Title: Help!! my cat's gone missing
Post by: bertie on February 18, 2007, 18:06:54 PM
My little cat Bob has gone missing, he's an indoor cat and has never left the house. Our stupid plumber, after being advised that the cat is to stay in, left a door open and he's gone. I've informed Petlog and all the neighbours, and have gone round the blocks several times. Feel like such a failure :-[ I feel physically sick. he's not the brightest of cats, and we live near a busy road, which is why he is an indoor cat. What can I do? I'm sure he's dead.

Bye the way how old is Bob?

and where are you.

Im really sure he will come home.

Ive been there myself and know how it feels.  So please try to keep calm (daft really). but we are all here for you.  Have you walked around with his fav food, often indoor cats will panic and dive under anything that will cover them  ( I know you will feel mad) with an opened tin of Tuna or  cat food or ham or whatever, but it might bring home out if he's panicing.  my fingers and everything are crossed.

Stupid plumber. We've been there too - knock on your neighbours' doors, ask them to check their gardens and call Bob's name softly as you walk around (when this happened to us, years ago, Blip miaowed to us from someone's back garden and that's how we found her).

Good luck - he's probably not very far at all, just scared.

 :Luv:

I agree with Christine ... he will have probably gone to ground and will be frightened.  He won't have gone far as he knows he has a house nearby so will probably just be making the most of his freedom.

Items 1 and 12 on the list are the things to focus on are the moment.  Does he know his name ... if so just keep walking round the local area and keep calling his name and try rattling a box of kitty munchies as you go.

Sending lots of love and postivie vibes for the ssafe return of your little boy.

He's just over 1. He's my baby.....my hubby is going round the block with Bob's favourite treats and I am sat in the garden quietly waiting while every other cat in the world walks across my garden. I'm such a bad mother

Oh Bertie I am so sorry but try and stay positive.  I have been there and know what you are going through.  If Bob is not home before you go to bed leave some food outside your front door, put some used cat litter in the garden and/or the contents of the vacuum cleaner scattered about a bit.

Dont be daft you are not a bad mother, I know that you are mad with your plumber but I am sure it was not deliberate just a bit absent minded.

Sending positive vibes and please keep us posted.

Come home soon Bob

You are definately not a bad mum.

You have kept Bob in from a bad road, the plumber is to blame probably doesnt understand cats.  As everyone as said gently, cos he will be scared.

Try not to beat yourself up you are not a bad mummy.  How long was he out before you noticed he was he missing .... did you start hunting straight away or did he have a head start on you?

I remember one of the first times I let my Sam out and he did not come home I was so upset I thought I had lost him forever.  I actually could not go to bed and sat half sleeping on the sofa with the patio doors open so he would not be locked out overnight.  He came strolling in at about 5 in the morning as though nothing was wrong.

I am sending positive vibes to you and bob, hoping he is just having a little adventure and will return soon.

Bob is home

After following all your advice, i called his name softly and he popped under the hedge from nextdoor. Now the cheeky little monkey is strutting round the house. I am so so relieved, thank you for all your helpful advice.

So pleased he is back ... you'll have to keep an eye on him now, now he has had a taste of the great outdorrs he may want to repeat the adventure.

Probably an idea to keep him shut in the bedroom the next time you have a tradesman in the house  ;)

Had you thought about trying him on a harness?

We have got a harness for him and he loves a little stroll round the garden, but as soon as the harness goes on he walks like a crab and almost crawls very close to the ground - I'm sure the neighbours think I'm totally potty too!

Bertie,  the best way to get him used to his harness is to let him wear it in the house without the lead.  He will soon get used to it and you will than be ablt to take him for a sensible walk in the garden instead of having a cat stuck to the floor lick a limpet

If I put a collar on my cats they get really low to the ground and start doing an "army crawl" just because they are not used to wearing one
