So what is the procedure then if a cat tests positive?

Our branch of CP have a FIV unit see it on out Gallery  on www.chesterfieldcats.co.uk. I know a few other CP branches and certainly on shelter also have FIV facilities. Some branches just keep them in normal pens until a home can be found. Unfortunately I have no ideal what others do. I do know what the RSPCA do or at least ours but that is not for me to say. We used to take them but they won't let us have them now.

Why are the Blue Cross insisting on this test anyway?

The RSPCA  (our local branch anyway) and Cats Protection cats that go to CP HQ shelters are all tested, also some CP branches have all cats tested as soon as they come in, albeit at the expense of the charity.

Update:

The stray has had a blood test and he's clear  :yayyy:  :yayyy:  He will be going to the Blue Cross on Monday but they said if anyone in the meantime can offer him a home, that would be fab.  She said he's absolutely gorgeous and really loveable  :Luv:  :Luv:

Do we know the Blue Cross's policy on any postive test results?

I have had a couple of offers of placements for this little man if it's not sorted.

Ron, a lady in Brighton has a 6 year old female and would be happy to take on another if you've got one that will get on with her.  Let me know and I'll give you the details.

I am glad this little one will get a chance, just odd that Blue Cross expect the test to be done - do they not take in strays that will be untested? And lets face it, if they isolate cats when they first come in, it gives the results chance to come back with no risk to any of their other cats.

I wish the poor little cat had come to me, all this fuss, i would have sorted the poor little cat out, and he would have been in safe hands, I might be wrong but I dont trust vets anymore.

I just cannot believe the vets are charging such an expensive amount for FELV testing.. Really!!
I would be taking the poor mite to another vet, getting him tested (why indeed is it an issue) and then move him on...

These vets seem less then helpful i would say and the rescue organisation involved could do no worse then not use them....

Hopefully Blue Cross do take him but Bournemouth CP is paying over the odds to help out, good on them! But such funds are not easy to come by...

Good news. Bournemouth CP have spoken to the vets to confirm they will pay for the FIV/FeLV test. If all is good, the cat will be going to Blue Cross.

What about CP HQ at Haywards Heath, surely that would have some room and wouldnt necessarily need the FELV testing doing.. Anyone rang them...

Anyone know whats happening ?

Nope, had a PM about an hour ago asking which train station, to which I have replied. So unless CB is calling around to see who can do what to get the boy to the station, I have no idea what is happening. Dying to know as I would be terribly excited to have my very first cat rescue on the score card ...

Sorry hunnies been at clients

I def would pay the felv and fiv tests would very much hate to give any money to those  :censored: vets but will do if it saves this lad. The owner is truley awful. I changed my vet cause of what he did to my Ben and the practice on the whole didn't do for Rio when he was little. I have never been there for 3 years and won't go to that  :censored: practice again. I use a fantastic one further away.

Anyone know whats happening ?

It may be a little late for the vet (though surely they would wait if they had a definite solution) but I am going to Isle of Wight on Friday and can take a cat cage with me if they can transport the cat to the railway station. I can keep in a spare room at my place if someone can get up to chatham to collect and take to Brighton. I have litter tray, bed and all such items and can keep separate from my babes in case of FIV issues. Let me know if I can help by PM. Can't let my namesake down.

Have had a look on Blue Cross - doesn't mention any policy on FIV/FELV cats, only in health bits says that neutering can help to reduce the possibility of catching FIV ('an incurable disease')

Also have trawled through their 131 cats for rehoming on the site and none of them are positive

I hope somewhere can be found for the little man

i hate to even mention this but what is Blue Crosses policy on FIV etc, if by some extreme bad luck this poor mite turns out positive? Sorry for even thinking this but just had to write it down...

Then we'll have to get somewhere else for him  :tired:

Another thing to consider and suggest is if the Vet Nurses club together to pay for it, - do they not get staff discount?  The vet cannot be so callous as to not let them have it at staff rates.

Tan, have you got enough in my cage fund to pay for this - I would rather it went to a needy cause like this, if nobody who's donated would mind.

Or if Tan will shift the money from that collection to pay for this until tomorrow when my OH get's paid.

This was the same situation as poor Jesiri , no one to pay the bill. At least they could of sorted out his teeth... How can they expect a rescue to do that as well as take them on... The vets should be ashamed of themselves.... !!

Probably cost more to put him to sleep then treat him i say..

Blue Cross have said they will take him but they want an FIV/Felv these done first, which they won't pay for. The vet won't do one for nothing and the cost is £52!!

If transport can be sorted but it will have to be quick, I have a space in our local rescue that they are holding for me......if that will help, he can go there.
