Title: Feral dilema
Post by: BenLinz on July 30, 2009, 00:07:41 AM
am currently seeking a solution to a "kitten problem" in my local area. large quantties of ferals/abandoned pets breeding out of control. I am currently attempting to tame these cats enough to arrange a trap neuter release for them. Any advice from someone who has attempted this would be greatly appreciated.

At least 5 who are currently happy to come within sight of my house, at least 2 of these are VERY young kittens (estimate 4-5 months)

Hi Benlinz,

We had that problem where I live and what I did was contact our local CP.  I collected a trap and I trapped them gradually, I took them to the vets to get them spayed/neutered .  It has taken a while to get them all and I think there are still a couple around.  I didn't attempt to tame them, some kittens were found homes for but majority were released and three of us care for them I would say they are semi-feral now as they know us so well.

I think Mark was out recently on a feral trap too

do you have a Cat Action Trust anywhere near you, as they specialise in trapping ferals and arranging neutering

:) Great stuff, CP will explain everything, they did me initially.  I have often had to wait if traps were out (and had various types) but usually they aren't too long - I suppose it depends how busy they are and traps available, but at least they've given you other contacts.  Good luck!

Nope it's not the North East it is Yorkshire which is south of us here in the NE  ;D The North East is a specific region of its own - Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear and Tees Valley - small but perfectly formed
