I am sure they will. I was at my wits end with Pavarotti (who used to pee on my face when I was in bed).

I'm sorry BC but that sentance has made me smile  :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

Relieved that these babes are still on this earth. thank heaven they had a change of heart.
My Zubi P's in the corners but hey - I just clean it up - I have no put plastic matting up the corners so bits crossed.

My oldest tom once walked up to me after I'd done a days work at the local rescue, stood on me and then proceeded to mark his territory. Was pretty unpleasant but my friend thought it was hysterical. :tired: It is pretty awful when cats mark their territory in such a pungent manner.

Glad they're both safe, though. Like BC says, perseverance is the key.

I am sure they will. I was at my wits end with Pavarotti (who used to pee on my face when I was in bed, due to 'ownership' issues) and came sooooooooo close to PTS on many occasions. If you love your animals you will hang out whenever there is a possibility of a solution, and these people seem like they are willing to give anything a try. Good on you for negotiating the situation .........  ;D

The cats are still with us  :briggin:

The owners just couldn't go through with it. I have offered to help find them somewhere for at least one of them as it's the only way to get it resolved but whether they take me up on it is another matter.

Fingers crossed this can be resolved!!!!!!!!!!!

I have PMed her a couple of times, and asked her to let me know, but she said it was out of her hands and up to her relative now.

I don't even feel angry with them, they are obviously going on what the vet has said and who wouldn't if they didn't know any better? Like someone else, the blame lies with the vet who is prepared to do this.

My heart dropped when I read her reply to you. It's easy for me to say, but if that was MY relative, I would offer to take the cats in and then rehome them from my place if I had to. But then I don't know the full situation and can't appreciate what she might be going through. . . . .

I do hope there is good news at the end of all this . . . . .

Just had an update - poor girl, but I really need more details to have been able to help and I feel so helpless  :(

Hi Adelcats,

I've spoken to my relative on text and it looks like I'm going to have to leave it down to their decision. I've given them details of a sanctuary but everyone is so upset I don't want to cause more grief by pushing the issue. I have cried and cried about this and it breaks my heart but as they're not my cats I can't make the decision. At this moment I don't know what's happening I can only hope for the best. I appreciate your offer of help, I genuinely do, the only reason I've not posted this on the thread is because I don't want people to jump on me or them and I can't do any more. I really did try.

I've replied, but she can't really do much. I guess I just wanted the owners to know that there ARE alternatives, but we can;t always move at lightening speed

*I feel blue*  :( :'(

Thanks  :thanks:

I think I just feel passionately about soiling cats as my own was nearly PTS because of it and she is as fit and healthy as any other 7 year old. I love her so much and I just couldn't bear the thought that she could have not been here just because of stress  :(

I'll try and find out what happens but maybe I don't want to know...

I've just checked the tread again and she has contacted a local rescue centre, but the poster hasn't been too forthcoming with information so it's been quite difficult to help. I can't really do much else if she hasn't mailed me or told me what's happening.

I think it's hard for her as she is a relative and it ultimately her relative's decision. I think that they have taken what the vet has said as law and it's so obvious that they could be helped by being re-homed - it's so sad that whist there are many wonderful vets, there are still those out there who are prepared to do this - i'm so mad. Aparently rescue centres that she has contacted, have said the same thing which seems insane as most of us here in rescue have dealt with soiling cats and know it can be resolved.

I am trying to put it out of my mind as, like I said, I can't do any more if I haven't even got the information of where in the North West she is  >:(

Reads like it started before the baby arrived?

I bet if one was rehomed, they would both stop spraying.

Very likely

I can't believe a vet would recommend this. Sadly we are full, but it might be worth finding out exactly where in the North West and then checking CC's page.

What a bad vet for even suggesting this.

I wonder what she has done to help the situation cos it definately sounds stress related, needs a behaviourist to sort it out.

You could be right Mark or it could be the arrival of the baby that has started it.

Where abouts in the North West is this cos it doesnt give long to sort this out as its easter Monday tomorrow.  :(

Cross posted - Two 12 yo cats to be PTS Wednesday
« Reply #5 on: March 23, 2008, 20:29:40 PM »
This is origionally from Catsey and the poster is in the North West...

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and am looking for some help.

A relative of mine has 2 older cats - one being 12 the other older I think, that are due to be PTS on Wednesday. The reason for this is the both of them continually spray even though they have both been neutered. They have been back and forth to the vets and tried various different methods to stop them spraying but nothing works. It's now the vets suggestion that they be PTS as they are old and if they go into rescue will probably end up being brought back over and over for the same reason.

My relative has thought this through for the last two years, she now has an 18 month old baby and one on the way and the cats have even been spraying the pram. She is totally heartbroken that is has come to this but doesn't want them to be put through the stress of possibly being re-homed again and again. I would love to take them on but due to having a house rabbit, a lizard and fish it's not possible. I really wish it was.

I'm trying to find someone who would take them on (probably seperate as they're not exactly the best of friends) that is aware of the problem and is ok with having to clean up after them. Obviously, it would not be good for someone who has or is planning children. The owners have tried to find someone to help without success.

If anyone knows of someone or is that someone willing to take on one of these beautiful cats please pm me. I really don't know what else I can say, we're all absolutely gutted.

Thanks

I've urged her to try rescue centres and the fact that soiling can be stopped if the cat is taken away from it's situation. I've given her CP head office number, but don't really know any rescues in the North West - is there anyone who can help?!

I have replied to the poster about my cast who was re-homed to me after 2 years of soiling. After being moved here, she has not once soiled and just needed taking out of her situation.

Hopefully the poster may re-think and contact a rescue centre to help.

If you change the topic of this to something more urgent, hopefully we can get a nearby rescue to help!

Has the poster tried to re-home at all, or just gone to the vets?

Woman has just posted saying her friend's cats ( two 12 year olds) are due to be PTS on Wednesday as they are constantly spraying.  They have been neutered and it has still continued so the vet has recommended PTS.  The woman has an 18 month old baby and they are spraying on the pram.  The poster looks like she is based in North West  :(
