Burmese certainly are characters, mine all were. They are also vertical cats in that if there is anything there, they will climb it, curtains, furniture, bookshelves, people, you name it. I would go with the tonkinese theory for those toms also - that would account for the colour points and also the rounder body/head shape which is more consistent with the burmese. Interestingly, the burmese in NZ is a much more oriental body shape than here or in Oz, I had quite a job trying to convince folk Sofie was burmese as she was too cobby for their understanding of the breed ...

Everyone loves her, even when she's chewed their furniture!

I'd love to have more but I have to wait ;)

Because our Lirael is a terror on 4 paws so my husband won't let me have another burmese related cat.

I think this stems from her destroying all his Legos.

When i was at the cattery we had a Burmese cat that came in regularly called Holly !
It was like having a naughty toddler around, she destroyed everything and if she decided she wanted a cuddle she would just take a run and jump at you
but she was actually one of my favs

They are all adorable.

I am forbidden however from having any cats that have any form of burmese in them.

Why ?

I thought they looked like Tonkenese - especailly Chip and Dale.

I would have given one a home but dont live in that postal code!
The fact they have had cat flu doesnt bother me at all - i have already taken on a cat flu carrier and 2 calici carriers and none have ever presented with the viruses again

I've just had a reply from the lady dealing with this group. She says it was 2 pure bred Burmese Toms living up the road, who were responsible for the Siamese look...

It's more likely to be Tonkinese if the sires are peds. Burmese don't carry the full expression of the gene for points that you'd see in a Siamese but Tonks do as they are a Burmese / Siamese hybrid. If two Tonks mate, you'd get a ratio of one burmese variant to two tonks and one siamese variant.

Tonk to non-ped mating would supress the gene for points, but if this colony is inbred (and has resulted from multiple matings with these boys) then yes, you would get kittens with the pointed coat pattern. Also, the conformation of these kittens is quite variable - some look like ordinary mogs with points, but the black kitten and the sable one next to it (the first of the two links) do look quite pointy and have that oriental-type wedge head.

N.B. Burmese are far more rounded.

But I suspect they may have accidentally got in with the batch that went for the snip, if you know what I mean...  :innocent:
Anyway, DSH they may be but aren't they just adorable!  :Luv:

Awww shucks, that is such a shame  :evillaugh:  :evillaugh:

Des, DSH or not, it really doesn't matter and I think if you genuinely love cats which I'm sure everyone on this forum does, no one is going to crib at what they are.  Billy is a Maine Coone as everyone knows but in my eyes, he's no different from my moggies.....I honestly don't think peeps give a damn whether they are pedigree, moggy, round, fat whatever, they are stunning regardless.

Any news on your missing kitty?

No, I'm afraid not. Not for the lack of trying, though. It's been over a month now.  :(

It's all farmers and farm land, Desley. You know what they can be like!  >:( One neighbouring farmer uses the cats for target practice. The 2 Burmese Toms belong to yet another farmer. But I suspect they may have accidentally got in with the batch that went for the snip, if you know what I mean...  :innocent:

Anyway, DSH they may be but aren't they just adorable!  :Luv:

All the healthy kittens have now been rehomed but there's still some more sickly ones who will be available in a few weeks.   ;)

Not necessarily BC, pointed cats do occur naturally in the cat population, and without papers, they are pointed DSH. I do hope they find good homes.

Folks..

A plug for a fellow CP branch. They're trying to rehome kittens from a farm colony. Quite a few of them are dead ringers for Siamese!  :sneaky:
