Title: Found cat E17 Black and White DLH - Ivan
Post by: sheilarose on June 15, 2013, 00:59:06 AM
For those who have been following Alvin's thread, this is his (possible) sibling, whom I have christened Ivan  :shify:

I set the trap knowing we had another needy boy in the area - not knowing Alvin would escape from our care tonight.

This is an entirely coincidental entrapment, therefore.

Poor Ivan is a mass of scars and very needy, but seems to be a total sweetheart indoors.

Now I have him close he looks older, wiser and more stable than Alvin. Still no sure he's a HE. This is him from a couple of days ago.

He's a lovely, friendly cat. Can't see any balls so may yet be female?? Very cuddly so not a feral. His head is covered in scars and scabs but he's the gentlest cat I ever met. Will take him for a chip scan at the vet tomorrow.

Poor baby, definitely someones lost pet.  :(

Wish I could have united him with Alvin.  :'( He makes the exact same noises.

Jeez, this little guy loves cuddles and even recognises the rustle of the Dreamies packet. He's definitely sombody's pet.  :(

One  more. He's going on NPR tonight.  This one shows how bad his scabby head is.  :( Ivan is currenly playing with a catnip stressball.  :)

Aww Sheila  Sorry to hear about Alvin but I predict he'll be back - food and kindness are on offer and cats aren't stupid

As for Ivan, have everything crossed there's a happy ending and that he/she is chipped. Recognising the dreamies rustle means he/she must have been a much loved pet, fingers crossed

Thanks Helen, there's no giveaway Tomcat stink either so he's not entire, and he's just sitting at my feet like he's always lived here. Poor baby.  :-:

Oh Sheila, I am sorry about Alvin but i agree with Helen
Ivan is lovely :Luv2: :Luv2: I hope he is neutered and some one's pet if not will you keep him? He looks at home ;)
Finger crossed

OK so does Ivan/Ivana use the litter tray?  If answer is yes, methinks you may have found the purrfect cat  :wow:

Fingers crossed for a reunion via microchip but, if a sibling of Alvin, a chip is unlikely I think.

Waiting to hear more.  Losing a much loved pet is a most harrowing experience.  I have fresh scars despite a happy ending.

Well done Sheila and OH   :gold stars: :gold stars: :gold stars:

Ivan sounds adorable and definitely like someone's pet. Fingers crossed he's chipped and his slaves can be found. If not, I suspect he (or she) has landed on his feet and found himself a new home.

Thanks Helen, there's no giveaway Tomcat stink either so he's not entire, and he's just sitting at my feet like he's always lived here. Poor baby.  :-:

Did I say that? Cor, you could slice the stink in here this morning with a blunt spoon  And now it's daylight I can see a most impressive pair of testicles  :-:

No sign of Alvin today although I heard someone calling outside a few minutes ago but that could be Vidal. I've re-set the trap and baited it with Felix marinades, hopefully Alvin will be hungry soon.  :(

The irony of Alvin escaping only moments before catching Ivan is not lost on me and I could kick myself for being so careless. I'm now sure these two are best buddies as their characters are so similar.

Ivan also managed to escape.  :shify:  He'd been so friendly with the others I'd let him into the kitchen while I made breakfast and once again set the flap to "in" only - except it wasn't, it was on "Out" wasn't it  :stupid:  :-[  He's smart and fast, faster than a hung over, dimwitted human anyway.  :-:

Thankfully, OH spotted his scrawny tail end disappearing through the flap and I gave chase with chikkun which stopped him in his tracks, enabling me to scoop him up and chuck him back in the front room.  :phew: Bless him, he loves his chikkun.  :)

He's currently poking his paws through the slightly open window. I'm afraid this is not an option as his stink is quite overpowering.

OK so does Ivan/Ivana use the litter tray?  If answer is yes, methinks you may have found the purrfect cat  :wow:

Yes, he does. He's the nicest stray cat I think I've ever met, loves his cuddles and strokes, quite happy to be picked up and fussed.  :Luv:

The state of him is really appalling. There's a big wound over his eye which has swollen and makes him look squinty, it's soft, fluid filled so I think there's infection in there. There's also a wound on his back leg which has bled into his fur and scabs all over his face, neck and chest, a deep cut under his chin which has clotted but remains sore (the only thing he's growled about when I poked it).

You'll remember I fed him in the week with capstar laced dinner so at least he hasn't got any live fleas, but his tummy is swollen - presumably with worms. He let me put an Effipro on him earlier today so he just needs a milbemax to deal with his worms, then we can start thinking about neutering.

He's booked in to see Neil at 3.20 today, the castration will have to wait though because I'm in Coventry until Tuesday night then OH is off to Amsterdam until Thursday, which means we can't co-ordinate an all day event until Friday... stinky house time.

Ivan sounds adorable and definitely like someone's pet. Fingers crossed he's chipped and his slaves can be found. If not, I suspect he (or she) has landed on his feet and found himself a new home.

Hoping fervently for a microchip, whoever lost this little gent must be gutted.  :(

Sitting on the cat tree watching the rain falling, Ivan just let off a horrible fart then jumped on my knee, purring away contentedly. He really is a lovely chap, albeit very smelly indeed.  :fart:

Ivan is wonderful and so sad someone didnt neuter him if he was loved.

He sounnds just like my Kocka who was even more tame as she just invited herself into my garden, lay down by my side and moved into my house........reckon she was dumped and was flea ridden.

She was well trained and trained me far too well and was my introduction to cats who I had hated.

I reckon prob as you that Ivan is battled scared cos he is unneutered.

It would be so lovely if Alvin was able to trust you and is reunited with his friend  ;D
Title: Re: Ivan
Post by: sheilarose on June 15, 2013, 17:11:03 PM
Ivan has no microchip.  :(

Neil thinks he's probably between two and three because of his prominent jowls and very tough skin around his scruff.

He's unneutered, wormy and battle-weary and has a slight temperature. The wounds on his head needed investigation because of the swelling which is painful, so he was given a local anaesthetic and Neil picked off his scabs, thankfully the wounds are now clean. Neil said that we got him in just before they turned nasty. A covenia jab will bring his temperature back to normal in no time and should deal with the swelling over his eye.  :)

The wound on his leg we were so worried about turned out to be a crushed snail that was worked into his fur!  :-[

All said, his health is not too bad so Neil was able to give Ivan his first set of vaccs, and microchip him.  ;D Booked in for castration on Friday.  ;)

Here's my poor boy now, home safe and happy to be indoors out of the torrential rain.

Just need little Al to make an appearance now and my happiness will be complete.

On the whole good news then  ;D

He now looks like he has been fighting with the vet  :innocent:

I hope Al will turn up and if its chucking it down he is probably hiding out.

Just a thought he may have tried to get back into the flap and couldnt and probably needs to see another cat get in successfully.

We having odd showers of rain and when drove past neighbours they have now taken up............drilled up the who;e of side path to the side gate..........when are they going to blooming stop  >:(

Al can't get in, Gill, his microchip was never registered to the flap so he's locked out.  :scared:

Need him to go into the trap so have baited it with waitrose tuna chunks in jelly, only the best for my boys  ;)

Fingers and paws crossed here.

Ivan is conked out on the back of the couch, he's slowly slipping down onto my shoulder he's so out of it. Bless his exhausted little dirty socks. :care:

It continues to amaze me the positions that cats get into when sleeping and still are comfy.  My Chloe (at the bridge) used to have her back legs face in the complete opposite direction to her front ones.

Sending lots of healing to Al and Ivan.

About half a mile Gill. It's taken him 18 hours to get home to Maria so maybe he has several homes on the way :shify: or maybe he hung around waiting to see if he could get back in here before deciding to go home when he was hungry, preferring that to the trap. :scared:

http://www.nationalpetregister.org/fp/49819.htm

Decided to use the ugly fighting pic on this site as they only allow one photo upload. Hopefully whoever owns him will see what a mess he's in and get in touch.  >:(

Ivan looks like a perky young buck again today, he slept right through has eaten three bowls of food, done an enormous poo and is happy settled by the window again, seeping fart like he's got a slow puncture.

He's less affectionate than yesterday but now he's feeling on top of his game again I imagine that the pull of Miss Floozy down the road is stronger than ever.

This is going to be a really tricky week. Think I'll fit him with a collar, because escape is highly likely (I'm off to Coventry tomorrow and not back till Tuesday night so OH will be in charge of security.  ) Then OH is off on his jaunt to Amsterdam until Thursday night and I have to squeeze two office days in as well.  :-: If we've still got him on Friday he will be castrated then but it just prolongs the agony for the poor baby.

Also thought I'd better change the title of the thread in case anyone is searching Purrs for a lost cat, in case you were wondering.

Well blimey, begorrah and lordy lordy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent "Found" post on Nat Pet Reg Sheila.  Perfect picture to choose. Poor poor boy  :care: :care: :care:

He is however one incredibly lucky boy.  Yes indeed he is  :agree:

This is for you and OH  :cuddle:

Don't envy you the farting smells  :(  Does this link help at all?   http://pets.webmd.com/cats/cat-flatulence-gas

I'm sure Tufty is asking himself what on earth is going on?  He probably tried to see Ivan off his patch a few times and now he's inside his house!

Thanks Rosella, he really is a sweet boy so I'm sure his unhappy owner will surface this time too.

I've placed an add on Bumtree and printed off a leaflet to post up in the village newsagents. Let's see if we can get this guy home.  :( If not, it's snippety snip on Friday.

Tuffers is pretty pee'd off, yes and although I've never seen him fight with Ivan, I did witness a fairly robust duffing up of young Alvin whose too soft for his own good.

Ivan now fitted with a lovely collar that I won in Shonagh's auction but realised was a bit too girly for Theo, so Ivan's got it on.  :evillaugh:

Well, it seems that flatulence in cats can be caused by over-eating and eating too fast - both likely in a cat who has been fending for himself for a while!

Post by: sheilarose on June 16, 2013, 21:07:38 PM
His gut is seriously big now, and although he had a poo this morning I think he might burst  :scared:

What to do, what to do? I'm away from 2pm tomorrow until Tuesday night so it needs to be something I can administer tonight or in the morning. Or just let nature take it's course?  :shify:

Just now he's splayed out on the back of the couch again. He's good with the litter tray so far but I know when he wakes he will be scouring at the window edges to get out.

Deja Vu.  :shify:

This is a tough one Sheila     Maybe he was abandoned by owners for this reason?   :(  I shouldn't say that I suppose as, bearing in mind Alvin's story, any guesses as to Ivan's story are of course just that. Guesses.

Neutering will put an end to the boycat smell, scooping poo sorts that out, in the fullness of time being able to open the window will help a great deal and hopefully the reason for the gas in his tummy can be found at some point.  It is however going to be a trial meanwhile that's for sure.

Is Ivan on ABs for the cuts to his head?

Is OH up to tackling it all for a couple of days.  I know my OH couldn't that's for sure.

I would be very tempted to either cancel Coventry trip if possible or throw myself on mercy of VNs at vets/local cattery for a couple of days but then again, I'm a nutter  :innocent:
Title: Re: Found cat E17 Black and White DLH - Ivan
Post by: sheilarose on June 17, 2013, 11:00:07 AM
He's under the fear of God not to fail Ivan, Rosella, so I think they'll be bessies by the time I get home.  :cat rub:

I can't cancel my training course in Coventry, unfortunately I've promised to take a colleague with me and she's banking on the lift, so no can do, otherwise yes, I'd cancel and re-arrange as it's the colleges fault we've all been dragged back to finish the course they curtailed last time.  :-:

No matter how many times I scoop, there always seems to be more. Bless him he had a runny tummy last night and it continues to gurgle. He's on grain free biscuits and waitrose organic foil trays of wet food, but if his tummy is still sensitive when I get home tomorrow night I'll be taking him off the dry food entirely. He's so hungry, though. Yesterday he ate 5 bowls of meat and around 100gs of biscuits!  Not to mention the chikkun :-:

Yes, he had a covenia injection for his various wounds and they are healing nicely. He weighed in at a surprising 4.75 kgs, although most of this is sitting around a very rotund, bloated tummy supported by a fairly skinny frame. He was wormed by the vet too (he didn't want to swallow his Milbemax :naughty: and held his breath when Neil gently covered his nostrils to force him too :-: ) his teeth are good and other than the worming pill was very well behaved for his microchip and primaries.

I'm dreading leaving him this afternoon, but so long as OH just makes sure he stays in the front room I'm sure he'll be fine. It's my frayed nerves that will suffer.  :innocent:

I reckon that Ivans tummy is probably down to worms and all the extra food he is eating and once he feels full again and knows he can have regular meals then he will ease up on the food and gradually his tummy will get back to normal.

I do hope so anyway

Got one reply from Bumtree, just a wellwisher.

Hoping this little fella has a home and can be reunited. Apart from his scars, smell and obvious huge testicles, he is somebody's pet and needs to go home (sans testes by preference)

He's a ringe for Tufty who was also a local stray, think they may be related.  :shify:

Need some Ivan vibes here, ladies?

Well I'm home, Oh has done me proud, Ivan is well fed and happily doing battle with his catnip stress balls, and even Sly is in here looking for all the world like he's forgiven me. Maybe the Aldi treats have something to do with it?

Two days to go to snip day, still no word from my ads on bumtree, NPR and AnimalSearch. His scars are healing well and he's so loving, I wish I could find his home.  :(

Will e-mail the local vets tomorrow in case someone has reported him there.  :-:

Is Ivan's tummy settling at all Sheila?  Is he still using the tray all the time?  Does he allow grooming?

Are you ever going to have a normal life?  ;)

Title: Re: Found cat E17 Black and White DLH - Ivan

Thanks Rosella, OH said he was really well behaved. I've passed on your lovely thoughts. Yes he's never once missed the tray, continues to allow cuddles and grooming and now also enjoys aldistick treats which he takes so gently.

As promised his pics are now in the possession of three local vets. I hope he's been reported somewhere because I'd be heartbroken to lose this boy if he were mine.

Normal? This is normal for us Rosella.  :tired: I usually take one stray each spring, (Chubby 2010, Tuffers 2011) this time Alvin was a year late so rather boosted the figures but he had the good grace to bigger off just when Ivan needed the 2013 spot.  :shify:

Well, that's immaterial now Dawn cos the minute I dropped OH off at the airport, the little monster gets out. Seriously I'm so rubbish at this on my own - he slipped out between my legs when I was changing his litter. The catflap was unlocked and he's gone.  :grrrrrr:

That's two I've lost in less than a week!

Luckily he's wearing my collar and tag and is microchipped, I'm hoping he doesn't get into any more trouble though. I've taken the batteries out of the sureflap and set it to open both ways so he's not locked out.

When he bolted through the flap he was fast as lightening but once he was in the garden he took his time over sneaking off, marked a few pieces but stayed just out of my grasp, so maybe you're right and he really has been abandoned. It'll be a battle of wills then, I hope he doesn't remember how easily he was caught last time.

Difference this time, of course, is he's been fed really well for the last 5 days, so has got a fair store packed away in there. He'll be a great deal more cautious. As must I be if I do get him back.

Louise, I need more than luck, I need a flippin brain transplant.

Sorry Sheila can't help with a transplant - a donation would be worthless as well!

He hasn't gone far at all then and is probably just curious at what that yellow thing in the sky is.

I hope Sly knows he needs to lend a hand.

Oh dear Sheila, the trouble is the outside calls him, he is no good at being an indoor cat just like Alvin

I dont think you will be able to trap him again as he has learnt what the trap is and remember rescues saying that one cats have been trapped its almost impossible yto do it again.

I hope that he will remember that he likes the food and will come back of his own accord through the flap.

Yes I'm hoping all he wanted was a little extra space but was otherwise quite content with the service.  :-[ Alvin has not reappeared. :phew: I think his Mum got a bit of a wake up call with him so I'm praying she's got the message and stops breeding from them now.

My 20kgs of catlitter and my new bicycle have both arrived today!

It's like Dover docks here, what with wayward beings running out the back door and enormous parcels coming in the front  :shify:

Yep - just another day at the office here, Rosella.

Afternoon from the Clan homestead wall to wall sunshine so after a 4am start to take PH to the airport to go back to Baku after a week at home and that's him now till October when he combines meetings in London hopefully with removal of my Gall bladder but I hope to go for a week in August for my birthday and some R & R from the kids

Sheila have faith I have one failure in 15 years of trapping big Red here he has now moved in to my neighbours barn and seems happy enough as there are no girl cats around, if there is no other food around they will go back in the trap - I have faith he knows where his food source is and running past you is not your fault when they are on a mission!!!

We have had a busy week with 10 cats at the vet on Saturday and Monday bought around the Chip and Chop for the Boris at 7 months he was a bit whiny on his return but is up trees today so no loss of service in his world, we also had Minmin Ragdoll and Cougar my first handrear in for dentals on Monday Minmin lost 1 tooth and Cougar lost 5 and it looks like he has bad arthritis in his back legs to but is enjoying the sunshine so not giving Metacam unless we have to and to round it off Sammy feral was rushed to the vets at 10pm on Monday he was very good for the vet till the thermometer got 5 injections and a night in isolation and seems fine now he is back in general population he threw up blood so daddy was in panic mode but all are now fine and OH could go back to work happily

Have to say that all is well here had Sky and Sunny Border Collies all clipped up and groomed and they are so much happier with less coat with the heat we are having and have had for the last month or so with only cool showers in the evenings and through the night

Hope all is well in your worlds off to walk the dogs and change over the washing as its all been dried outside so smells wonderful

Thanks Liz, he's still circling the block and shouting for sex.  :-[ Not quite worked out how I'm going to trap him if he comes inside the house as he's unlikey to want to go past me, and he's very much quicker than I am in a race.  :evillaugh:

Yes, I've called my vet telling them he's shot off, they've left the appointment open in case he does come in tonight but are ready if not.  :shify:

OH got home at 3pm and has been playing the feed-me-trap-me game ever since.   Ivan, seemingly, has nowhere else to go so hoping we can get him in.

We just had a bit of an embarrassing episode - arty neighbour knocked to say she could hear squealing from our garden and was missing one cat   :-[ Yup there was Spike. Duly released under the disapproving look from said Arty neighbour. She also mentioned her house has been pished in last night - and "clearly" it was my lately released Ivan who is doing this (she hasn't yet ordered her sureflap !) so I have no defence  :-[

Need him back.  :-:

No bother, he was good as gold all the way to the vet too. Neil's doing his op and isn't concerned that he might have managed a few mouthfuls before 3am as he won't operate until after lunch anyway.

Title: Re: Found cat E17 Black and White DLH - Ivan

Alvin started the "names with a V in" trend, then came Ivan and Vidal. Only Ivan remains so his name is still subject to change should he decide to move in with us permanently.

Once he's got the anaesthetic out of his system I'll be letting him go (with collar, obviously for a couple of weeks) and see if he still thinks his slaves here are up the the task.

Arty neighbour did spot him in her house yesterday (identified by his tell-tale white collar) so I think she's decided to order a sureflap to keep him, and others who have been in there marking their presence, out. It may push him in here with us a little quicker if he has limited food options with the neighbours.

Here he is!

The vets have featured him today, and if you scroll down, Alvin was on there a couple of weeks ago.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Walthamstow-Vets/358051467640257?fref=ts

He had a protest wee at the vets, while he was sitting down! So his fur is soaking underneath. Apparently this is a common thing. He behaved nicely otherwise and they're happy that his cuts and sweelings are healing nicely.

Hoping to keep him in tonight then see if he's fit to go wandering tomorrow afternoon. I'm working a shift tomorrow from home, great timing for once.  ;)

He was driving us all crazy, scratching and chirrupping to be let outside, so I've unlocked the catflap and off he went.
He's a local boy, well at least he knows his way around here, so he will be able to find his way back no problem, it's up to him now if he chooses to stay.

Catflap is still on all ways open mode, so it won't click and scare him away.

Fingers crossed now.  :crossed:

If he came in via the catflap voluntarily before, I'm sure he'll do it again.  He obviously knows where to call home.  And given that his hormones will be greatly reduced now due to his little op  ;) I think he'll be popping home again as soon as he gets hungry.  Will keep all my fingers and toes crossed anyway.

No sign of him. Of course he may have been back overnight, without setting the flap to "in" only I wouldn't know. The last sighting was around 4pm yesterday when he was in the garden.  :-:

Nice idea, Pav, but his only option is the catflap.

So sorry he isn't back yet     His hormones will take a while to settle down so I imagine the wanderlust is still with him.

An open flap and choice of outdoor cat homes is plenty given his recent history Sheila.  He'll come back when he is good and ready although it may take a while if he still has an outdoor food source.

Just hoping he keeps himself to himself and in no more fights meanwhile

Difficult to say really, there's a bit of a tomcat smeel and most of the food trays have been licked clean (not something my lot ever do) but it's not definite it's Ivan as the catflap is currently unlocked to all comers.

We went through something similar with Chuby, he disappeared for a couple of days but eventually came back for his grub, and never left after that, so maybe he just needs to re-familiarise himself with the big bad outdoors for a while.

I'll hang around as long as possible today but fear I'll be dragged into the office for a meeting later. Have been re-assigned.  :scared:

Thanks for the vibes  :thanks:

C'mon Ivan - get your butt home - you've got somewhere to call home now so how about putting in an appearance?  ;D  You'll be able to go out again.

Unless he's a stray who's found his way home now, I think he'll be popping in that cat flap again.  sooner rather than later I hope.

Have managed to blag a day at home and my heart jumps every time the catflap goes (which is almost constant in this house) so I'm like a mexican jumping bean. Hoping he makes an appearance soon.

I've decided I'm going to put the flap on in-only tonight, so if he is still around at least I'll knowand can check out his condition (and if Spike gets in again I can give him a squirt to make him think twice as his Mum - Arty Neighbour - is not happy for him to be too friendly with the neighbours and actively encourages me to be nasty to him  :-: )

Assignment is a mixed blessing, start next Monday.  :shify:

I feel for you, Sheila.  Before I got more "clued up" on strays and ferals we had a cat we dubbed "Random" who visited us sporadically.

He was unneutered to my knowledge and at that point in my life I wasn't sure how to proceed with the situation so just made sure he had food when he came to visit. He would let himself in the house on occasion which unnerved my cats somewhat as he was a beast of a cat. (There was never any evidence he tried to fight any of them though.)

He stopped coming as suddenly as he'd started and I often wonder what happened to him and hope he found somewhere if he didn't have a home already.

It makes me feel a little sick in hindsight because I feel I let him down. Another life lesson, there.
