Very few people get offered hot drinks at mine as I dont touch them, so generally dont have milk in the house. And I dont have biscuits in most of the time either, as a full pack is too much for me on my own.

Do you mean the houses where you have to wipe your feet when you come out? I must say though that what I have often found in those types of homes is an abundance of love and they don’t seem to mind if a cat wants to sleep on the furniture.

The fosterers just cant do other peoples as well, some work full time and the others are already doing at least a 12 hour days with all that rescue entails, trapping, taking cats to vets for people who cannot be bothered etc. Recently Donna had a neighbour who could not drive foster, however, the demands on her where just too great e. g Donna would just get back from the vets and the neighbour would want a cat taking to the vet. Fortunately the neighbour is having all her home altered and will not be fostering after today.

There are houses where you are glad they don't offer tea. There was a house I collected a cat from last week that I would have chosen dehydration over drinking tea there

and yes we've lost out (to CP!) by someone not phoning quick enough - still as much as it annoys, at least 2 cats still got a nice new home.

blumin' eck if we didn't take on fosterers who didn't drive we'd be down to 2 fosterers, Mind you it is a pain sometimes having to drive back and forth with supplies, trips to vets, home visits and new cats.

I am afraid if someone volunteers to be a home checker we do ask that they have transport because as you have found relying on a lift does not always work out.

We also don't take on fosterer's who have no transport as no one else has the time to do all the fetching and carrying that fosterers need to do. e.g food, litter, constant vet visits often at at stupid o'clock and taking the cats out to their new home.

Good Luck with home check I had a case of the wobbles when I was waiting on mine. Did offer tea, but it was refused, I was also told to put kettle on for visitors, but my friends now come in and say 'NO before I even open my mouth now

It's not necessarily the biccie aspect that's important, but if you do decide to supply them, can I suggest a good quality Rich Tea so as to avoid melted choccie on the pinkies in our sudden 4 days of summer?

It never accured to me to just outright ask. I must remember to do that.

I suppose some folks are nervous, and of course it doesn't effect the outcome of the check, but it is one of those pleasantries you tend to look for.

My mum even had a special set of china reserved for visitors. We weren't allowed to touch it.

The way round this is when you are nearly there, give them a ring and tell them to get the kettle on, coffee, 2 sugars.....it works for me

I think T was horrified the other night, I know it wasn't a homecheck but when we were trying to sort the ferals out, I asked the security guard if he could do us a drink.......he brought me a glass of water which I kindly refused and told him I wanted a cuppa

He promptly came back with 2 cups of tea for myself and Teresa

Not done a home check or ever had one.

But being from the US I still get a bit uneasy about the whole offering a cup of tea to folks.

In the heat we'd always offer folks a drink but tea and biscuts just seems so odd. Plus I'm rubbish at making tea and we can only use creamer. So never ask me for tea

I've done quite a few home checks this week, and i was wondering whether other HC people have the same experiences as me?

I find I get offered a cup of tea around 50% of the time. In those homes I do get tea, only 25% offer biscuits as well. But the Vicar taking our Josh did give me Tesco's Finest choccie bickies so that does restore the tea/biscuits disparity.

But what I do find irksome is the places I seem to travel furthest to don't concider the fact. Today I drove a 60 mile round trip and I didn't even get a glass of water.

Of course, I'm not complaining as it's all about the best thing for the cats... but Mum always taught me that as soon as a visitor comes to the house, you put the kettle on.
