Fingers crossed for him today, and I have always used fragrance free baby wipes, much easier than a damp flannel

yes, I think you recommended those to me too, thanks they have been very good

Hope Memphis can come home today and he's much better x

Den, just dropping by to say have sent a few reiki thoughts Memphis's way and sending you both cuddles this morning.

Thank you means a lot. He's definitely going to need those hugs today. Yesterday he got off scott free because they didn't need to touch him so he got left alone. However, today he needs all his tubes removed, so he's going to be sedated (luckily for the vets they can put it in his IV and avoid touching him) but he still won't like it  :scared:

I'm guessing they will ask me to put him in his carrier to avoid losing a finger or four  I'm also really hoping he settles down quickly at home and I get my old Memphis back. He should definitely be home today because they don't want him over the weekend  :evillaugh:

I have a question if anyone knows the answer.

Because he pulled the tube off of the catheter he is dripping urine and has gotten it all over himself. I was thinking maybe baby wipes would be good to clean and freshen him up to make him feel a bit better in himself. No doubt he will have a huge wash himself (I could tell today he's desperate to get clean), was just thinking about giving him a bit of help.

So baby wipes .. yay or nay?

Yep, I use them on my old boy Schui all the time, advised by my vet as he suffers bad sinus problems, snotty runny nose etc which gets all over his tail and feet and really dries on (sorry).  I've used many different types any suitable for babies, the last lot I bought from Tescos were Johnsons and it was BOGOF

I used to use the fragrance free baby wipes on all my pets. Never had a problem.  If I didn't have any then a damp flannel

I've seen those wipes .. PAH is quite a long walk (especially with todays weather) simply for wipes ... but I guess my baby is definitely worth it  :Luv:

They do pet cleansing wipes at Pets at Home, Jollyes etc.  I think a damp flannel wrung out would do the trick too.

Not sure to be honest - would they leave a soapy taste behind when he goes to wash himself???

Maybe some warm water might be a bit better?

That was I was wondering. Didn't know whether to use the baby wipes to get the grime off then a damp cloth to wipe away any residue. I was leaning towards warm water but don't know how well it does with urine in fur. I am open to any ideas.

Ahhh poor Memphis ... no wonder he looks sad and is a bit grumpy ... I think I'd be grumpy if I had a catheter and had to wear a lampshade  :(

Get well soon Memphis mate xxx

I'm sure they have tested his urine PH .. they've not mentioned it to me, but I didn't get to speak to the vet today.

When it happened with Ben I think he ate the prescription food for about 2 meals and that was it he refused! That was when I changed all the cats over to raw diet/high meat content wet foods, and very little dry (literally a few at bedtime or as treats)

The prescription diets contain salt to encourage them to drink more - the thing is if you feed a wet diet anyway they have sufficient moisture.

If you try the urinary prescritpion diet and find he doesnt like it - you could always ask your vet about using a urine acidifier - it means he can eat his normal food with the acidifier added to it (thats always supposing it was a struvite blockage) If not struvite then acidifier wouldnt be suitable. Presume they've tested his urine to see what the pH is etc?

No water fountain, he drinks from the dogs water bowl .. I always see him drink so it's really not something I've worried about. Memphis looooooooves his biscuits so that will be very difficult  :scared: He doesnt eat a lot so the extra calories in the dry do a lot for him.

The vets nurse was mentioning stress so in his mind something was wrong and he was holding in his urine etc. He's really not been noticeably stressed so everyone is at a loss as to what caused this. If he was stressed I have no idea over what .. nothing has changed  :-: I'm thinking this will be one of those mystery things.

They are very thankful he came in straight away because most of the ones they have come in are too far gone and don't make it  :'(

Oh Den, I can't see your pics, but blimey Memphis sounds like Jess, he wouldn't eat I had to hand feed him, he also wouldn't wee till I arrived.

Do you feel better for seeing him?

I do thank you. Just feel bad because I would love to take him home ... he hates it there with a passion and I'm sure the vets nurses are all playing rocks, paper sissors to see who is the poor soul that has to deal with him  :evillaugh: It was very odd to see him like that actually because he is the soppiest thing in the world who wouldn't hurt a fly  :-:

One thing I'm worried about is they did mention putting him on urinary food for the forseeable future ... now I would hate to do that as it means he get's no variety. I'm kind of like, I know I have to but it's not something I want to do. His health/future health is the most important thing though.

Jess was on this from March to October, and I'll be honest it was the hardest thing in the world. He was really good to start with, he'd eat it. Come the summer he got really fuss and would only eat if I hand fed him. We always made sure we alternated the food though so he got some variety, it also meant no biscuits which was really hard as Jess is a massive biscuit fan. I found it heart breaking. Jess was constantly trying to eat Milo's food.

However it doesn't mean forever, and after a while Memphis may come off of it.

Have you got a water fountain? Might be worth thinking about if you don't

Oh dear  :scared: I ended up going around apologising to everyone, he's really grumpy. I walked in and he was growling, grumbling, hissing, teeth showing etc. They've told me he just won't let anyone near him  :scared: He launched at Alan the vet who is now covered in Memphis claw marks  you should see the back of his right hand it looks soooooo painful  :scared:

I opened the kennel door and he was as sweet as anything  He is very unhappy and everytime someone in green walks past he growls. Memphis wasn't eating anything, but I convinced him to eat it from my hand .. he devoured his food, he was so hungry. At one point he was eating from my hand whilst keeping an [evil] eye on a vet nurse who was across the room. When the room was empty he got up wandered all the way to the edge of his kennel and was having a good nosey around the room.

He has pulled the catheter tube off so he's dripping wee everywhere, my poor boy is looking very naked with a large patch of shaved fur

He's not coming home today  :(

They want to keep him in for observation, make sure he's passing urine/eating and not in any pain. Apparently my sweet natured innocent boy is very grumpy and he's not letting anyone near him  :innocent: so they are letting me go in and see him to see if I can give him some comfort .. so off to get ready and have a slow walk there. Will update on everything when I get back.

The vet is probably just busy with morning surgery.

Come on Mr Vet hurry up,doesnt he realise he's treating the Purrs Champion there?  We demand a call NOW :mad2: :mad2:

Too right.  We'll set the army on him!

I agree  :evillaugh:
You'll probably find You will get a call after morning surgery

And off the top of my head I think that is around 11 or 11:30 .. just had a look at their fancy new website (which I didn't know they had ) and it doesn't say their times. they say midday is the end of morning surgery.

Our vets have an option number for inpatients where you speak directly to a nurse who will update you whenever. I guess I assumed all vets had the same.
