Lovely to hear how she's getting on, Emmy-lou.  I guess she must be happy enough with you in her own way, or I suspect you'd know about it by now  ;)  I think Evie's healing will be as much to her psyche as to her physical self.

just to let you know I did look into acupunture and massage.

The acupuncture verdict was it might help but they didn't know if it would help or not!

The massage contact Onyx gave me sounded promising, but Evies leg has improved a lot in the last 3 weeks or so - she even jumps up on our 6ft. fence now!

she walks a lot better and hopefully will continue to improve.

She still isn't the most friendliest of cats, but she is sweet in her own little way!

 :Luv:

:evillaugh:  I'd be hissing and a bit P**d off too, I suspect.  I think acupuncture is a good idea.  I know from personal experience and having been a little sceptical initially, that it had a positive effect on my own back pain when I had a trapped nerve and frozen shoulder.  not quite the same as having had the nerve nicked by a suture, but it may work.

I know its not the ideal outcome after everything she's had done. Onyx is going to give me the details of someone who does animal massage and I might look into acupuncture etc to see if they might help her.

How she will cope is another thing cos she can be a little  :censored: !!! The vet said 'she seems much happier, she hasn't been hissing and growling so much today!'

She is all mouth tho  :evillaugh:

Bless Evie - she hasnt had the best of times of late has she?  And yet, she is much loved by you, and has a great home now, so it's good to take the positives from all of this.  Am hoping that given time, Evie's nerve damage will heal and the effects will lessen.

Evie has been in the vets all day. I picked her up at 4 but the vet has only just rung. she said she isn't in pain and the damage was probably caused by one of the sutures. She spoke to a neuro specialist who said he would just leave it as if they tried to rectify it it may not work, and more damage could be caused. it's her femoral nerve that's damaged.

It might improve over the next couple of months,  but I doubt that as in three weeks it doesn't seem to have got any better at all!  :(

So I might try and get her a position in the ministry of silly walks!

Yes, I drop her off first thing tomorrow. She's the same as far as we can see.

I should of said before it was either the op or the infection which could of caused it, but it was definitely the op.... I remember almost crying when I saw her do it when she first came home, she looked such a state anyway the poor thing  :'(

Will let you know what they say tomorrow  :thanks:

I think if she is bombimg about and not in pain there is no way amputaion will come into it.

Write a list of uestions for the specialist and put it in the carrier, I mean keep it in carrier cos minds go blank when stressed

The specialist has been really good actually, the actual vet rang after her infection to make sure I was managing to give her her meds and rang tonight to change her review to this Tuesday so that will stop me worrying for another week!

She said that Evie will be in for a few hours while they do some tests and from what she said she will be either left like that,  or they may be able to loosen some stitches. Poor thing has been through so much in only a year  :(

I've no experience of such things but would have throught amputation sounds a bit drastic from how you describe her  Was the follow up appointment at the normal vets or at the specialists?

Hi Ems.  Am so sorry to hear Evie 's still having difficulty, bless her.  Did the vet say what they thought might have caused the nerve damage?  She's got some spirit, I'll say that for her.  Sending her a gentle ear rub and a snoozer. X x

possible nerve damage?
« Reply #1 on: February 26, 2014, 20:30:08 PM »
We decided to adopt Evie about a month ago after fostering and knowing that she would probably need another hernia operation with a specialist after the first couldn't be repaired by a regular vet.

She had this done three weeks ago now, got an infection which has been updated, but she is left with a limp. Her hind leg on the side she has the op kind of collapses with each step?

On Tuesday at her review appointment the vet suggested it might be nerve damage and is going to review her again in two weeks time. It doesn't seem to be improving, although she has no problem bombing around the house like a lunatic!!! She can't jump as high as she used to before. has anyone had experience of this -  how long could it take to improve,  and if it doesn't would they leave the leg or amputate it?  :(

I know I should of asked at the time, but you don't start thinking of these things til afterwards - well I don't anyway!

I wish I could post a video on here to show you...
