My good friend Alison and her OH have asked me to put the feelers out with purrs people to look for a kitten they can adopt ;D
They live in Winsford, Cheshire in a house with garden in a sort of courtyard off a cul-de-sac (at least I am near certain its a cul-de-sac because I always drive there in the dark!) Ali says I will be her cat advisor so obviously will be advising of best practise etc and all the things I didn't know when I first got Cheese and I hadn't found CatChat yet!
She says shes been on CatChat and shes really excited about being a meowmy - I will have to get her to sign up on here and keep an eye on this thread :)
Not really sure what else to say - I think they will be good kitty-parents. They have fallen in love with our cats and the cats next door to them so they know what to expect (especially as our lot are so crazy  )
-
Put them in touch with Paws Inn ... I am sure T will have some lovelies wanting a home and Claire can subby in T's absence ...
-
Unless you have to pass through Coventry when you go visit them ;)
-
Does it have to be a kitten or will she consider older ones :shy:
-
Ali found Paws Inn on CatChat but with T being in hospital I wasn't sure whether to enquire as didn't want to be pressurising about adoptions etc :-:
Dawn, she said kitten when she asked me to find out, but I will double check with her :shy:
-
It's a shame you can't get her interested in Magnolia :shy:
-
Dawn, whilst T is out Paws Inn will still welcome enquiries on rehoming any of the current residents. So your friend still has an option there, Claire or T's hubby can still try to help. ;) The website has been updated today to reflect that.
-
More than ever, with Teresa in hospital, Paws Inn is overflowing and I know as a certainty would welcome an enquiry from a good home. The Inn is full to bursting with cats of all ages...
Your friend might like to consider Pumpkin?
-
Hi Dawn,
I have sent you a PM - I am happy to be pressurised about adoptions at any time! I would do anything to find any of the gorgeous cats at the Inn the right loving home.
Claire xx
-
Thanks for your help guys - I have passed on all info and I am going to send her the link to the thread :shy:
-
Hello!
Dawn has just shown me this thread. It is my partner and my self who are looking for a kitty to call our own. We would prefer a younger cat as we'd love to see it grow, but I am a sucker for a sob story.
I have never owned a cat before (plenty of hamsters and rabbits, but no cats). Does anyone have any tips for me on what to look for?
Also does anyone have any nugets of information that they would like to pass on regarding their expereinces with their first kitty?
Thank you in advance!
:shy:
-
such a long time ago. I think for a first kitty a slightly older cat would be best - they are less demanding and you have a better idea what you are getting - some adorable and affectionate kittens grow into grumpy old curmudgeons. Otherwise, get them from a reputable rescue rather than a pet shop, and make sure they have bright eyes, and healthy looking fur ...
-
Hi and welcome to Purrs :welcome: I would also consider an older one, kittens are really hard work but if you have your heart set on a kitten, I would go for two rather than one, this way they will be company for each other if you're not around. What would be best for you would depend on circumstances really, ie if you work full/part time, if it's a case of you working, I would definitely go for an older one. As far as sob stories go, I take it you've met Magnolia, she's looking for a home ;)
-
I was going to email you this but I might as well stick it on here so you have this thread for reference...
To get accessories, toys, good quality food etc for your new arrival a great place to go is Zooplus
www.zooplus.co.uk (if you click on the link at the bottom of each page on here and buy through there the rescues supported by purrs get a % from Zooplus)
Zooplus do good cat trees/scratchers which is a must if you want to save the furniture (definitely don't want scratch marks on your nice new sofas! ;) )
Also for anything like Frontline (flea prevention) and worming tablets etc Vet UK is good
www.vetuk.co.uk
-
I'll bare that in mind. I think we'd prefer just the one kitty for starters, though we might look at a second in the future.
It has to be a cat that is good around other cats as several of our neighbours are also meowmys.
-
definitely don't want scratch marks on your nice new sofas! ;)
Too right! It's hard enough protecting them from Craig!
-
Too right! It's hard enough protecting them from Craig!
You'll have to come here soon and we can talk cats ;)
-
Didn't we say Good Friday? I don't know why, but that sticks out in my mind.
:-:
Why is it that black and white ones seem to be the hardest to home. I think they are gorgeous!
-
I know! Its strange - the same goes for black cats - apparently some people think they are boring! >:( (Obviously not me :heeee heeee: )
I would love a B&W - I especially love kitties with little white socks - soooo cute ;D
I knew I suggested Good Friday but wasn't sure if it was agreed - can you actually eat chocolate etc then? Or is lent until easter Sunday? Just so I know what to prepare!
-
I would love a B&W - I especially love kitties with little white socks - soooo cute ;D
Maybe your next foster kitty can have little white socks :evillaugh:
-
Oooh I never knew cat racism existed. I think they all look cute!
Still lenting until easter sunday I'm afraid, so no crisps, biccys or chcocs! It's killing me!
-
Maybe your next foster kitty can have little white socks :evillaugh:
Or maybe I can dip Mags in paint :evillaugh:
We bought new litter to try the other day and it was a big dusty so Cheese had dusty white socks
-
Does her tail still have a mind of it's own :evillaugh:
Awww poor Cheese :evillaugh: What cat litter was it?
-
She hasn't done that thing with her tail for a long time! I have learnt not to touch it though and only touch the head and top part of the body so I think thats probably why she doesn't do it anymore.
I say new litter but its just the lightweight white gravelly stuff - Phil got it from the tesco express cause we were desperate and because it came in a different packet, thought it was something exciting we hadnt tried  it is so dusty though! Have to keep hoovering :evillaugh:
-
Just a quick update.
I've now put the wheels in motion to get a couple of the lovley kitties from Paws Inn. They are going to be doing a home check soon, so keep your fingers crossed for me.
x
-
Fingers crossed for you!
I'm so jealous ;)
-
are they on the website? which ones!!
-
We would like to give a forever home to Toby and Oliver, but we are keeping an open mind just incase. :)
-
Toby and Oliver are lovely - I have had the pleasure of meeting them :wow: Here they are:

-
Aww, black and b/w, your not cat racist!
-
I've just been out on my lunch looking at cat related things. What size cat scratching post is best? There are so many different ones; it's mind boggling!
-
My boys really like the Fat boy scratching post. It's about 1 metre high and nice and big. They have a good scratch and can reach right up to stretch. They also like using it as a perch and place to leap off. Actually I have just had another one delivered today for another room! You can get them for about £20 from Surrey Pet Supplies (I think that's the name , they are on the web if you google them). You have to pay for delivery but if you are buying a few things it still works out cheaper than other places.
-
Oooh thanks for that. I'll have a look now.
:wow:
-
Zooplus sell scratching posts. Their link is at the bottom of this page, click it and purrs earns commision on your order ;) you also get 10% off your first order ;) ;)
I would suggest that with any big /tall post u get it has more than 2 "legs" on the bottom level so that it is nice and sturdy.
-
I was going to suggest the FatBoy post as well, my boy Max is a very stury boy, and he can scratch at full stretch and really pull on it, its never come close to tipping over. Defo recommend it.
-
Ali if you are buying stuff from Surrey Pet Supplies, have a look at the automatic feeders - they are good prices and also very useful if you go away for an evening etc ;D
The only pain with these I found was that they HAVE to deliver 9-5 - its not like you can pick it up from a sorting office because they don't use Royal Mail - so perhaps get the stuff sent to work if you can :shy:

Oooh ta for the tip. I hate deliveries like that. I've got one arriving tomorrow that is coming between 7am and 7pm... how useful! >:(
-
I get my stuff delivered to the office as someone is always in to receive it. The only problem is that everyone in the office knows how much I have bought for my babies and they think I'm mad!! Usually get comments, 'Not more stuff for your cats?' or 'Another delivery for the cat lady!' I argue that it's only because I have just got them and they are indoor cats so need lots of stimulation.
I have one of those automatic feeders and it's great even if I'm going back late in the evening. I also got some treat balls and left them this morning having to work for their biscuits. Will see when I get back how they have managed.
-
Zooplus is also really good. I have the cat tree that's uses banana leaves to make the baskets. It is a bit more expensive than the others but looks nicer and is quite sturdy. My boys love it. And zooplus deliver really quickly too.
-
Oooh the road check thingy has been done. Teresa did it on the way back from the hospital. Now that's dedication for you!
We are going to visit them on Saturday and meet Toby and Oliver. ;D I can't wait!
x
-
My goodness T is naughty
If you are going to buy from zooplus please use the link at the bottom of our pages ;D

And they NEVER come at 7am :innocent: I had my modem delivered on a Special Delivery "before 9am" hoping it would arrive before I went to work, but it still didnt :tired:
Awwww I want to go too, I saw them when they were wee tiny :Luv:
-
Just caught up with this thread and it's soooooooo exciting ;D
Toby and Oliver are gorgeous :Luv: :Luv:
I adopted Guinness and Widget from Teresa almost a year ago now. They are B&Ws too and just as gorgeous :Luv: yes I'm biased :evillaugh:
Oooops forgot my manners :ooops: Hi Alison and :welcome: to Purrs
Hope the visit goes well on Saturday and can't wait to hear all about it :)
-
Just dropping by to see if there is any news yet :naughty:
-
Craig and I had a lovely time at Paws Inn meeting some of the gorgeous kitties. We wanted to take them all home. Minimopsical is gorgeous!
Craig and I have decided to offer a forever home to Toby and Oliver. We will be picking them up on the 28th, which gives us enough time to get all the necessities that we need for them.
Any tips on welcoming these two gorgeous chaps into our home? OOOooooh I'm so excited!!
-
:cheer: you are getting naughty kittens from Paws Inn. I am aunt to Ellie's boys as my sister adopted their sister Pippa. Teresa herself says Paws Inn prides itself on producing naughty kittens. So well done. We look forward to hearing all about how Toby and Olly
take over join your home. :Luv2:
-
Scuse me Aunty Ruth Toby and Oliver are well behaved gentlecats and very well mannered too
-
Of course T. ;) I get it. ;) Can't be saying different now.. (whisper) let them find out for themselves heh? :evillaugh:
Pippa says: Aunty T, I was well behaved. I've never tossed my toys all over the house, jumped on the furniture when someone has a cup of tea in their hands, never climbed the curtains (that's true, Guinness did that one), and never woken my mum up.
-
:congrats: on adopting Oliver and Toby :)

Guinness says: Sis I know nothing about climbing curtains :evillaugh: Widge and I are really well behaved we always make sure Mummy doesn't sleep in :naughty: it's not our fault that when Mummy comes down the stairs and we decide to stop half way down :naughty: Susan's room needed decorating we were just helping by stripping the paper :naughty: also we never toss the toys all over the house, chase each other at 3am, spit our worming tablets out when Mummy's not looking ... oooops Mummy's coming back :naughty: later Sis :evillaugh:
Alison and Craig congrats on becoming cat slaves owners :) despite what Guinness says the things that Paws Inn kitties do give you are more trust and unconditional love you can could ever imagine, tears of laughter when they play, the joy when one comes to sit on your lap and purrs ....... the list is endless :Luv2:
Can't wait to hear all about them and see lots of pics of course :sneaky:
-
I even remember Pippa having perfect spelling until she went to live down south
As for Guinness and Widget they won a diploma in the art of troublemaking, obviously this has stood them in good stead for keeping their human fit and healthy
Toby and Oliver are Amelia`s kittens (from the Cupboard cats) and honestly they really are gentle and graceful and really angelic, its my guess they will make wonderful 4am alarm clocks

It's a good thing I'm a heavy sleeper! Craig on the other hand.... :evillaugh:
-
The best thing is Ali and Craig just can't put the kitties out of the bedroom at night soooooo :evillaugh:
So excited for you! :)

-
Have you picked those gorgeous boys up yet Alison? ;D
-
Not yet. We are going to pick them up after work tonight.
I can't wait!!! ;D
-
Well Toby and Oliver have been with us for a few hours now and are starting to settle down. Oliver has set up camp in the bed in our scratching post and Toby is currently sniffing around the food bowl. We were a little worried at first as he pain refused to come out of the carrier. It's amazing what a bit of time and a toy can do. :Luv2:
I'll try and take some pictures tomorrow. I didn't want to spook them too much on their first night with us.
We are thinking of chnaging their names as we thought it'd be a nice way to welcome them to the family. Do you think this would confuse them too much though? :-:
-
Yay welcome to the world of becoming a cat
slave owner :evillaugh:
Sounds as if they are making themselves at home already ;D
As for changing their names, I doubt if it would confuse them. I adopted Guinness and Widget from the wonderful Paws Inn and they had several names before we settled on the ones they have now :evillaugh: Plus, as my boys are so alike, I often call them by the wrong name :-[ :evillaugh:
Can't wait to see the pics and congrats again :Flowers:
-
Hi Ali
Well done, you have TWO babies!!! (snigger)
I don't think its too bad changing their names, they are young still. Pippa, Guinness and Widget's sister and my beautiful furry niece, kept her name. My sister loved it and thought it suited her personality. Naught and cheeky. And we call her Pipsqueak too :evillaugh: the boys will adjust, though I do have to say I love their names now :Luv:
-
Hello again. :hi:
We've decided to call them Tachi (Toby) and Vader (Oliver). You can tell who picked which name. As they sounds quite similar to their orginal names, we are hoping they will take to them ok.
They were so good during the car ride home from Paws Inn. I was really surprised. Craig sat in the back with the carrier to keep them company.
When we got them in, Vader got out and had a good nose around then decided to hide under my computer table. Tatchi stayed in the carrier for a good hour before I made a fuss of him. He still hasn't left the kitchen yet though. It's just going to take a bit of time as they both seem very nervous. I've seen on a website that reading to them might help so I'm going to try that.
As requested here are some pics of the gorgeous twosome.

Beautiful. And I do like the new names too .. very appropriate ;)
-
Awww they are both gorgeous :Luv2: :Luv2:
Love the names :evillaugh:
Their ears are so cute at that age :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Awww they are gorgeous!!! :Luv:
Congratulations Ali, you are a meowmy of two ;D
Hope Tachi and Vader are settling in well today, I had to coax mini Cheese out of the carrier with food at first, it will take a bit of time with all the new smells etc but they will be less nervous when they are used to their new "parents" :)
So excited for you - although you now realise that black or white clothing is out of the question?
-
The lint roller is my new best friend.
Tachi is being more social now, but Vader has taken to hiding under my computer table. Hopefuly he'll come out again soon.
-
Ahhhh they are gorgeous so pleased they are settling in OK.
The following link may be of interest to help with overcoming nervouseness: http://www.wizz-catz.co.uk/bonding.html and http://www.wizz-catz.co.uk/timidcat.html
-
Oooh thatnks I'll have a good read of those!
They are currently running round the house like crazy. ;D They are so cute when they are playing. They are still a little unsure of us though. They are eating well though and all the pees and poos are going in the right place. (I hope I don't speak too soon! ;))
-
Hi Alison so pleased they are using their tray :evillaugh:
We have had the boys for almost a year now and Widget is still very wary of people. Guinness on the other hand is a tart :tired: and falls at the feet of anyone that will give him a fuss or tummy rub :naughty:
It will take time for them to get used to you and their surroundings
Great that they are running about playing ;D
Do they wake you up during the night? :evillaugh:
-
Do they wake you up during the night? :evillaugh:
They did a bit late night, just becuase we could hear them running about. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper though, so it isn't a big problem. Craig on the other hand...
-
Congratulations on your new arrivals they look a bundle of mischief, especially the black and white one. I should know cos Ive got one of those myself
-
Alison
Pippa is sending you big hugs for giving the boys a home and freeing up a Pen for her; I am sure Dawn C. is busy telling you how very happy she is now.
Give the boys a big hug from me.
-
I certainly will... if they sit still long enough. ;)
-
Awww the boys are gorgeous! ;D
Even if they did both discover a love for biting/licking my fingers  :evillaugh:
Ali and Craig make a good meowmy and dad - the babies have only been there 2 days and have TONS of toys including a monkey on a stick
Can't believe I didn't take any pictures, not like me at all :evillaugh:
T, I think Phil is in love with Pippa :Luv:
-
Don't dis the monkey on a stick!! It's a great toy...
ok I like it more than the cats....
