are male-male integrations more difficult than male-female ones?

I only have experience with one male cat and he his the most accepting cat ever - I don't know if he would be the same with males. In theory, they are supposed to e the same after neutering but I'm not so sure about that  :evillaugh:

I'm in central London Dawn.  I think it will be a while for the right cat to come up...female, 12years plus, hypoallergenic (therefore a single coat pedigree), used to other cats, no medical problems that would not be covered by pet insurance, indoors only...maybe this will give me time to make my mind up though! :)

What area are you in?  I know there was a female looking for a home but needed to be where someone was in most of the time as she was a little bit of a chewer.  Not sure if she's still going or not.  I do know where there are others for rehoming but they've all had problems and I would be dubious getting them homed with another  :tired:

i saw her, she is lovely, but I am looking for an indoor only cat as I live on the 11th floor.  I also need a cat that is as hypoallergenic as possible as my partner is allergic to cats, can cope with single coat orientals (with histamines) just.  we don't live together (only because we couldn't face giving our own cats up for adoption!) but I still need to minimise reactions for when they come to my home.

i was made aware of an 11year old red point yesterday, the trouible is it is a male - i am not at all sure my Castle will accept another male, he has only ever known his sister!  are male-male integrations more difficult than male-female ones?

If you are thinking of a companion for Castle, there is a lovely 12 year old Siamese cross girl, called Ginger still looking for a home. She is in Herne Bay, Kent at the moment.

http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,16816.0.html

I saw the poster up at the vets yesterday as well.

Going by her description, she sounds the perfect companion  :Luv2: "a little timid around other pets although she often likes to 'mother' other cats"

thank you everyone for the kind words...Stormie is indeed hugely missed.  I am so glad I wrote the blog about her, I haven't yet had the strength to go back to Day One when we first discovered the cancer (Christmas 2006) and read through the blog from start to finish...but I wil do.  it is great to dip into it and remember her though...the first blog post is here if you are interested http://thefurryfighter.blogspot.com/2006/12/not-such-great-christmas-present.html

i have to try and draw some positives as I still feel that Stormie was taken from us a little too early (12 years and 5 months old).  her experience has encouraged a lot of people who read her blog to take out pet insurance - especially amongst her american readers (it is not such a big thing over there).  her blog has also been a source of strength for people who discover their cat has lymphoma...they can see that you can beat the odds (Storm lived for 18 months instead of the predicted 6-9months). Storm's vet, who saw her through the whole illness, is also becoming a good friend, he is such a wonderful and gentle person and it is great to have people like that in your life.

Storm's brother...well, he is better than he was some weeks ago and only calls occasionally during the day now, usually in the morning for a minute or two. he seems much more relaxed than he did but I am sure he misses her, they were liter-mates.  i allowed him to see Storm's body after she was PTS and i think it definitely helped, he washed her and lay next to her for two hours.  he used to get incredibly upset and visibly depressed when she had to spend a day or two at the vet i.e. disappear - he hasn't done that this time, his behaviour is different, it seems like he is understanding, not confused.  my only issue with him is that he spends 9 hours a  day on his own now when I am at work(my partner or i do pop in to see him during our lunch hours though)...hence why i am considering a companion for him.  i need to give him time to adjust, if he doesn't adjust though then i will see about adopting an older cat to keep him company.

gosh..i have rambled..apologies! x

Sorry to bump up a thread from a while ago but thought you might like to see Melissa,

She has gained quite a bit of weight and now loves long cuddles and fusses all the time.  She is very nervous of everyone other than me still but is getting better every day.  She now likes whiskas mixer instead of the Royal Canin but other than that still enjoys fresh fish and meat.  Last night I cooked her tuna and rice.

Anyway hope everyone is well today.  And here is Melissa (Missa)

Hiya Desley

She is eating applaws and that is mixed with the Royal Canin Siamese mix and then she has a bowl of the Siamese biscuits as well.  A big difference from the tea spoon of food that she was taking in the first week. She is now polishing the lot off over two meals every day. :)

If you are only feeding her Applaws, do make sure she eats a decent amount of biscuits as well, as Applaws isn't a complete food.

OOh thats better!- I should have tried lighteningthem- Thank you  :Luv:

Only problem now is that you can clearly see the paint on the kitchen wall where I ran out- Honestly its not mould .

Melissa is now eating a tin of applaws a day (the larger size) mixed with Siamese mix and also a seperate bowl of Siamese mix biscuits.  She also likes the odd bit of fish, prwn, ham etc.  She has not been sick at all since the first couple of days she was here and apart from the fact that you wouldnt know there was a kitty in the  house becasue she hides all the time, she is doing so so well.  I LOVES HER  ;D

Sorry its taken so long, Melissa is a little camera shy!.  She runs off to the safety of her wigwam when I switch the camera on.

Her new black collar has "diamonds" on the other side but she didnt want anyone to see them ;D.    It is also a breakaway one.

I only wish her friend that went missing could see her now!- she has put on a lot of weight and is doing really well.
