Title: mmmmm ... Bisto??
Post by: carl (billy and baggys dad) on February 07, 2007, 11:21:48 AM
Is it safe for cats to eat gravy?

I was making some for my chips, cheese and gravy fest last night, and Bilbo want ballistic, jumping up, trying to lick my plate, the works. I didn't succumb to his pleas - I thought I'd check on here first. I had the idea of pouring some on their biscuits. Any opininions on if it's safe or not?

Ta very much  :)

I let Jaffa and Mosi lick my plate after I've finished eating and they love it but I make sure there's not too much left.  As Milly's mum says, it's generally salty so not good for cats.

Thanks for the replies - I'd not realised that it was so high in salt. I'm glad I asked now  :)

I try (unsuccessfully) to eat healthy. As far as I know, the worst salt culprits are 1. canned soup, 2, gravy granules, 3. bread, 4, cereals like cornflakes - apparently, take-way wise, indian is very high salt.

If you can find a low salt gravy, it isn't too bad in small amounts - it was recommended to me when Pebbles was being fussy, to pour over her biscuits. I think the one that had the least amount of salt in it was the supermarket own brand, but she hated it!!

Perhaps that is why I don't like Indian food (take away, as I have never had the real thing) then. That will be my excuse from now and I will stick with it.

I pour the water out of cans of tuna onto the girls' biscuits - is that okay?

I did it this morning and they lapped it up!  ;D ;D
