Ive just took in a beautiful Ginger and White female, 14yr old with no med probs  (:wow:)

The reason I took her is because she was getting PTS just because the owner's were frightened that she took a swipe at their toddler's face....

I cant imagine what thought's are going around in this cat's head..... :(

That's annoying (glad the cat is in good hands now!).

When I worked at a rescue in the US we had a great dane/rottweiler mix who was lovely and pretty much a horse he got adopted by a lady who had a dog and a 5 yr old boy. Three days later the dog was back and legally had to be pts because it bit the son... the son (and the owners admited it) had grabbed a treat out of the new dogs mouth.. the dog snapped at him and the kid had small teeth marks on his face (the dog could have bit his head off). I asked to adopt the dog but was told it had to be pts.

I believe I left the next day.

Love Pilchard's photos! He's so lovely.

Did Pilchard's photos this morning. The lady said Her neighbour got him as a kitten but when he got fleas, she threw him out  - This was 2 years ago. The lady said she bought him a kennel last year which he used last winter but won't go in any more for some reason. She said it is upsetting her own cat as Pilchard wants to be in the house. She said she lets him in sometimes but no catflap so he scratches her door if he wants to go to the toilet. She has been frontlining him but said her friend said he didn't need worming as he is a good weight and would be skinny if he had worms

I can't imagine just leaving an animal like that - we have already talked to BA about taking Xanthe out to Johannesburg with us. Poor abandoned puss.

and as for the ars :censored: who were going to PTS the Ginger and White female Puss, they need a kick up the Backside >:(
My Neice used to come round here, and there was a few times she'd be a wee bit rough with Misty and Hamish  Misty
used to vacate the area, whereas poor Hamish being so laid back as he was 8) used to get carried around upside down with
little hands around His tummy and his Hind leg's sticking up in the air  my Sis would alway's Stop her and Tell her to
be Gentle with Him, which in a very short time she did :Luv: even Misty used to stay and get a gentle pet. as long as there
wasn't little finger's try to poke his eye out  :evillaugh:

The reason I took her is because she was getting PTS just because the owner's were frightened that she took a swipe at their toddler's face....

When I was around 5 or 6, my parents had a stunning long haired ginger and white cat called Gem. I was obsessed with her and used to follow her to fuss her all the time. Once, she decided she didn't want fuss and went behind the settee, so I followed her and carried on trying to give her a cuddle. She couldn't get out and responded to the situation be lashing out, catching my face about a cm from my eye. My mum took one look at what was happening and said it was my own fault because it was obvious Gem didn't want the attention - and she was right! :)

I think if the cat took a swipe at the toddler it's likely there was a reason. I don't understand people that can just "dispose" of animals when they lose interest either, but as Desley says, if you try and figure it out it will drive you mad!

Your Mum sounds just like mine ...when I was a toddler I was crawling round the floor with a wooden building block in my hand.  Our Siamese, Rajah, was stretched out in front of the fire and yours truly crawled over to him and ended up jabbing the block into his tummy ... as you can imagine he was not best pleased and lashed out (I still have the faint scar on my face 38 years later!).  My Mum rushed in and after checking Rajah was OK (I have always known I was second place to the furbabes! LOL) told me it was all my fault and "that'll teach you to be gentle in future".  I'm sure if she had had to make the choice to rehome the cat or me ... I would have had my bags packed without a second thought!  :naughty:

(And people wonder why I have No maternal instinct).

I don't understand them either :( all pets are for life not just for Christmas.

My friend is emigrating to New Zealand in the spring and is taking her dog and cat with her, using a specialist pet transport firm

We had a wonderful b/w cat some years ago.  He belonged to some people who moved and just left him.  A neighbour told me that they said "It'll be OK he can catch mice" !!!!  >:(  We took him in and he lived for 3 years before his kidneys gave up on him.  He was a truly super cat and soo friendly.

Have to say that the owner's had contacted their local rescue's, put ads in the paper's etc....but as we all know people are mainly interested in kittens......

I do think to abandon them is far harsher than re-homing for what-ever reason  >:( these people obviously go through life running away from problems  >:(

it does make you mad doesn't it!!!  Last winter we had a similar case but what they had done was put their 2 cats out in carriers in the garden, their budgies in their cage and left the rabbit shut in the hutch.....  now OK... leave them behind... by why lock them up and leave them to  starve to death!!!!!  grrrrr

Mind you...  we've also had a cat left behind shut in a carrier with a can of food (unopened) in the woods..... I mean...  imagine not leaving a can opener!!!  (grrrr) ;)

It makes you mad doesn't it?  I think there is not a day goes by I don't hear the words someone has moved and left the cat or more usually cats  behind or someone in my street won't let their cat/cats in and said they don't want it/them anymore.

Fingers crossed for him - it is so sad there are so many cats like this, but no point trying to work it out, it will drive you crazy, and doesnt help the cats.

I have been asked to go and take a photo and write some blurb for a cat. A lady is looking after a cat as her neighbour has decided she doesn't want him any more  :(. The neighbour already has a cat and said she can't afford another one. I can't fault the neigbour as she can't be expected to rehome and has her reasons. Luckily she has been kind enough to say that she can't bear the idea of him going into a pen so she will look after him so he can be direct rehomed. Gillian is supplying her with food in the meantime.  hope we can find this boy somewhere quick before the good samaritan neighbour changes her mind. I am very busy with workmen in etc this week so can't get over there until at least Wednesday. Fingers crossed. I will do it ASAP so Julie (Pinkbear) can get him on catchat. I will post a pic here too. Poor abandoned boy  :(
