Just spoken to the Lady at Foal and their vet is going to send away a blood test.
It is highly likely that it will still come back positive but there is a small chance it might come back negative.

An in-house test only shows up the anti-bodies (which a cat can shake off) where as a glasgow test tests for the Virus rather than the anti-bodies.

so its just a question of FINGERS CROSSED

I hope you put her right?

Will Foal Farm pay for a Glasgow test?  If not I'd be happy to chip in towards it...

So there is still hope - I wonder if Foal will pay for a test?

That's a bit worrying  :-:  Was this the vet surgery?

No - that was the girl that answered the phone at FoalFarm .....Bless her ! :scared:

The girl i spoke to from the vets said they had all falled in love with Paddy and could i let her know how he gets on .
It turns out he was picked up as stray by a member of the public following a minor RTA, the person that found him wanted to keep him and that is why an FIV test was done. When he proved positive this person wouldnt have him as she was worried about her other cats

Thanks Carl,

Don't forget Sharon as she took this one on even though it was out of our area and their local rescues, including CP declined  :(

II am not sure about the Glasgow test, it wasnt that clear if they had or not..

Sharon I am going to ring the vets tomorrow just to double check it was a Glasgow test ( i am sure they said it was when i spoke to them).
Wouldnt it be great if it was an in-house test and a proper one turns out to be negative  !!!

Paddy is lovely and lets hope who ever gives him a home knows a lot about FIV cats, think we should start putting our web addy with the cats  ;D

I dont understand why that practise manager works at a vets if he has no compassion for animals, well done for a vet that cares like the one who saved my Misa and his friend.

I was told by the vet that Paddy was a stray picked up Folkestone way.. No other rescue would help and they were being pushed into PTS by the practice manager as he had been there over a week anyhows. The people that brought him in were going to adopt him, but when he was treated for minor RTA injuries they did a FIV test and it proved to be positive.. I am not sure about the Glasgow test, it wasnt that clear if they had or not..

He was a neutered tom  at the vets, so perhaps someone had him and dumped him not knowing he was positive. He was found in a very undesirable area of the town and FIV is present there... so i was told. Thats all i know.

He's a handsome boy - glad the vet had a heart  :Luv:

Sharon was going to check if he had the test done a Glasgow. I think she said she was sure it was done there. Maybe the owner didn't want him as he was positive - poor thing.

Thanks for the pix  ;D

that's interesting to know Michelle, I just assumed you couldn't mix, not that I've got any vacancies at the moment!  Although if my premium bonds come up!!

its got to be a personal decision Dawn because there is always a risk when mixing them but a neutered FIV really doesnt pose much risk.
As I have said, I would take an FIV in with my lot - infact my number 11 (Tramp) was an un-neutered stray so there is a very high chance that he is FIV positive but i have not bothered having him tested. If he ever starts showing any symptoms then i would have him tested just so that i know and could start with extra supplements etc

He is an absolute babe. I feel complete poo, I could have him and he could go out safely in my cat proofed garden and be safe and enjoy the sunshine, no having to stay indoors.

But none of mine have FIV.  I feel dreadful. :'(

I wouldnt let that stop you though Gail !!
I would have an FIV with my lot.
Celia Hammond did a test - she mixed FIV and NON FIV and none past on the virus. She also did it in an confined feral collany and still the virus wasnt past on.

Alot of people views have changed about mixing FIV cats, I know the women at Foal said she didnt have a problem with mixing them and also allowing FIV cats to go outside BUT as a rescue they HAVE to keep them apart and also ADVICE that they are kept indoors

LOL @ you lot !! I will get pics put up this afternoon i promise.

Any ideas how he came to be at the vets Sharon ?
The lady at foal was gutted that he had been tested and couldnt understand why they did that as he didnt fit any criteria to suggest he would be positive! she said it was a shame as he would now be subjected to a life indoors which is such a shame !

He really is a lovely cat and i'm sure he wont stay long at Foal

Well done for all of you doing the Paddy rely to Foal Farm. Michelle your a star. I will be emailing Debbie as well to thank her. Debs was great as i only rang her up as she was a person that took two of our cats a few months ago and happened to live in Ashford!

Debbie mentioend that the vet who saw Paddy got overruled about having him chipped, but did it anyhows and paid for it himself so no one got in trouble..

I am told he took a real shine to him but with other 5 cats couldnt take him on... he was very grateful though and i think he got overuled on not having him PTS in the first place hence why we got to here about him..

A million thanks and headbuts to you all.

Oh my goodness what a lovely lovely cat !!

All went well today, He had a long day but behaved himself really well.
He is a large tabby with beautiful eyes and very cuddly.
I dont know the story behind him but i cant believe someone isnt missing him.

He settled in well at Foal and is in the FIV house with 3 other FIV cats, they are hoping he teams up with one of them so he can be homed in a pair.

Before I took him up to Foal he came back home with Me for 20mins, He wasnt bothered with my cats and they thought he was great lol

I took a couple of pics and will post them tomorrow
