As I walked in the back door yesterday after returning from holiday the phone rang, I picked it up and a man said my brother has gone in a nursing home and I have to get rid of his cat. I advised him that I had just walked in the door after returning from being away almost 3 weeks and that I would find out the position and ring him tomorrow. I also said that I know we were having 3 new pens put up today (which is now yesterday) and although we had cats waiting to come in I would bring in the cat. I asked him if he could take the cat to our vets which has a branch about 6 miles from him and he said he had no transport and did not know anyone with any. He then said it is full of fleas so I will take the cat to the vet (meaning for PTS) I advised him that fleas can soon be 'sorted' and there would be no need to PTS. I assured him again I would ring him today and take the cat in and the fact that he had no transport would not be a problem. I tried to contact Suzanne who was having the new pens but she was out so left a message on her answerphone to ring me, about 30 mins late she did, I explained the position and asked her to phone the man immediately, she did but unfortunately he said he had called his nearest vets and asked then to pick up the cat and PTS. (Unfortunately I cannot post my thoughts about him as Tan would not be too pleased). Suzanne immediately tried to ring the vet concerned but the were closed. After a sleepless night she rang them at 8.30 a.m. and fortunately the vet said he could not PTS for the reasons given and that they would keep it 24 hrs to see if they could find it a home. As I am sure you must have guessed by now the little one will be the first new resident in Suzanne's pens, it is being picked up from Bakewell in a couple of hours or so and will be taken straight to out vets for a MOT and treatment to what appears to be a long standing eye problem.
