I think he will Desley, Im sure that OH scared him half to death by telling him she could catch all sorts of diseases and even die giving birth. OH thinks that hes not a really bad person hust extremely ignorant. We will be keeping an eye out to see if he is keeping his word.

Hi all, sorry I havnt been arounnd but my big tabby boy Charlie had a horrific accident yesterday (I have aked for positive thoughts on health and bevaiour)

Some positive news for Meeka - while we were out looking for Charlie yeterday Ahole boyfriend who is now staying with the people who are looking after her came and helped look for Charlie, he apologised for giving us hassle a while ago and we had a long chat with him, I explained all the dangers she is facing and he has promised to keep her in and best of all he is going to get her spayed next week.

I remember that story and we never did find out the final decision, did we? It was also used as an example in the RSPCA bashing era. However, if you remember it was not just a case of a cat lost and found it was far more complicated and in all honesty I know many people thought the cat better off if it were not given back.

I know somewhere I have read or been told that there is one of these long forgotten old laws (as previously posted) where you can claim back for 6 or 7 yrs. I would hope though that no one would use this if they had lost the cat years ago and then found out it was now it was well cared for, happy and settled in another home. Microchipping would save a lot of problems when claiming a cat.

This thing of a cat as a possesion has been discussed both on Cat Chat and here before, cant remember the outcome cos it seemed to change every post.

Bbut do remember that there was fairly recently a case of a cat taken in by RSPCA and rehomed in days who had an owner and although they could prove it was their cat, the new owners would not give it up although only they had only just received it and RSPCA refused to let the owners have it back.

A few years ago CP HQ provided every branch in the country with a chip reader and gave every branch the opportunity to have as many people trained to chip as they liked. Even now a branch only has to ask and HQ will arrange for chip training. HQ instruction say every cat must be signed in via the official HQ acceptance form.

Absolutely agree it is a big no no accepting cats that have been borrowed. I make it very clear on the phone that I can only accept a stray once the finder has tried the various methods we suggest to find an owner. (A sick cat of course is treated differently and taken to a vet immediately).

This is why chipping is so useful. What better way to establish ownership?

Our CP immediately chips any cat that comes into our care. Where ever possible, we get the person reporting to sign the acceptance form. When someone reports a stray cat, we will take it in but always try to get them to sign. That way, if there's an owner, we acted in good faith after recieving reports of hardship and whatever happens to the cat in our care is for the cat's best interest and within our constitution. Neutering is a cornerstone of CPs philosophy and any cat coming into our care will be neutered as a matter of urgency.

Cats are still classed as possessions, along with any other kind of animal. Neutering of an animal in full knowledge of the fact it belongs to someone else may be classed as criminal damage.

There are several ways a cat can dissappear.

Sometimes certain CPs have been known to do an inter branch exchange with other branches many, many miles away...

Not that our CP would ever condone or take part in such a thing.

I understand that in law if you can prove a cat is yours you can claim it back for 6 or 7 yrs, can't remember which.

So the law allows you to sue someone for neutering your cat, but doesn't allow you to claim your cat back if it 'moves in' to someone else's house because technically a cat can't be owned???? Thats just double standards that is!!!!

But that is why many vets would insist the cats are signed in at the time of the op. I think it would be an advantage if the cat wonders off

TBH I really can't see you being arrested for this act - if you take her to a rescue and any police do call, simply say you couldn't be sure if it was his cat, and seeing as he has been threatening to you in the past you decided to let a rescue deal with it rather than you so that you didn't put yourself at risk of any physical or verbal abuse. The police have lots of real crimes to deal with - he can't sue you either as it isn't you who has done the spaying is it!

Apart from the neutering/spaying issues which i totally agree with, this little girl is in danger wandering about outside, it wont be long before someone realises shes a bengal or (being the highly energetic little bundles they are) she gets herself into trouble.

Sheryl, more than happy to help with this one, one option may be to call the bengal cat rescue and tell them you found her

Alternatively I have some contacts in the bengal world who might just 'help' her run away!

I don't think there's any point talking to the BF. He doesn't sound particularly reasonable to me.

And anyway: what's the proof that this IS their cat? As far as you know, you've just seen a little cat straying. If she were to come into your house for a feed and a rest, there's no harm done. And you'd not be responsible for where she went when she left you. Would you?

I'd love a bengal. Especially a snow bengal. Particularly a blue-eyed snow bengal. They are just so gorgeous.

Although I sort of agree, the bottom line is this cat.

Is it possible you could advise him (or perhaps you already have):- Benefits of Spaying (females):
No heat cycles, therefore males will not be attracted.
Less desire to roam
Risk of mammary gland tumors, ovarian and/or uterine cancer is reduced or eliminated. Even one season increases the chance of cancer later in life. So indoors cats need spaying also. Cats & dogs will not acquire pyometra a life threatening infection & it reduces the risk of feline aids and leukaemia which s rife in our area.
Reduces the number of unwanted cats/kittens and dogs/puppies
Helps dogs and cats live 3 – 5 YEARS LONGER, healthier lives.

If you want to go down the line of paying for the cat I would buy it although it is something I do not like to encourage, (depending on price of course). I am sure I could re-home it.

We went for a wander over the field last night and pretended we were calling our Charlie but didnt see her, no sign this morning either so will have another look tonight.

OH has suggested we approach the Asshole B/F and offer to buy her but TBH I dont think he would go for it and funds are a bit tight at the moment, will let you all know if i see her tonight.

Hi, We are just off the A1 between Grantham & Stamford in Lincs - the field that she is playing in is quite close to the A1 which is a worry - a biger worry is that we found out last night
that the nieghbours who live 2 doors away from where she is staying has got 2 "complete" toms.

Why don't you get someone else to get it and take it straight up to a rescue and say they found it straying. Then as long as shes not chipped they can spay her and there is nothing the owner can do. and also its nothing to do with you so if he comes to your door just say well I am not surpised she has gone missing shes a ped cat that should be indoors you were asking for trouble letting her out. Then if he does ring round to try and find her which I very much doubt the rescue can say yes she was brought in and is recovering well from being spayed.
