Title: Sabby's not well :(
Post by: Catjane on September 02, 2007, 20:23:22 PM
His normally voracious appetite has vanished, I can't even tempt him with mackerel or treats :(  He seems really sleepy, and doesn't want me to move him at all, though he doesn't appear to be injured.

The vet says that it doesn't sound like an emergency, and to keep an eye on him, and bring him in tomorrow if he's no better.  Wish I knew what it was that's making him poorly :(

poor you, have you noticed anything else weird about him/her, like not wanting to go out, not using the litter tray or anything? Keep an eye on him and call the vet again if you notice any deterioriation, Thinking of you

Ah hun - keep an eye on him - maybe hes just had a busy day playing and things and will be hungry later this evening?

Give him headbutts from my lot.

Thank you :)  Nothing else strange about him, cept he's usually quite a bouncy cat and his bounce has disappeared :(  He was out in the rain when I got back this evening (although he usually likes the rain anyway), but gave me only half his usual exuberant head-butt.  He complained when I carried him in, but that's nothing new.  But then showed no interest in his tea or anything, and promptly curled up on the speaker and started dozing.  He hasn't used the litterbox since he's come in for the night, and hasn't been sick.  I hate seeing my little jumping bean so lethargic :(

try to think positively, maybe he's picked up a bug or eaten something thats upset him and made him feel yucky.
If he's not touching food and is still ethargi tomorrow i'd phone them first thing and get him booked in.
Poor little furbaby it's naff when you feel ill isn't it.

Merlin and Missy send purrs and furbaby rubs and nudges.

Hopefully its nothing. All cats have theoccasional ofday just like us. Even my big fat kylie has days where she won't eat. As has been said, keep an eye but it doesn't sound like anything you need to worry about too much

I would definately take him to the vets first thing tomorrow unless there has been a big change.

Dont want to worry you but when Kocka was like this I rushed her to the vets during the night and she was put striaght on a drip and spent a week in hospital with an unspecified blood infection. They thought she had FIV but all tests were negative on everything.

Do hope that Sabby feels loads better quickly but when a cat suddenly becomes apathetic I think the vet is needed.

I would get him straight in first thing in the morning, cats are really good at hiding illnesses and usually when they do, they are ill.  I hope he makes a quick recovery and it's nothing serious,

Sabby's off to the vet in half an hour.  He seemed perkier this morning, and ate a little, so I put him in my bedroom with grub and water and litter, but when I got home just now he hadn't eaten a thing :(  He's still quite quiet, though a little more lively than last night, and full of head rubs for his mum.  Poor little mite - he hates disruptive things like going to the vet - I know he's gonna fight me when I put him in the carrier!  Wish us luck guys!

Well it was a bit of a struggle getting him in the carrier, bless him!  He has a slight temperature, but the vet felt it best just to keep an eye on him as there's no sign of a stomach upset, and the vet wasn't able to detect any bites or anything.  Sabby still hasn't eaten anything tho :(

Thanks for your support guys  :)

Sabby STILL hasn't eaten anything, so it's another day for him in my bedroom instead of outside with his mum and auntie.

He's being extraordinairily affectionate - not sure if that's a good or bad thing.... although it's lovely to get big rubbies and purrs from my little boy.

YAY!  He's just eaten SIX treats!  Yeah yeah, I know that 5 is supposed to be the daily limit, but anything I can get down him now is good enough for me, given that he has barely eaten since Saturday.  He still won't touch his regular food, but at least it's a start :)

That's good news  ;D  Have you tried Sabby on some cat milk?  Its a form of food so might be good to get some of that down as well?

Yeah, tried that last night - no go unfortunately :(

I've just managed to hand-feed him just two pieces of regular cat food ... WHOOPEEEE!!  Spose that's all he can manage right now, given that his little tummy must have shrunk quite a bit.

I'm glad he's eaten something  ;D  Perhaps that will stimulate his appetite and he will start eating properly again.

Sabby worried me yesterday morning by not eating a THING, but he managed some chicken at lunchtime, and at teatime when I let him downstairs with the girls he couldn't wait for his wet food, and began to tuck into the dry!!  Then when I was preparing their tea, he sat in his usual spot waiting for it to be ready!  :)  He's also done a good-sized wee, which suggests that he's not dehydrated so it's WOOOO! all round!  I still have no idea what caused the little pickle to get sick, but he's better now, and waiting patiently by the catflap for me to let him out!  ;D

Thanks for all your support, guys! :)  Sabby sends flying rubbies and a big bounce!
