Title: Wooden Cat Plant Pot Holder. Amazing! Just had to have 1.
Post by: Purrlishious on September 09, 2009, 22:34:28 PM
I was out today & drove passed a man in a lay-by who had loads of wooden cat & dog hand made plant holders for sale.

Did a U turn & went to see how much they were. £10! I couldnt resist!

Im sure he would sell a few on here.

Thing is ~ is it going to be a plant pot holder, or a holder for a cat???

Arh Mark, the memories of the bulk IKEA tents!

These would be a little bit heavier to post!!

I will go & see if he is there today & ask him if he would take postal orders.

I live in Wakefield W.Yorks if anyone is near.

Where are you Janeyk?

If you know Newmiller Dam up the hill as if going to Barnsley & past St Pierre Motel, he is on a lay-by a little bit further up the road.
Don't think he is always there, but will ask when for you if he is there today.

Martin was there today with his little wooden friends.

Hope you like the pics.

The boxes measure 12" X 8"  £10 but as you can see, there are some little puppies too £5. Hopefully he is going to make some kittens when he can.

If you are interested & desperate in having one as I was you can contact him by email ma014k7119@blueyonder.co.uk

I do have Martins phone no. so if you contact me by IM I can let you have it.

As you can imagine they are quite heavy so that would add to the cost if posted.

SO CUTE

Martin you are doing a fantastic job - I've been given your contact numbers and will be in touch asap for a cat and I think a duck too after seeing that one.

:welcome: to purrs by the way.  Do you have any real live cats or just wooden ones?

Here's a pic of my Bonnie if you want to try and do a tabby.

Post by: dogplant on September 13, 2009, 16:16:50 PM
hello mary,,,,thanks for the remarks......messages like that make it all worth while....

i havnt done a tabby like yours yet but i am sure willing to give him a go...

the only problem is because im not an artist and trying to get something exact is more or less impossible...it looks like a 3 year old has made it if you know what i mean,,,this is why i like to keep things pretty simple,,,(colour wise)but if you make the cat with a comical aspect to it then you tend to get away with it,,,,
i can certainly get the colours to match but as for the markings then they will be simpliefied...

can you please call tomorrow if possible as we are due to go out tonight and i can talk to you in more depth

again many thanks    martin

Martin maybe you could build a website, and get your link posted through here and also raise a little bit for cat rescue by giving a percentage of sales to the purrs donation funds?  Would this easily be flat-packed for postage or does it have to come already made?

Just an idea  ;)

Post by: dogplant on September 13, 2009, 21:37:44 PM
hi ccmacey,,,,a website is a good idea and its something i have gave serious thought too...
however i am trying to build up enough capital to purchase equipment that would make the job far more easier and cost effective...
also i need a much bigger workshop and the list is endless to be honest but im taking it 1 step at a time...

that said when i do eventually get a website set up i would definatly love to help in any way i can to the cat rescue..

a few years back my mother was in the oldham branch of cats protection league and i used to help out at jumble sales,,sponsored walks etc,etc so i am prepared to get my hands dirty..

as for the packaging i have altered the design of the animals slightly...
before the tail used to be part of the back end of the animal but this meant if i had to post the item i had to use a huge box,,,so i decided the head and tail can be removed and everything now fits in a much smaller box...all the customer will need to do is screw them back on with the screws provided..

because the animals are all individually made and not from a production line i think it is much wiser to keep the body of the animal complete,,,otherwise i can see all sorts of problems
i have yet to weigh the animals which i will be doing tomorrow at the post office and from there i will have a good idea how much postage will be....

hope all that helps

My friend loved her white cat planter that I gave her last night. She looked so funny walking around with it under her arms while under the influence of red wine!

Those planters are pretty neat, Martin! (and here's me thinking I was a dab hand at woodwork, but you knock me for six there...  ;) )

You said you were looking for colour ideas - good way to do that, silly as it sounds, is look at cat cuddly toys and other ornaments for inspurration. ;) Stylized is fine, as long as everyone "gets" it. An easy breed to do would be Siamese - just add larger ears, slightly more to the side of the head, dark brown face, ears, legs and tail, cream body and blue eyes. :)

If you really want to sell loads and reach a serious bunch of cat mad folks, why not look into having a stand at the Supreme Show - which is the cat version of Crufts.  ;) http://www.gccfcats.org/Supreme/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=5

If you really want to sell loads and reach a serious bunch of cat mad folks, why not look into having a stand at the Supreme Show - which is the cat version of Crufts.  ;) http://www.gccfcats.org/Supreme/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=5
thanks very much for that raynard,,,,im going to give everything you said serious thought.....
the problem i have at the moment is im tring to make this project self sufficient....to do these big shows and big craft fairs im gonna need better transport than i already have,,,ie,van,,trailor,,,,,at the moment all i have is my boot and the back seat.....lol....im trying to stop dipping into my wifes bank account for my next shipment of wood....i have been making these animals for 3 months now and until recently it was a case of go to the layby,,,sell 10-12 then go shopping with the money,,,but im now running this as a business and the profits are showing a gradual increase and hopefully in the future i might have enough to buy that van...
as for the siamese,,my mother used to have 3 of them and i used to talk to one of them,,who was called benjy..i would ask him all sorts and he would reply with his meehows,,,it was great fun...

Just a thought!  ;)

That plant holder is fantastic!  Think it's already been taken over though.  :innocent:

Unfortunately they didn't think much of this little lad  :innocent:

Ruby's tail all bushed out and she went creeping up to him on her tummy  :scared: so am afraid he had to be quickly rehomed to dog loving neighbour who as it so happens recently had her 81st birthday and has 2 little dawgies just like him; so that was handy wasn't it?  ;)
