You can get a flap that reads microchip numbers and allows them out if the number is allowed, costs £99 
Microchipping is a good idea if you havent got them done already 

The thing with flaps is that an adult cat can just ram their way through them when locked, they are not secure! Benglys are sure to find that out pretty soon as they are smart cats

Hubby has only found out that our front door pvc has a metal frame so it wouldn't work, and the infa red one we couldn't turn round as it would get wet.But thanks so much anyway

Why not put it in back to front, so to speak, so that the kittens can't go out but your older cats can go in and out.

Because our two older cats have been used to coming in and out as they please,and we are keeping the kittens in (except for the cat run)we have been thinking of getting a magnetic cat flap or infa red one.But hubby just found out by someone on the phone the magnetic cat flaps only stop other cats coming in, not coming out. Does anyone know of one that would stop the kittens going out through the cat flap,but not our other grown up cats.Other wise we have to watch them all the time. But maybe when the run is built the other two might not be so bothered about going out.
