
-
:thanks: Christine and Theresa
Lauren is nearly here but stuck in traffic she said he's quiet but gets a little angry and scratches a bit - he gets a bit frustrated I think but she stopped to give him a cuddle half way and he was so pleased and gave her slobbery kisses bless him :Luv:
-
Hope Pepper lands soon and starts his lovely new life with you and yours Janey - we will of course need piccies once Pepper is in the mood!
-
;D Exciting news! Looking forward to more pics.
-
;D Pepper is here and settled, he's had 2 small dishes of food and lots of cuddles (he's been purring away, he's gorgeous :Luv:). He isn't supposed to be keen on catnip but I took one of Byron's stinkies in and he was having a little play with it when we looked ;D, poor boy it must feel strange though. We've set him up as he was at Laurens in the kitchen with his little stool which he likes to sit on, litter tray and other familiar things until he finds his paws. She also made a guard which he had in her flat so he was away from the other cats so we'll keep that for the time being as it keeps him in small area. I think he's tired now because he's dosing off, Lauren has just left and I'll take some photos later.
-
Oooo how exciting, I am pleased he is settling in, you have a lovely evening in store
-
his little stool which he likes to sit on,
Why does that little detail make me go misty-eyed? :Luv:
I'm sure he will find his paws very quickly with you, Janey
-
Sounding good :Luv2:
Can't wait to see the photos.
Mary
-
Aww, things are sounding good.
-
I've taken some photos and will upload them in the morning. He's just sat sleeping on and off but he still knows everytime we go into the kitchen and bruups, he's so sweet! Byron growled when she first saw him and has peeped round the door a few times but tbh I don't think she'll give a damn she can't be bothered, which is good because she was my main concern.
Pep hasn't eaten his tea though which I hoped he would because it has his tablets in for his blood pressure and heart although that may be because he ate a fair bit this afternoon, I will give him his thyroid tablet later in a treat. I think I'll give him his tablets first thing on a morning to make sure he's really hungry and gets the meds down him.
-
Aw, he sounds so sweet and maybe Byron's company will be what Pepper needs too. :Luv2:
Mary
-
He sounds lovely and he came with his own little stool too.....so sweet.
I am sure he is tired cos he probably has to concentrate very hard to know whats going on and when everything smells new and he has moved locations, thats a whole lot of concentration
-
Great to hear that he's settling in already, am sure he'll be hungry in the morning.
-
I heard him during the night knock Byron's food dish off her little table (the one Schui used) so I fed him, we moved the barrier but he hasn't moved from his little corner as yet and Byron hasn't been in the kitchen I don't think, so we'll see today.
Yes Gill he seems very wary I've been watching him and it's interesting, although he's in a small area if he moves from from his cushion he sniffs all the other things as if to find a marker so he knows where everything is. Although Schui was deaf and then went blind it was very different for him because he knew where everything was but Pepper has no idea as yet so is bound to be reluctant to move from his comfort zone.
-
Dont know how ive missed this topic  what a lovely thing to do by adopting an oldie and especially one like Pepper, who is very handsome :Luv2: how could anyone want to put such a lovely cat to sleep, i hope he soon settles in and has a lovely life with plenty of pampering and look forward to seeing more photo,s of him
-
He's had a wonder round the kitchen and hall, eaten his food - and Byron's! and he's weed and pooed :) I've spent time with him given him a good brush and cuddle and he seems fine. Byron's not too pleased though and was going to wee in my bag this morning :( so feliwayed everywhere and keeping them separate for a while, giving her lots of reassurance too.
-
I think you kind of expect a "what do you think you're doing" reaction with most cats really....hope Byron settles down and glad Pepper is doing OK. :)
-
Thanks JS :) yep, to be expected with some cats I suppose, we've been really lucky with our last few cats, Smokey loved other cats so accepted Schui immediately, and Schui accepted Byron straight away too but she's a bit iffy, I think she's a bit scared tbh.
-
Can't wait to see the photos.
:pic: :waiting:
-
Aw bless him, he sounds so amazing the way he is sussing the place out! ;D
Please tell Byron not to be scared of him, he is a proper gent and Im sure she will know that soon enough! :Luv:
:welcome: to your forever home Pepper! :Luv2:
-
My puter kept crashing! but here are a couple of him with all his things from Lauren's so things aren't strange, eventually we'll move them out.
-
oh I forget to say, he's also only got half a tail, don't know what happened to it though!
-
Bless him :Luv2: Love his little stool :)
-
Aww! He is so clever! :Luv2:
-
A few more.....(If you notice he's resting his head on a PURR's Stinkie ;D he likes them!)
-
Oh, he's so thin! But I'm sure you'll soon build him up a bit
He looks to be settling in already :)
-
Aww he is so lovely, I bet you are having a fab time with him, he seems to have made himself at home x
-
His breath smell really bad though, I think a vet visit is a good idea. I can see alot of tartar on his teeth and he eats really strange to the side of his mouth so I think they could be bothering a bit, not sure what they'll be able to do though because I would say an anaesthetic is out of the question, probably abs will be the only solution - wonder if vet woud be able to scrape the tartar off under gentle sedation?
-
:Luv: Pepper. :)
-
Oh, he's so thin! But I'm sure you'll soon build him up a bit

He eats like a horse, he's finished his own and Byron's food off but he's hyperthyroid, hopefully the tabs will help but I do know they don't always.
-
Aw I love him already! :Luv2:
Dont know about the teeth/sedation situ as Nikki had Bunty's teeth done a bit ago and was'nt allowed sedation! :(
Think that was extractions though so you never know! ;)
-

yeah, I know that's what I was thinking :tired: hope something can be done because I've seen him paw his cheek when eating too, I know for Byron's 2 vet sometimes sort of scrapes them a bit then give me abs but Pepper looks to have quite a few teeth and Lauren says he really hates his mouth touching.
-
Aww :Luv: :Luv: Pepper.
-
:Luv2: Pepper :Luv:
There is something about older cats :)
-
He's adorable, and it looks like he's settling just fine :Luv2:
If a dental is out of the questions, speak to the vet about 2 week antibiotic jabs, thats what Maxy was given as his teeth were bothering him too.
It might also be worth trying Plaque Off in his food, obviously it can't repair the damage hemay have already, but it may stop more building.
What thyroid tabs is he on? I have about 7 Vidalta tabs if you need them? xxx
-
:Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: he's fab!
-
Aww, he looks very contented already sleeping on that cushion :Luv2:
-
He is lovely and love the way he eats standing on his stool and eating offf the dustin ;D
-
He is an amazing old boy :Luv: we decided let him walk about this afternoon supervised and I'm learning so much watching him, Byron has been pretty good apart from the odd growl earlier.. until he accidentally walked into her and she thwacked him. It is like having a toddler but he retraces his steps wherever he goes and walks so slowly. He also says hello every time you stroke him but will let you know if he doesn't like something, he's not a maungy cat :) he has sat all afternoon infront of the patio windows with the fresh air blowing through the small gap, which I don't think he's had for a while.
-
:Luv2: Pepper :Luv:
There is something about older cats :)
There is for sure Mark :)

Thanks Clare, I'll ask the vet about those. He is on Vidalta atm and that's very kind of you  his notes do say may change to Felimazole if no improvement in 1 month. He was re-tested just before he came to us but the tablets had been crushed so vet said that could be why his T4 levels were sky high. Hopefully now he's getting them whole they will lower the T4.
-
He's lovely, Janey. Hope he settles in with Byron in no time.
-
Theres just something about the oldies that make you want to love them, they have character but also seem very vunerable to the outside world, he looks very happy and content asleep on his cushion :) and im sure it wont take long for him to settle and make friends with Bryon
-
Aw bless him - he'll be more and more content every day. :Luv2:
Mary
-
thanks Ruth and Bonnielass, another picture when he was having a wander
-
To say he's blind he is doing so well with lots of help an love from you obviously. :Luv2: :Luv2:

 Thanks Mary xx
He has so many health problems but nothing seems to stop him, he's still got that spirit to find his way and get on with life, Lauren kept saying he's amazing and he is ;D
-
I'm sure he will be sensing that you are a loving and caring mum and he is safe with you.
I wish you all the luck in the world with him.

That is very true.
-
He is wonderful - what other health issues does he have? Tino had his dental when his thyroid levels were 3 times higher than they should be and his liver values were 200 higher than the top end of normal, and Sam's liver values were 100 higher with borderline hyper-t at his dental.
-
When he was handed over he was found to be hyperthyroid, hypertensive and had rapid heart rate and oedema feet - so could have been like this a long time and I wonder whether the hypertension may have contributed to his blindness. Last week he was taken to the vet for the day to have all these things retested, his bp and heart had improved but T4>200 and he wants it below 50 (so that's about 4 x higher than normal but vet suspects because tablets the fosterer had crushed them. I've to take him for it retested in 1 month. It also says on the vet reports he has gingivitis and needs a dental and tartar +++ which is obvious! poor fella and I don't think that vet was prepared to do it.
-
His thyroid levels are worse than Tino's were then (his were 180). I would be tempted to give him some Classic Cat food, it stopped Sam's gums being red in a few days and might just help while the meds bring his levels down. Hypertension can cause blindness if untreated. Fingers crossed the meds work a lot now they aren't being crushed, I think Vidalta can work in a matter of days.
-
Yep carbimazole worked pretty quick for me and I suspect they may him - if he'll take it!
-
Thinking of you and the gorgeous Pepper Janey, do hope something can be sorted for his mouth probs!
Ive seen the Classis food in PAH but Im sure Asda do it cheaper? :-: :Luv:

thanks  I usually buy Classic from Tescos or PAH - not sure how they compare with Asda though and he does seem to like it.
-
Oo! Hadnt seen it in Tesco and as it seems to have the green light on here by the reports Ive read I may just give one or two of mine a try also!
Glad he is liking it and I hope it gives him some relief! :Luv:
-
Asda dont sell Classic, the only places i have seen it is Morrisons, Wilkinsons and Pets at Home, but it is generally on offer in PAH, and less than £10 for 24 tins. I rarely shop in Tesco, but didn't see it last time I was in.
-
Oh! :shy: Im wondering where now?
Do they sell this in foil trays also Des? :shify: If so then I think it may of been InStores (prob local to NE!)
-
if they do, i have never seen them - we have an InStore.
-
Im gonna have to have a look around either tomorrow or Wed and report back.....My memory usually serves me so well! :shy:
-
it would be great if they did, as Sam goes off it, but if they did smaller trays I could mix it with his Oh So
-

I will check it out as we also have a "Home Bargains" and that does diff foods also! ;)

Yep, Tescos sell 6 x 400g gram tins meat or fish variety
eta: @ £2.30 each
-
See!!! Im not going crazy after all! ;D :evillaugh:
-
Well since Byron's thwack at Pepper on Sunday he preferred to stay in the kitchen and hall and started to hiss at me on and off yesterday, I think he could smell her - he was certainly aware of her so must realize her smell now. Meanwhile Byron stopped hissing at him! so the aggression is just fear, I'm watching them closely and doing all the things to help ease the situation. This morning they have actually eaten just a foot apart both a few hisses and that's been it, Pep seems happier and Byron too. To say he's only been here 3 days I'm really pleased with them both, I would love Pepper to move around more but I think t may take a while and I won't force the issue, he certainly tells you if you do something he dislikes and you can't move him because he gets disorientated. I've brushed him every morning and he seems to love that, he's a really lovely boy :Luv:
-
Aw bless, as you know Janey it is really early days so for that they are doing fab! Hissing is normal and Im sure as you say its probably fear related with Byron....Once she knows that Pepper is no threat Im sure they will be just fine and he will start to suss the place out fully! :Luv:
Give them cuties a head rub from me would you dear! ;)
-
Well done to you and Pepper
Mary
-
Glad things are going OK between them.
Asda are selling the Classic tins as part of their pet event - £2 for 6 tins.
-
Thanks, I am learning so much from him, he susses everything out all the time. Although I've had deaf and blind cats Pepper's is the most severe. The hoover is a nightmare he must feel the vibrations and doesn't like it but you can't move him he gets very angry which is understandable because he loses his bearings the best I can do is take him to a familiar spot.
-
Aww bless him, he sounds like he is doing really well, love the fact you brush him every morning, he must think he is in paradise :Luv2:
-
Iv seen pics of 100g classic trays and pouches but have never seen a stockist
Thank heavens for that as I though I was hallucinating (sp?) :evillaugh:
Seen them today in In Store and they are 25p each but only had the poultry flavour! ;)
Hope Pepper is having a good day....not forgetting our gorgeous lady Byron also! :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Thanks DM and Bazsmum
He's doing so well, there has been no hissing between them both this morning :wow: and yesterday I felt so sorry for him sat in the hall so I picked him up and took him outside. I let him have a little walk in the garden (supervised of course) he walks so slowly so it's no problem, just like having a toddler steering him around. He seemed so happy sniffing the air and walking on the grass, it was lovely and sunny and I think he really enjoyed it :)
-
How lovely that Pepper was able to enjoy the garden, sending lots of happy vibes to one of my favourite little men
-
Aw bless him, sounds like he enjoyed his garden stroll :Luv2:
-
Just checking how Pepper's doing with Byron - sounds good. :)
-
One big happy family  :Luv2:
So pleased for you.
Mary
-
Wow! This is all happening so fast, its really good that the hissing between them is subsiding and Im so glad he enjoyed his little escorted venture outside! :Luv:
-
How lovely :Luv: I'm sure Pepper will have loved to feel the grass under his paws :)
-
;D yep, he's been out most of this afternoon with us and he's flaked out now! :evillaugh: he was in a small area in a flat for a few months before he came to us so I think he's loving it. He's also gaining more confidence he's sat in the lounge now along with Byron they're still a bit hissy on and off but nothing much now :)
-
Glad things are going so well.
Instore do sell the Classic trays, but they aren't as good as the tins - they are actually a pate style and contain cereal, which the tins dont. Sam loved it though, but i only bought one tray just in case, so will have to go again soon for some more
-
I've never seen an InStore Desley, but I will try and get hold of those pates I'm sure my 2 will love them, thanks :)
-
Think they used to be Poundstretchers - ours is probably too far away for you Jane
-
ok thanks Desley, I have seen Poundstretchers though
-
How is the Pepper and Byron saga going Janey? Hope these two are full of beans (not litterally! :evillaugh: ) :Luv:
-
Great, thanks for asking, still a bit hissy but not much it just tends to be when Pepper gets a bit too close. He is exploring the house more now he went into the little bedroom the other day and when I looked he was stretched out fast asleep on the ottoman :Luv: A few photos of Pep in the garden....
-
A few more...
-
Aww, the first pic reminded me a bit of Tino. Glad he is enjoying himself.
-
He's such a cutie, and clearly loves having a stroll and a roll around in the garden :Luv2:
-
He's gorgeous and yes, he obviously loves the garden :Luv:
-
Hes a handsome fellow :Luv2:
-
He looks so adorable in all those pics, lovely to see him enjoying himself....What a great time he is obviously having! :Luv2:
-
thanks, he's been out again today you have to watch him, he'll go far if you let him now :sneaky: and he's done about 20 laps round the house bless him :evillaugh: he retraces his steps all the time and for the first time come into the lounge and stayed for ages for lots of fussing :Luv2:
-
Janey how lucky he is to have you, he looks so happy and so well
-
He's a credit to you sweetie xxx
-
what a gorgeous boy little Pepper is, looks so, so happy!
-
Aww sweet Pepper :Luv: He looks so happy and well. x
-
Thanks, he's a fiesty little chappy :evillaugh: he now knows where all the rooms are and does not like any doors closed! he scrats to go through them then scrats to come back in. He loves to just sit in the garden and came and sat on my knee outside the other day :wow:. I emailed Lauren and Josie an update and attached some photos and Lauren said oh, he's putting you in your place is he I thought it wouldn't take long. He really does know what he wants and tells you in no uncertain terms, considering he's deaf and blind he is very determined little fella :Luv: I have to book for his thyroid bloods taking this week and hopefully he can have that dental.
