That's really sad news. It sounds like she was peaceful and comfortable though and if there's a best way to go, then that has to be the way.

Hope her foster carer is ok

Do they have any idea why?

No Nikki was nice and cosy when Suzanne went out and when she came back in  she was dead in almost the same position, so it looks like she just went peacefully in her sleep.

That's probably one of the nicer ways to go. Glad she left peacefully and was content.

At least Nikki knew love, warmth and comfort in her last few days, pass on hugs to your fosterer Ela, I know these times are hard for them, but Nikki did not suffer and, though it doesn't sound right in words, it's a nice way for them to go, rather than in pain and suffering. :Luv2:

I am afraid I have some terrible news,  Suzanne her fosterer  has just rung to to say she has just found Niki dead. It appears she died in her sleep this afternoon. It is so sad but at least during the last few days of her life she knew what love and care was.

Maybe it should  be compulsory for breeders to stress the enormous task a longhaired 'buyer' is taking on.

Most good breeders do more than that, they actually show the new owner how to groom, bath and blow dry, explain how the coat will change from kittenhood into adulthood, seasonal changes etc, etc.

Poor Nikki.  Still, at least now she is with Chesterfield CP and her luck has changed.

Most definitely, I should get another pic soon but we have been very busy, (Christmas Fayre today, and tomorrow some of the fosterers are on the Chesterfield Market 10 am - 7 pm.) I understand Nikki has fur in her  head and feet. Eric (vet) opened our Christmas Fayre this morning and told me Nikki was so thin.

My goodness we need the money we have had a bad few weeks, we took in a new foster cat about 3 weeks ago and he  looked so well, after about 3 days he started with a bladder problem and since then he is getting worse and worse  and the vets cannot find the cause and has spent so much time at the vets.  He seemed to recover a little, came home for a couple of days and then was found collapsed in his pen again, tonight he is on a drip again. we just do not know what the outcome will be but we must give him every chance. His pic is on the gallery. Name Mr BB

I agree completely HK, we have had a couple of semi-longhaireds in as adults who have hated being groomed, maybe they would have been better if they had been used to it as kittens.

I think some people are ignorant of the work involved with longhaired cats.
It's easy when they like being groomed. I used to have a maine coon type moggy who loved being brushed so much that if I was late doing it (allotted time 10.pm) he would sit and stare at me till the penny dropped. He was a pleasure to brush.

Maybe it should  be compulsory for breeders to stress the enormous task a longhaired 'buyer' is taking on.

Sam, we might not know the circumstances, but to have a longhaired cat in that state and then to just leave them in a box rather than physically hand them over says a lot.
I would love a longhaired cat, but not sure I could cope with one, both with teh grooming and my asthma, so I wont adopt one will I can foster one to check - and would you believe I have been fostering for over 3 years and not had a longhaired in yet, something has stopped me taking in everyone we have been asked about!!

In  all probability she was someones cat and they dumped her, had she been a stray I am sure someone would have knocked on the door and said so.
