:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Our post van came today and brought Da Bird!  Ollie is over the moon.  For a few minutes he forgot he was a scaredy cat and rushed around like a mad thing. thank you for getting it here despite the strike.  Portia sat watching Ollie but wasn't quite sure what to do so contended herself with a look that said "Fancy making a fool of yourself like that"

OK new update  ;D

The Post Office has got an injunction in  Court against the Union and the strikes for next week are now illegal if they were to happen.

The Post and the Unions are tonight very close to an agreement which if this comes off should mean no more strikes.........................till the next time  :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

I still waiting for outstanding mail grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

UPDATE and FURTHER STRIKES FOR NEXT WEEK!

After lengthy negotiation we are very disappointed that the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has announced more strike action starting on Monday 15th and ending on Friday 19th October. This action will take place at different Royal Mail sites across the country at different times.

Mail Centres will be on 24-hour official strike from early evening on Monday 15th October, and separate Delivery Offices will be on 24-hour official strike from the early hours of Tuesday 16th October. Therefore Deliveries and Collections will be severely limited on Tuesday 16th October.
Network drivers will be on 24-hour official strike from lunchtime on Wednesday 17th October, which will delay the movement of mail across the country.
Manual Data Entry Centres will be on 24-hour official strike from lunchtime on Thursday 18th October. This affects small volumes of hand-written, stamped mail only.
The Heathrow International Distribution Centre will be on 24-hour official strike from the afternoon of Thursday 18th October, and this will affect International mailings.
Talks between Royal Mail and the CWU are continuing, aimed at reaching a lasting settlement.

Royal Mail regrets the impact of the strike action and apologises to our customers for the disruption this has caused. We are also very sorry that we have had to withdraw a number of service promises and guarantees, but will reinstate these as soon as we are able to honour them.

We are working hard to return to normal as quickly as possible, and will continue to deal with mail sequentially - in the order in which it is received. However, customers should expect continued delays as we clear the build-up of mail posted during the recent strike days, and deal with the receipt of large customer postings during the peak autumn period. Additional strike action will inevitably add further delays.

Unofficial strike action

We are very disappointed to report that our colleagues in areas of London and Liverpool are currently taking unofficial strike action, which may be followed in other parts of the country. This will inevitably lengthen our recovery period, and customers can expect further delays to mail collection and delivery services in these areas. Please call our customer service Helplines - 08457 950 950 for Business customers and 08457 740 740 for residential customers - for more details.

As it stands, the title means postal strike will cause shop deliveries to occur - surely not!!!  :Dont know:  :notlisten:  :evillaugh:

Thats very good bc , I am impressed.  ;D

I was a Government contract officer and in the major contracts  we didnt ever want to think Force Majeure, let alone invoke it but we knew we always had it on hand if needed.

Force Majeure literally means "greater force". These clauses excuse a party from liability if some unforseen event beyond the control of that party prevents it from performing its obligations under the contract. Typically, force majeure clauses cover natural disasters or other "Acts of God", war, or the failure of third parties--such as suppliers and subcontractors--to perform their obligations to the contracting party. It is important to remember that force majeure clauses are intended to excuse a party only if the failure to perform could not be avoided by the exercise of due care by that party.

When negotiating force majeure clauses, make sure that the clause applies equally to all parties to the agreement--not just the licensor. Also, it is helpful if the clause sets forth some specific examples of acts that will excuse performance under the clause, such as wars, natural disasters, and other major events that are clearly outside a party's control. Inclusion of examples will help to make clear the parties' intent that such clauses are not intended to apply to excuse failures to perform for reasons within the control of the parties.

Postal strike to affect Shop deliveries
« Reply #1 on: October 04, 2007, 15:40:54 PM »
Just when we open and have orders to dispatch, the PO goes on a big strike  :(.

I have posted a couple of orders off but not sure when they will reach you. The orders containg personalised items as soon as they are made will be posted out from Wednesday onwards after the strike.

 :thanks:

Here is the latest from the PO office about the strike
The Communications Workers Union (CWU) has announced further strike action. Two 48-hour strikes are planned. The first will begin at lunchtime on Thursday 4th October and ends at lunchtime on Saturday 6th October. The second will begin in the early hours of Monday 8th October, ending in the early hours of Wednesday 10th October. Whilst deliveries will recommence on Wednesday 8th October, we anticipate it may take some time before normal service resumes.

This will be followed by an unspecified programme of weekly strikes, starting week commencing October 15th, until the resolution of the dispute.

During the strikes, Royal Mail’s priorities will be:

Keep mail flowing, by keeping as many sorting machines and vehicles as possible operating, and processing as much mail as possible through our system
Protect vulnerable members of society, who depend on Post Office payments of pensions and social security
Manage the needs of our large customers with bulk mailings – helping them post around disruption as best they can
Ensure that all customers can continue to post mail through the Post Office network
Prioritise Special Delivery services, although all guarantees will be suspended

What does it mean for our customers?

This action will severely limit our ability to provide any services for the coming period. Customers should expect severe disruption to all postal services during the strikes and for a significant period afterwards.

Door to Door - We will not be able to maintain a Door to Door service. Royal Mail is therefore applying Force Majeure for all Door to Door contracts scheduled for delivery during the weeks commencing October 8th, October 15th and October 22nd 2007.
We regret that this industrial action will have a significant impact on Royal Mail’s Door to Door service during this period and for sometime afterwards whilst our operation concentrates fully on service recovery
As a result of this disruption we will apply Force Majeure for contracts scheduled for delivery during weeks commencing 8th October, 15th October and 22nd October as we are not able to provide our normal delivery service
We understand that customers may wish to make alternative arrangements during this period
Any customers with a Door to Door booking for delivery on weeks commencing 8th October, 15th October and 22nd October who wish to cancel it can do so without incurring any cancellation charges
Please contact our Sales & Customer Service Centre on 08457 950 950 (selecting the Door to Door option) for further information
