Lovely adorable Gus went to his new home day.. How many people do you get ringing up taking on a 14 yr old plus puss with thyroid problems?

Makes me really very happy... and i hope he has a few years left in him yet..

I picked up Gus this morning, he is a handsome dark ginger and white puss.. Very loving and very vocal...

He is with our emergency fosterer.. I dont know if it is vet wise feasible, but he looks in such good nick that we may think about seeing if our vet will consider thyroid opp, to see if we can get him off these tablets. But thats a way off.

He is very handable and loves cuddles..

I gather from his notes at the vets that the solicitors got involved deciding on this ladies estate. No family etc. They signed him over and really thta was it. But the vets didnt really try very hard to find him a rescue to go into, perhaps just too much bother..

Just to let you know.. This puss is called Gus...
Anyhows through lots of hoop jumping this puss is being signed over us and going to an emergency fosterer (not ideal but better then being dead) until we devise a plan.. He will need a home though ASAP..

His owner died today, and the hospice seeing that things were grim signed him over to the vets where he was due to be PTS today.

Anyhows Gus lives another day..

But, pls Purss people we will be looking to rehome him asap if a loving home can be found for  him.

And when I took a cat in the other day, there was sick & poo all over the cage. The VN took it out the back and hosed it down and disinfected straight away. They really are the best - I transferred mine over to them  :Luv2:
and she was really nice to me when the other cat escaped  :Luv2:

They are also the ones that when I asked for a "ball park" figure on Alice's exploratory, the vet said money didn't come into it and getting her better was the only important thing  :Luv2:

Well, it still isn't cut and dried. We do have a plan of sorts but much depends on the vet where puss is lodged at present - that's if the PTS order hasn't already been executed.
We have our own, regular, nice vet who is willing to board puss until a better place can be found. We're hoping that vet one will release the cat into vet 2's care, and from there we'll nab puss.  ;) So it's up to professional curtecy and stuff now.  :shify:

And while I'm here, can I just say if ever anyone hears of a national award or competition for the best vet in the rescue world, please let me know.  ;) These people deserve a medal for the way they will drop everything and take in a puss for us at minutes notice. One day, there were six CP volunteers and fosterers in their waiting room dealing with unconnected cases. And it's not like we are forced to use these vets, but we do tend to prefer good service.  :naughty:

That's it I'm buying a Euro lottery ticket tonight and winning the 95 mil. Then opening up my Rescue with extra bits for babes like this one. Then EVERY kitty will have a home.

I dont ask for much in life and I dont want then money for myself, it is to open a rescue to help kitties. Who deserve a second chance and deffinatly love and warmth.
*Now on my knees praying I win*

you're behind me in the queue - but I'lll give you some of the £95 million so you can open up anothr one! ;D

I had initial contact from the matron of the hospice a couple of weeks back via the branch line. She was asked to find a cheaper and more perminant care for this cat as he was lodged at the vets on a fee of £18 a day! I think they were hoping we'd foster the cat but we can't really do that. I did say that we were able to rehome the cat if it was signed to our care but she said she didn't think that was viable as no one knew whether the owner would get better or not. Hospices are notorious at never admitting defeat.  :shy:

I did give her contact details for Cinnimon Trust. I also said one of our fosterers runs a commercial cattery and would take the cat as a client on a much, much cheaper daily rate until things were known for certain. The only stipulation was that puss is up to date with vacs. I called the matron 3 times to remind her and each time she said she would speak to relatives. No one got back to us.

I think getting anyone's cooperation in this case is going to be the problem. Especially when their minds are focused on their very sick relative.  :'( :'(

Cinnamon trust do yes, but it might have to be done by the owner (dont have my paperwork to hand) - the other problem is that they don't always have volunteers in that area.

would it not be worth contacting the Cinnamon Trust, I know they deal with dogs, do they deal with cats as well?

Senior Ginger puss at vets on thyroid meds, owner in care, possible PTS UPDATE
« Reply #1 on: February 07, 2008, 20:53:14 PM »
I am posting this incase our branch is unable to  help (due to space at the moment) we are unable to help.. My niece works for a out of hours vets.. They have a ginger male neutered senior cat that has been there for 3wks he is on thyroid tablets but takes them okay. No other problems..

The owner is in hospice care and i think the relatives are dealing with her affairs.. Puss has kind of been abandoned by all. I am not sure if the vets have him signed over but he is on a countdown to be PTS if no one takes him soon.

I know more details tomorrow, and will find out more about the owner and who is the one dealing with him.. I reckon the loving owner is poorly so the cats relatives have taken control and due to his meds feel that they cannot now cope..

I am not sure if anyone can help here.

Puss is very affectionate, starved of being made a fuss off and stroked and deserves more i think in his old age.. Reckoned to be 12 yrs

There is a possiblity we can get  him transferred to another vet so he is not on the PTS list for the future, but it depends on the vet that is treating him willl play ball. This of course is no long term solution because he needs a home!
