If it encourages americans not to declaw then im all for it, theres a humane society poster in the background who is probably organising it  :-:  If people learn to care for their pets properly its less ending up neglected, none of those cats looked stressed, as julie said they seem alot happier than some cat show participants.
I also dont see the problem with teaching cats tricks, they are indoor cats so whats then harm in a little more one on one, something extra for them to occupy the day with afterall. I started clicker training milly, doesnt mean im trying to turn her into a dog!!

It sounded to me like she said 40 claw trims a day (4 cats!!!) and 80 a day when doing back paws as well!!!! Ihope I misheard as that's 5 lots of trims per cat a day- highly steressful and completely pointless... saying that if she sadi 4 and 8, it's still bad!

I agreed with the first bit of the vid about people finding out how to care for a cat but the whole agility sde of things- What the :censored:! If you want a dog, go and get a dog... It all seems rather crazy to me.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with people being taught how to care for their cats - how to groom and clip claws (if they're bothered about that), and all of that.

But the things the woman was talking about sounded like she wanted to make them into feline dogs.

And that's just not right.

I like the idea of people actually learning about the cat care... and some cats enjoy learning too

Indy picks up new tricks every 5 minutes and we have sit, beg, lie down, tummy (roll onto back) and paw (shake hands) down pat, Misha on the other hand couldn't give a monkeys.

My vets do a kitten socialisation group, for indoor kitties. They set it up as it helps the cats get used to the vets as a nice place and also so the cats, which normally lead a fairly insular life, don't get stressed when meeting others as easily, people in the group have said that compaired to cats they had in the past, ones that go to the class are happier when going to catteries etc as not as fazed by the strange cats being near.

In all things I think it could be silly and done in a stupid way, but I do like how a big thing seemed to be basic care tips (though clipping every day!?) and the grooming was kinda pitiful but we don't know if that was their first session learning... I liked the fact that the kittens had a lot of play and free session there, lotsa toys :)

After seeing what can happen when some cats coats are neglected, I am actually in favour of classes teaching people how to do it. As for nail trimming, well I've never done it because I don't care about my furniture, yet I know people who actually cart their cats off to the vet to have it done. Wouldn't it be less stressful if you were taught to do it properly at home? I also doubt anyone would clip every nail every day, but if you clip one nail each day, you desensitise the cat from having it done.  :shy:

I've also seen people walking cats on leads and harnesses. CP actually encourages people to do it when introducing a new cat to the outdoors.

Cats are intelligent animals and can find stimulation in certain tasks and often do things for us to gain a reaction from us, don't they? They know how to ask us for food, to be let out, to play... They've gained this knowledge by repeated responses to previous behaviour. Isn't this training by another name?  :innocent:

I think you should approach these things with an open mind, quite frankly. I didn't see any signs of cats looked distressed.. no more so than the average Cat Fancy Show at any rate.  :shy:

Shame on the BBC for saying that in the UK, keeping cats indoors is only done if absolutely necessary  >:( - They even called CP "Cats Protection League" the Beeb certainly has gone downhill over the years.

Yes she did!  :Crazy: there wouldnt be anything left to trim by day 3 LOL!

It was a bit like puppy socialisation classes they have here - our vet practice holds classes. But do they not get the fact that cats arent flippin dogs?!!!
