This is so sad, it only seems to have gotten into the UK news today. There's not much time to try to save him.

Sorry to say, I've just read the Bastards shot the giraffe today. What is wrong with these people? I hate zoos anyway and this just goes to show what they really think of their animals. Other zoos had offered a place to this giraffe but it seem they were determined to kill him whatever.

Such sad news. I've read multiple articles about this and there seems to be conflicting stories.
Some saying that they couldn't find a suitable alternative home for him, some saying that the zoo thought he was 'genetically unimportant' to go to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and others saying several places had offered and had either been declined or not responded to.
I just don't understand why you would breed and then feed a giraffe for 18 months to then make the decision to kill him.

I've been trying to work this out and wonder if it's because he was a popular attraction when a baby/young now he's just another adult giraffe so not as cute.
I don't understand the conservation issue either. I don't think that giraffes are a threatened species. Surely all the giraffes that they now breed are going to have the same problem, that they all come from a limited gene pool. So this means either, no more breeding or using animals captured from the wild. Which won't be acceptable to most people.
