I did come nose to nose with a young tortie tabby this morning though when I was gardening. Must find out where she lives - its the first cat of any description (other than Korky) that I've seen around here since the naughtie tortie at number 7 emigrated to Australia over a year ago!

That snow picture reminded me of last months issue of Vicky Hall's newletter. She featured some pictures of cats in snow. One of my friends snow cats was chosen for that issue. Rufus's picture would have been a wonderful addition to the group. I love to see kittens and cats discovering new things and I'm sure that cold snow was a funny thing to your dear Rufus. RIP little one.

The top two kitties, Sid and Lola belong to my dear friend Beckee.

We have an elderly one eyed tabby called Nelson. Hes brain damaged and quite often on a different planet but loves a fuss.He's one of these cats who brups every time you stroke him.

We also have the terrible twins - Fred and Doris. Always up to no good and always terrorising their older brothers and sisters.A sleeping cat is always fair game to jump on as far their concerned. As soon as theyve disturbed them, they consider their work done and they slink off to tag team another innocently sleeping puss.

I am not sure that she qualified as a "proper" tabby - more tortie/tabby - but she was beautiful in my eyes and in the eyes of many of her friends. Dottii x

Just thought I would include some of my little furry babe, Sally. I dont know how old she is but im guessing mid teens (human years). She is diabetic, arthritic and has OLD (obsessive licking disorder!) to the point where she has made herself bald and very poorly on several occasions, so hence the lampshade!! But I love her dearly :Luv2:. All the tabbies on here are absolutely gorgeous and I could sit and look at them all day! :hug:

There is no way on Earth I can even begin to tell you of Hannibal. Or the huge part of my soul he inhabits.

I was young then. Had left home to go to University. Home was a smallish town - albeit with a renowned U of its own. But I went away. To McGill. In Montreal. At 16.

Spent 2 years in residence then moved into an apartment. My Muff came with me. My Muff is a whole 'nother story...... Anyway, I was in classes and labs all day every day. She was lonely. I decided (after she had ripped the squeeker out of the umpteenth toy!) to get her a 'friend'. That's when Duty came to us. Ah... my Duty..... She too needs a story of her own (but, being B&W, her story will have to wait...) A month later a friend of mine said "I understand you like cats. My friend has this kitten. Last of the litter...."

And so it was that one day in July I hiked on up to the Montreal General Hospital (where her friend worked) and brought my baby home.

He was so small. Grey tabby. Who knew.........

Long story short, Hannibal became the head of the family. Never raised a paw to anyone - they just knew he was king. People I hardly knew would come into the house (by then populated with many, many cats) and see him and stop. He is the one they all remember.

And yet he never 'did' anything. He was just a presence. So many other cats - flashier, some with what people consider 'pedigrees' - and yet HE was the one that they instantly saw. And stopped and commented on.

He was our rock. Our Father. The world pretty much ended when he died.

He lived for a good 15 years though. Saw many, many, many (too many?) new kitties into this home. And we remember him still.

A little grey tabby. Who loved Beethoven. Would lie curled around my neck while we listened - but would give a low growl if I so much as tried to hum along. Only with Beethoven, though. Didn't care what I did with any of the others......

Hannibal. ... He who became the heart and soul and courage and so much more of us all.

The wee soul sat and watched it for just under and hour. She'd lean close to it then go "oooo, it's hot" and back off, then do it again a while later. It was so funny. Silly moo that she is. This is the first time I've had a tab cat and I love them. Such laid back kitties cool kitties!

This photo was taken when he was 11 weeks old, and he has just the most stunning ears!

The other one is of his older full sister Lily, who was only 6 weeks old at the time. She is a year older (from the previous litter) and they are so alike it`s unbelievable! They even sleep curled up in the same position, with one paw over their noses. They are such good friends and play together for hours.

I got Lily from a friend last year, and the owner "forgot" to get her spayed in time, hence the gorgeous Gary. Mum now booked in!!

I have 2 ways to name cats. One is to ask the kids I work with for suggestions, and they came up with Gary from Spongebobsquarepants. I was thinking of Keith, Martin or Bobby! ;) I also have chickens called Mavis, Ruby and Camilla by the same process. :rofl:

My dad always said you should give a cat a name you wont be embarrassed to shout at 4 am when they wont come in! :rofl:Good advice I`ve found over the years. I had one called Mr Dribbles, and that did prove a tad embarrassing in the vets. :-[ Wont make that mistake again! lol

Their mum is a short coated tortie who is owned by someone I work with. Lily was from her first litter. Unfortunately she got caught again before the owner was able to get her spayed. Gary is from her 2nd llitter. I think they have the same dad, a short coated tabby, as they are so alike in personality and looks.

Gary`s 2 brothers are also here on foster, (hint hint, look in rehoming thread!) lol looking for a new home, either together or apart. Jospeh is a short coated classic tabby, just like his dad. Dylan is a very pretty ginger and white, also short coated. The 4th from their litter is a fluffy ginger and white, so variety is eveything!
