Title: Hello from Northumberland
Post by: Borderreiver on November 21, 2010, 21:05:57 PM
I'm a new member here so would like to say 'hello'. I live on a smallholding in Northumberland with ponies, dogs, hens, ducks and of course cats.

Cats have always been part of my life as we always had at least one at home when I was little and I have continued on from first married days till the present.

Last year sadly we lost all three of our oldies, my favourite feisty ginger boy William, who had extra toes. He had sudden heart failure at age 16. Then our old stager Flossie a black and white girl we had since a 6 week kitten, died in her sleep age 23. Lastly tortie Twiglet, blind and failing, was pts after 19 years.

So a catless gap until September when it was time for a new cat to fill a big space in our lives. I looked at cats for rehome on the internet, I saw some at a local rescue, I waited for the right one to come along. Then I saw a picture of a lovely black boy at a local rescue and enquired but he was homed. A week later I went to visit another of their charges with his foster mum, a long haired black tom, about 6 months old. What a gorgeous boy! Totally smitten I agreed to have him, but wanted to wait a week as had to be away for a couple of days.

A week later I went to collect Merlin, and came home with two black kitties! Malachi, a newly rescued short hair black kitten only a couple of months old had teamed up with Merlin who was looking after him and making sure his ears were washed. So I just had to have them both! They are truly some of the nicest cats I've ever had, total joy.

:welcome: to Purrs and glad you found us  :)

Very sorry to hear of your sad losses this year but happy to hear all three had long happy lives especially age 23 is a good old age for Flossie

We have 7 here, 4 of whom are black and one of them a long haired little chap aged 5 months called Groucho.  I imagaine he looks a little like Merlin but will only see when we get pics  :innocent:

Welcome Borderriever - love the name!! So glad you have some new babes to fill the gap in your life. It is always sad when we lose one of our babies, but to lose three in quick succession must have been devastating...

You have arrived at the start of our annual auction - if you spot something you fancy, feel free to bid. The funds raised will be supporting one of our favourite rescues.

Hiya Borderreiver   :welcome:

Just bin admiring the wonderful piccies of your new babies - aren't they fab?  :wow:  Love the one of Malachi in front of the stove - and of them snuggling up together.

So pleased you posted the piccies - they show just how alike Groucho and Merlin are  :evillaugh:  Must be the tails!   :Luv:

Hello, im new too

A 23 year old cat is truly amazing, when i lived at home we had a cat called whiskey and she was around that age when she died.

Im sure the oldest cat every was 25 (not sure where i read that)

Im weird when it comes to cats as i only ever get them as kittens and at 2 months ish old they dont tend to have too much personality (except my Merse) so i always go for nice colours but when i was looking for kittens i said absolutly no black ones and now white ones, people think im wierd for saying that but ive known many many cats and almost every time the all blakc or all white ones were grumpy and ginger ones the most friendly

Well I love gingers too but have had many cats over the years and a good cat is never a bad colour in my opinion, to borrow a phrase from the horse world.
Here's my gorgeous Ginger boy Will, sadly no longer with us:

Yep we've had mainly black cats and they've all been so loving, no gingers either.
