There's a fair few cats around our way, in excess of 30 within a 50 house radius so it's not uncommon to see cats in our garden that I don't recognise but the other week I opened the back door to find a cat sat on our door step like it was our own. It meowed at me and I crouched down and played with it for a bit, it was quite nervous though but eventually it ventured into our kitchen but I didn't let it stay long as I didn't want it getting too familiar and brave with strangers houses (especially unsavoury people).
It sat outside our backdoor for nearly 2 hours and every time I opened the door it meowed at me with the "I'm hungry" voice so eventually I caved in and put some biscuits down for it. Big mistake possibly but I'm a soft touch.
Anyway, I've seen it around lately and didn't give it any more thought. This morning I came down to feed our 2 and opened the back door to put the litter out as it was messy and I couldn't face it at 7:30am, so I left the door open halfway to air the place out while I fed ours.
Went in the back room and fed our 2 and as I turned back to the kitchen door I spot this :
It sat there meowing at me again with a definite element of "feed me mofo!!!!". I caved in again and hand fed it some biscuits as it looked so helpless but I went into the back room to do something on the PC and heard a munching sound, looked over and it had come into the kitchen, into the back room and was finishing off Portia's brekkie! When I stood up it legged it back outside and suffice to say I think it looks guilty :
I felt sorry for the poor thing but I don't want it getting too friendly! Cute cat though :)
Paul.

Wassunt me. :she did it: :notme:
Very good, very good indeed.

I thought it was blood at first :scared: Then realised it looked like a lump of cat food :evillaugh:

:innocent:
Love the expression!
Actually, we have a similar thing going on at the moment. Two kittens have moved in a few doors down. They're just at that really cute adolecemt stage and one of them in particular (we call him Wilbur as I don't know what his real name is) is into everyhing, and has become rather obsessed with our Munchkin. He calls round at least once per day and won't go away until The Munchkin has 'played' with him for a while. Last weekend I gave our Munchkin some tuna as a treat- he was eating it on the garden table but when I next looked Wilbur had his head in the bowl as well. There was a real battle going on as to who could eat it most quickly. I think they met in the middle in the end
-
Awwww!
Opened the back door this morning and it came legging it up the drive and sat there looking at me. Bold as brass strolled right past me into the back room and started munching on biscuits!
Part of me feels sorry for it and part of me thinks I should chase it off so it doesn't get too friendly with strangers.....
Its so cute though!
-
You tried putting a paper collar on him Paul? He might really be lost. :scared:
He must be shovelling it in to get it quite so far up his face, so maybe he is actually starving? :(
-
I was in London yesterday and Wednesday but it was back yesterday morning when I left and again in the evening according to my wife and it was there yesterday morning. Just came down to feed our 2 and there it was again waiting on the doorstep meowing.
I'm even more convinced it's a stray as it ate some biscuits I gave it like it was it's last ever meal and it let me stroke it, it's covered in tics and fleas :(
-
Poor little thing, maybe you could treat it for these nasty things?
-
I'm gonna get it something for that and fleas, right now I don't care if someone owns it as they clearly aren't looking after it properly. I just don't have it in me to not do something. It's been on our doorstep day and night for 4 days straight now (probably partly my fault for feeding it) but I'm more and more convinced it's either living rough or gets no love/attention at all.
-
Poor cat and ticks can be life threatening I believe if they are not removed correctly.
Why cant people look after their cats and love them like we do
-
Paul you can squeeze one of these on his neck while he's feeding.

quote FLEA13 at the checkout and get an extra 10% off until 31st May. Free delivery. Nice idea to treat your two at the same time as they will have succumbed to a share of his itchy friends by now.
I think you're doing the right thing. You could print a paper collar from the RSPCA site and stick it on him with a bit ot sellotape?
http://www.rspca-bristoldogsandcatshome.org.uk/uploads/documents/1239288412_MicrosoftWordPapercollar1.pdf
-
Thanks Sheila! I've just bought some flea/tick stuff from Pets At Home on my lunch, it trusts me enough that I'll be able to put it on it's neck no problem :)
Yeah I'm gonna do that or stick a sign up, the poor thing wanders the neighbourhood so I'd hope it belongs to someone, if not then I don't know what I'll do, it's so cute I'll want to adopt it!
-

You've some great photos. To help with posters for him, why not post him on the National Pet register as a Found pet (he clearly is not feral if you can get that close to him). www.nationalpetregister.org Their site has a "create your own flyer" facility which is dead easy to use.
This is the post I created for my Tuffers, who as you know is still with me.
http://www.nationalpetregister.org/fp/29404.htm
AnimalSearchUK is the other big lost and found site. You might also want to read your local Bumtree lost and found site (warning - don't whatever you do start reading the cats and kittens for sale though, it will kill you!) as his owner may have posted him on there.
Once he's de-flead the next logical step is to get him checked for a microchip at your nearest vet. This will be free and they will also tell you his sex and whether he's neutered. If no chip, and no-one claims him after advertising him locally for seven days, you can have him neutered as a stray and adopt him yourself. :innocent:
He is very cute. :Luv2:
-
Haven't seen him for 2 days and was starting to worry, just opened the back door to pop out and.....he was there meowing at me.
http://db.tt/q7yKGRni
Fed him and put some flea/tick stuff on in the process but gonna canvas the area to see if anyone owns him.

Oh bless you both :) You need to know if he's chipped, though. Bank holiday week-end is against you. Poor mite is lost and looking for his Dadz. :(
-
He's back again today :
http://www.youtube.com/v/oW4SZf3qME8
-
Well he came back again tonight, as soon as I opened the back door he was up the drive and meowing at the back door. This time though he was following me around as I moved around the garden and was being VERY affectionate, as you can see on this video, which I will apologise in advance for A. my feet being in shot and B. the garden needs mowing, I've already had a bollocking from my wife about that :shy:
http://www.youtube.com/v/NFB5t_B___k
Then when I'd fed him he didn't want to leave! So I made a lame attempt at making him some shelter, sure he wouldn't use it but just a minute later I looked :
I'm gonna ring the RSPCA in the morning and see what they recommend.
-
Oh dear, you've named him :scared: Slippery slope :evillaugh:
He's lovely and very cuddly bless him! :Luv2: I think a paper collar is the route to go down, he looks pretty chunky so he might be a serial breakfast-er rather than lost.
-
Just don't let the RSPCA take him in whatever you do, he'll be on death row before you know it. :scared:
To be honest, Paul I wouldn't risk going anywhere near the RSPCA with him, I've seen some dreadful reports of cats being taken in on the promise of being re-homed then destroyed even though the finder was willing to take the cat on permanently, just because the finder didn't have a catflap/garden etc. >:(
All you need is the chip scanner and sexing. Your vet may well do this for free and will give hime a quick health check at the same time. :)
-
He's a lovely cat and clearly knows where he wants to live! Why don't you just save time and accept the inevitable now?
-
When I took a stray to my vets to check him for a chip they took him away from me! It was dreadful, I sobbed and sobbed and made quite a spectacle of myself!
They let me have him back after 10 days though and we found him a lovely home as he wasn't really suitable for us, being an outdoor cat. He was the most gorgeous cat... it was because of him that I joined this forum in fact!
If he has no chip and if you have put notes round locally trying to locate his owners and done everything reasonable to locate them I would maybe let him live in an outhouse or shed in the first instance. Then if nobody comes forward then keep him.
If his owners cared they'd be trying their best to find him so if your local vets or sanctuary have had no reports and there are no posters around then they are not trying very hard and deserve to lose him in my opinion.
He is a real cutie!

How did you get on Paul? :allears: Is he/she staying with you for now?
-
How did you get on Paul? :allears: Is he/she staying with you for now?
Well not really much to say, he really has taken a shine to me though :Luv2:
I'm gonna get a paper collar on him today and printed out his pictures to pin up locally, there is a farm at the end of our road so it's possible hes an outdoor cat from there so might go an enquire.
He was waiting for us last night when I got home from the gym and was straight up to me rubbing against me, went mad for food then basically sat outside the house on the drive the rest of the evening and everytime I opened the back door he came running up to it.
When I went to bed I heard him talking/crying outside so I went down, opened the front room window and he put his paws on the wall and grabbed my hand with his paw.....god I was nearly in tears. I'd love to let him in but I don't want him in if he's still got fleas etc.
-
I believe the fleas should go within 24 hours of you applying Frontline(was that what you used?lol)
-
So, what've you called him? :-: :innocent:
-
He wants to love you and be loved ;D
-
I've named him Bruno :)
He sees me and comes legging it full pelt up to me, but he's been sat outside our house for the last few nights crying :(
I've got an appointment for the vets booked for Tuesday but even then I've got to take time off work and they aren't being cooperative about it, gits.
In the meantime I've come up with something better than him sleeping in our hedge, he seems to have taken to it!

That looks great Paul! Is it a beehive? :shy:
Bruno is looking more and more like he's moving in to your heart, if not quite yet into your home. The flea treatment wil have worked by now so it will be safe to bring him indoors when you're ready.
The vet not co-operating? Meaning they're gonna charge you for the check-up? If he is microchipped, they are obliged to report him to the microchip company and allow for the owner to be tracked down. Be ready for this, OK?
I've looked on the National Pet register for your general area and no-one has reported him missing. I'll check the other sites too for you as I'm a member on most of them. If there is no chip present, and you've advertised him locally for seven days, then you can take ownership of him as a stray.
Ask the vet if they participate in the RSPCA's C4 scheme which helps with neutering the stray population (unless he's already neutered?) and how to get a voucher in your area. Usually Cats Protection League will help out with vouchers for neutering strays so the vet should not charge you for his operation if he participates.
-
Awww, Bruno looks nice and cosy in his new shelter!
Sheilarose, I took it to mean that work are not being co-operative, rather than the vets?
-
Ah that makes more sense, yes. :shy:
-
Just finished trawling the web within 30 miles of you for lost tabbies since Feb 2012. Bruno's not on the radar, Paul.
Either he's local and no-one cares >:( or he's been lost from much further afield. :shify:
-
That's all for the help so far I really appreciate it! The little sod still wants to be in the house as he was meowing like a goodun earlier and I felt so sorry. Misty isn't impressed with him but to be fair she still only barely tolerates Portia lol

Oh Bruno is just gorgeous and looks very safe and cosy in there ;D
Hopefully your other cat will let him in the house but sure she will be jealous :shify: :shify:
-
He's currently sat on the back table which is pushed up against the back room window meowing, he's killing me lol
(http://pjitsolutions.co.uk/pics/share/bruno2.jpg)
-
Oh God he's killing me too.
Tuesday at the vet? Cripes, don't think I could hold out that long Paul. :'( :) I'd have crumbled long since. Presumably Portia has something to say about all this? :-:
Enjoy the footie by the way. ;D
-
Hi Paul,a plug in called Feliway helps with stressful situations(for the cats lol)
-
Yeah it's the earliest I can get him there and have time off :-(
Saw the Feliway on the telly so might give it a go :-)

According to a group of kids on the estate my little friend belonged to a woman who's house got burnt down over a year ago and she had to move away. Why she didn't come back for him I'll never know but at least I know who's he is now!

Oh poor Bruno, he's lost his mum. :'(
I wonder if you could track her down via the police, she might have been too distressed to come back and look for him?
If she mentioned a cat to them in her victim report, they might have an address for her and be able to reunite them? Although, to be fair I wouldn't want to send him back to someone whose house has burnt down :scared:
Thank goodness you're there to pick him up and pop him back on his paws, Paul. I think you had a feeling about this one from the start didn't you. :gold stars:
-
If you knew the area, and the people that inhabited that house, you'd be like me thinking "screw that, I'm not bothering to contact them". We reckon the house fire was a minimum of 2 years ago. The kids knew the lady by name and said "she left it behind". I asked them if she had been back for the cat and they said no.
Even if I managed to track her down I doubt he'd be getting a warm welcome. He's chosen me for a reason I reckon, he came and sat on my lap earlier and leant against my chest :Luv2:
Had to move the appointment for the vet to Wednesday due to work commitments but I'm adament he's staying, he chose us for a reason and although I'm not one to believe in fate I believe he chose us for a good reason.
-
I agree with you PJ
-
Couldn't agree more. ;D And now you have a history for him, you can tell the vet you've already adopted him as your own as he's been abandoned, there should be no issues over ownership so long as he's not microchipped.
How's he getting on with Portia have they made each other's acquaintance yet? I think he's adorable. :Luv2:
-
It sounds as if this story is going to have a very happy ending :briggin:
-
I hope so!
He was meowing to be fed last night so I let him in briefly..........
-
OMG how can you resist :) He's adorable. Is he a he by the way? :innocent:
I hope the vet visit is a success and he is flea free and neutered and ready for adoption ;) I'm sure the girls will soon fall for him too!
-
Good for you Paul,it looks like he's got a lovely home+a caring owner.
-
Thanks all :)
He's off to the vet tonight for a free health check, I want to bring him in but I want to be sure his fleas are gone before I do.
-
Good luck, Paul and Bruno. :luck: Don't forget your flea meds are much cheaper on line that from the vet, and usually arrive in 2 days. Try Animed Direct - free delivery.
I imagine Bruno will require a worming tablet - my vet charges £7 for a Milbemax which is a broad spectrum wormer and he pops it in there and then, saves me a job. :-:
Take a note of Bruno's weight, especially if he's under 4kgs - this will help you order the right dose of meds on-line.
Hope I'm not teaching Granny to suck eggs, just so eggcited (geddit!) for you.

That might just be a wormy tummy making him look porky. :shy:
Or he might be a girl with kitten on board :hairrasin: YIKES!

He's a boy, confirmed and she described him as "a bit rotund" lol
A neighbour of ours told me she's been feeding him as well......8 pouches a day!!!! :wow:
-

I love rotund cats ;D ;D

No fleas that they can see, but he IS microchipped but I'm not expecting the owners to rock up and claim him sadly.
And yep thats Portia, Misty is showing him her usual amount of distain she shows all cats haha

He's a lovely lad and clearly settling down very well!
-
The vets have just rung, they have found his owners details on the system and left a message for them, so it remains to be seen if it is the correct info and if they actually can be bothered to come forward, call me cruel but I kinda hope they dont :(
-
yikes
-
I only say that because he's been alone for a long time, and as far as I can tell they've made no effort up till now to find him, if they do come forward and take him back it'll be a very hard pill to swallow if they look as though they just sat back and waited for someone to do all the hard work for them.
-
totally agree, I wonder how long they give them to get in touch??
-
Oh dear this is terrible and hope those details are so out of date................................
-
Oh no, how horrible for you! :(
-
is no news good news???
-
Owners can't be contacted, they are on the estate but they can't give me the details obviously. They said they will send a letter.
He's proving VERY aggressive though, especially around food, he jumped in my spot on the sofa yesterday when I nipped to the loo and when I tried to move him when I came back he attacked my arm and drew blood in 8 different spots.
Misty and Portia are both refusing to eat and haven't eaten properly for 3 days and Misty refuses to even come downstairs.
:(
-
It sounds like he has been feeding paw to mouth for a long time and has got very possesive, poor boy. A pillow comes in very useful for protection :shify:
Make sure you give the others loads of attention so they know that they are still loved and still top cats,
-
Not really any progress, Misty hasn't been downstairs since he came in the house except to go out and she's eaten about a pouch of food in the last 4 days. Misty hisses at him, he hisses at her and attacks her and he also attacks Portia if she even comes anywhere near him, took a chunk of her fur off yesterday.
He's fine with me though and my wife but he doesn't like the other cats and they don't like him :(
-
Oh dear, Tufty did exactly this in his early days. :( :( Attacks of the arm can, as Gill rightly says, be warded off by cushions but please be careful he doesn't then turn to your face.
Bruno is a challenged cat, from what you say it's likely he's been abused or at best neglected in the past, and does not see himself as a pet (unless he wants food!)
He's feeling really threatened, so tries to control situations with targeted violence, and if you seriously want to keep him (and this is a big IF now you know he has an owner on the Estate) he needs to be introduced like any other new cat.
This means isolation, gentle introductions and lots and lots of reassurance to your existing brood, else there could be huge repercussions for your selves and your resident cats later on. :shify:
There's a good piece in the Purrs Behaviour section for introducing new cats, have a read and see if bells start ringing.
If you take the time now to fix this, he has a good chance of integrating, otherwise set yourself up for some interesting times ahead. :shify:
It's taken me two years to get Tufty to the point he will come and go freely without attacking either of us and our residents. He was near to death when we found him, in agony with his matts, and violent as a result. Even now he will only allow cuddles when he's hungry.
It's a big ask, Paul, rehabbing this boy. I know. :phew: And not one you've signed up for. :shify:
-
Thanks all, I didn't lock him in the back room last night and he was fine, didn't get woken up by any of then scrapping lol

Great picture ;D ;D
But who is where lol
Mine sorta do this but Sasa and Lupin will maybe top and bottom with Misa in the middle and nobody can move except Misa
Misa has also taken to lying against the bedroom door to stop Lupin getting in or out. Sasa will sit somewhere and glare at Lupin and he is too scared to try and get past!
CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Portia at the top, calm as a coma, Bruno at the bottom wondering WTF is going on and Misty in the middle growling at him and guarding the stairs lol
He LOVES laying on me, he's a portly chap but he loves sprawling across my lap and laying there for ages, lazy git!
-
Ahhhh they have taken over the house again then and he is at the bottom of the pecking order where he should be :evillaugh:
-
interesting, I read it completely the other way round and thought he was stair blocking :evillaugh:
-
Nah, he was just curious, Misty jumped in the middle to block him lol
-
How's it going, Paul? Did the vet get a response to the letter? Hoping the girls have him under control by now and he's back to lap hogging. :)
-
Hey all, been working alot lately so sorry for the lack of updates.
It's settled down a little now, Misty still can't stand the sight of him but she's realised he isn't going anywhere so she will at least come down and eat without being a big girls blouse.
He is still a bit of a handful when it comes to feeding time, he won't sit there and wait he has his nose is whichever bowl gets put down first so I have to man handle him away, especially from Portia's as she is so submissive she will walk away and leave him to it and I don't want her going hungry.
He eats like a frickin horse, follows me around the house constantly, and I do mean constantly and has a thing for sitting on me and leaning into me and hiding his head in my armpit lol
Misty still hisses at him and him at her but it's not come to blows yet. Oh, and he refuses to go outside the house, point blank refuses. He'd rather lay in the front room next to me :)
-
Have the girls claimed upstairs as theirs then? Sounds like a tense but workable compromise.
You're so good keeping him safe, and he obviously feels safe with you, Paul - his behaviour is pretty clear on that front. ;D
-
sounds like they will work it out, suppose he has been hungry and outside for a while so don't really blame him for being a greedy stay at home!
-
Yeah Misty and Portia tend to stay upstairs although Portia isn't afraid to venture down and Misty is just a miserable cow lol
She's coming down more often now, she was a bit like this when Portia came, proper spat her dummy out haha
He is so cute, he really does love curling up next to me.....
-
I so love to see an ex stray looking so contented and having a fear free sleep ;D ;D
-
Poor chap, he is obviously frightened of going outside in case he doesn't get in again! Just as clearly, he identifies you as being the provider of all good things :)
-
Hey all, still a bit tense, but they all seem to be adapting slightly. He came and jumped on the bed last night, walked right up to my face, climbed on my chest and started rubbing his head into my mouth and then laid down on the bed. Very cute, but my other half shoo'd him away as he was laid where her feet needed to be lol
He slept at the top of the stairs last night for the first time ever, I think he wanted some love and to be closer to people. These 2 pics are feeding time last night and this morning, Misty still hisses but she's getting used to the idea he's staying...

He's a lovely lad!
-
he does look at home, how are the others taking to him
-
Sorry for the delay in replying, Portia isn't phased by him at all and neither is he by her, although he does chase her sometimes I think it's all meant in a playful way. She licked his nose the other day and the look on his face was priceless, but he didn't react in a bad way.
He's not quite so keen and like a bull in a china shop now when it comes to feeding time, he's become very vocal though but in a cute way.
Misty still can't stand him but to be fair she still hates Portia even after living with her for 2 years. Misty will now come in the kitchen and sit there with him around which is good.
Just had to share this pic from last night :

He looks supremely relaxed in that photo, does he not? Settled right at home by the look of things. Glad that Misty is at least tolerating him around the place even if she doesnt actually like him :innocent: and very glad he's less aggressive round mealtimes. Classic sign of being scared where the next one was coming from.
He has a very "smiley" face. :)

Hey everyone, I've not been on in a long time, new job has been taking alot of my time as has treating ourselves to 2 holidays this year! Anyway, just thought I'd give you all an update on Bruno, he's still with us and happy as ever, although we did have to take him to the vets recently due to him being constipated again. ANOTHER £400 spent on him. Seems we weren't giving him enough lactulose, and I'm pleased to say his "motions" are better than they've ever been.
Thought I'd share some more pics of him and the others!
