:naughty: Had to laugh at the thread title, instantly thought "oh no, NOW what has Riley eaten?!"!

Stuart, I think you are right!  Picked up some beetles in that garden last week, and my fingers smelled  afterwards.

could be wrong  but I'm sure Beetles have a built in self defense mechanism to stop them
being eaten by birds and the likes where they spray or secrete foul smelling/tasting stuff which
causes most animals to spit them out..

but I could be wrong  :evillaugh: :evillaugh: :evillaugh:

I bet "alexander" was thinking the same thing about you     (especially after you trapped him under a glass! )

This one was Alexandra, I threw Alexander out hours earlier  :evillaugh: They were both veeeery lucky, I normally set Riley on any insects/spiders - I have even lifted him up at arms length to get one off the wall before now  :evillaugh:

Ladybirds are cute, this thing is just hideous - like I said I'm not scared of it but it did make my lips curl up in disgust

I had one too. Lexy had the most vicious look in her eyes when she saw it. Under a glass it went and out the window to safe pastures  :evillaugh:

I found a little beetle, so that beetle was his name,
And I called him Alexander and he answered just the same.
I put him in a matchbox, and I kept him all the day...
And Nanny let my beetle out
Yes, Nanny let my beetle out
She went and let my beetle out-
And beetle ran away.

She said she didn't mean it, and I never sauid she did,
She said she wanted matches, and she just took off the lid
She said that she was sorry, but it's difficult to catch
An excited sort of beetle you've mistaken for a match.

She said that she was sorry, and I really mustn't mind
As there's lots and lots of beetles which she's certain we could find
If we looked about the garden for the holes where beetles hid-
And we'd get another matchbox, and write BEETLE on the lid.

We went to all the places which a beetle might be near,
And we made the sort of noises which a beetle likes to hear,
And I saw a kind of something, and I gave a sort of shout:
"A beetle-house and Alexander Beetle coming out!"

It was Alexander Beetle I'm as certain as can be
And he had a sort of look as if he thought it might be ME,
And he had a kind of look as if he thought he ought to say:
"I'm very, very sorry that I tried to run away."

And Nanny's very sorry too, for you know what she did,
And she's writing ALEXANDER very blackly on the lid,
So Nan and me are friends, because it's difficult to catch
An excited Alexander you've mistaken for a match.

Thanks Sam, just google imaged 'alexander beetle' and you're right (not that I doubted you would be :evillaugh:).  Wonder why they both gagged when they went near it then  :shify:

Just pick it up and put it outside.

I'm not frightened of them like I am sp***rs but there's no way I'm picking it up with my bare hands!

Ahhhh it's a little "alexander" beetle.

They aren't poisonous or harmful.  Just pick it up and put it outside.

There was a horrible beetle looking thing in the house earler, I trapped it under a glass to throw out later.  Lukey had other ideas and knocked the glass over, he went to sniff it and immediately gagged like he was throwing up a bit of grass or something.  I thought nothing of it until Riley went for it and then had exactly the same gagging reflex.

Does anyone know if beetles are poisonous to cats?  They normally eat any insects - flies, spiders etc immediately so something must have put them off eating it.

Here's what it looked like (couldn't keep Riley away from the glass!) - anyone know what it is?
