I've made and put up an extra large scratching post for my cats. I used the cardboard tube from inside a roll of carpet and added rope and then used two brackets to attach it to the wall. It's about 7ft tall. Anyway I was hoping the cats would start to use it by now. I've put cat nip on it any ideas what I can do to get them to use it?

I have always picked the cats up ... carried them to the scratch post and actually put their paws on it and shown them what it's for. Then a quick spray with Kookamunga cat nip spray (it's the best) and leave em to it.

If I have bought a new post, I show them it and scratch my nails on it to get them interested. I bought a big one before that had a base that looked like it was made our of Chewbacca's fur, Poppy and Charlie were scared of it.

Sam, the cat nip spray sounds good where did you get it from?
I don't know if they are scared of it but it does have a bit of a funny smell which they might not like it's the sisal rope. Hopefully it will wear off soon.
