As most of us know it is a good idea for cats to have grass, It aids their digestion and can help to cats to cough up furballs (nice). Free grass seed for plant pots is available if you send a SAE to their HQ.
-
Who's HQ Ela? :evillaugh:
I just bought some the other day in woolies - BOGOF
-
What do you do when your cat refuses to eat grass... I have had all sorts in the house for Lexy and she just ignores it...
-
I wouldn't worry about it. Jaffa has never eaten grass in his life - just never been interested. Magpie used to love it though and he had problems with hairballs so it was like he knew it was good for him ;D Grass is useful for them but if they don't want it fair enough.
-
Thats good. At least I know she's ok then. If not a defurrum will work.

Pass.
I always remember when we first had Badger and he used to peee in the same spot on the lawn, eventually that spot went bare, I threw a couple of handfuls of the CP grass which is Bananasfoot (see next message) grass, a big mistake it is more course than lawn grass and seems to grow very quickly. At least I can pick some for the cats and place a bit fresh in cat dishes. Also if cats come into the garden they seem to make for that spot.
Bananasfoot (see next message) grass seems to be a flavour that many cats like. It is a natural medicine for relieving bile and sourness and its action, as an emetic, often means the of inducing the vomiting of hairballs

Bananasfoot grass,
Oh I have a problem I am assuming certain words cannot be accepted as when I type the name of the grass and try to save the above comes up. So the name of the grass is Coc :censored: foot and where the censored bit is it ks.

:evillaugh:

Exactly Mark in fact double :evillaugh: :evillaugh:. It took me a minute or two to think what to do, at first I thought Mum had got on the keyboard and was messing around.

Awwww :Luv:
Ours ate the grass so vigorously it went right down to stubs in the soil!

I used to get those little tubs of cat grass to grow for mine and one thought Id ask at the local garden centre if you could buy the seeds as I would then put them in a big tub to grow them. Sadly to poor girl got very confused and ended up trying to sell me turf squares so I could grass over my balcony
Now I dont have any out door access at all and as the cats never ate the grass anyway I have to rely on indoor cat and hairball biscuits
love

i Didnt know they had to have access to grass
should i start buying some then ?

As preciously advised you can get the seed (the type cats like) free from Cats Protection HQ, It would be nice if you send a SAE to them.

Tab, you can buy the seeds in somewhere like Homebase (or of course get them from CP as Ela said) - they are with the seeds for veg, etc all on little hooks - thats where I got ours - 60p for LOADS! we still have loads in a drawer :)
Ours are indoor too but they ate it out of a little planter - we used to leave it on the window sill (one of the ones they didnt go on) until it got long enough for them to eat - doesnt take long!
defurrum works well too though, ours love those!
-
I got cat grass from Woolworths this week. You get loads in a pack for £1.60 and it's BOGOF at the moment - it's on the rack with all the other seeds. the Brand is "Mr Fothergill's". I think cat grass is the wider stuff. When I give willow grass from the garden, it's quite fine and sometimes she doesn't upchuck with it :evillaugh:
-
the problems with them eating grass or leaves..they then come in and hack it up all over your floor >:(

Or it gets stuck in their noses like my coworkers cat did, cost her £300 to have a blade of grass removed.
Thankfully my Lirael can't stand grass, or anything remotely dirty.
-
BOGOF
Is that like Bananafoot grass but different?
-
all of ours love their grass(see avatar)seriously though we have all sorts of grass in the garden and they all love it. :wow:
and on the last post ginger vincent used to get grass stuck up his nose as he used to snort while eating it. :-[
-
LOL dawn..sorry not laughing at your panic but yes cats tongues come WAY out..when you intubate them you have to fully pull out the tongue.
also the foamy stuff you spoke of is common if they have something in or around the top of their trachea stuck.
I too have known a fair few cats with grass blades stuck, they can get lodged underneath the soft palate and the cat just cant get rid of it so they need a ga and us to gently get it out..howver given the hundreds of thousands of cats that eat grass im sure most of them are ok.

Ela were you being funny ?
dont believe for a minute you were being serious
