New cats with covered litter trays - advice please

Id do one of each just incase they are not sure, which ever gets used more you know they prefer

I left the flap off for a while until they were comfortable using it.

Mine have always been fine with the covers but I leave the flaps off.

I think it is a good idea to leave the flaps off as they can be very stiff when they are new.  See how they get on to start with and then decide what to do.

I'd leave the covers on and see how they go, they may actually like it more to have the cover as it gives them some privacy in a new environment.

I will soon be bringing home two rescue cats (adults). They are currently in a pen with an uncovered litter tray. Before that they were living in bad conditions in a small flat with 19 other cats and just had newspaper on the floor. But they are litter trained and one is particularly clean - yesterday I saw him go in after his brother to clean up after him. javascript:void(0);

I have got two jumbo covered litter trays for them. My question is: should I leave the cover off when they first get here or will they figure out that its the litter tray with it covered? I was going to leave the flaps off anyway.
