Have you sorted out the issues with your baby and your cat yet or are you still looking to re-home him (the cat that is)?

It would be a good idea to get him on a list with a rescue who wont have him PTS (make sure you double triple check this) if you manage to work something out in the mean time then nothing is lost.

http://www.venturefarm.co.uk/

The above two places rehome fiv cats. Maybe they would take him on?

Was Greenwood tested inhouse? If so it would be worth having another test sent off to glasgow as theres a chance he isnt. Would make it alot easier to rehome.

Hi Karen and  :welcome: to Purrs

I too have had young children and cats, I
hope that you decide to keep Greenwood.
Your toddler is more likely to be interested
in the baby once he/she arrives.

Strangely enough I have never had the problem of my son annoying the cats or following them around etc  :shy: You should see them together they get on very well. As Harry is the baby cat he is always at my sons side wanting him to play. The cats even like a stroke from my son, all 4 of them.  :)

You are very welcome, and it is refreshing that you have come back in a pleasant manner, so often when we post something that you may not want to hear the final post from the initial poster is written in an aggressive manner. Hopefully it will help to know that others could have been in the same position as you but managed to work things out amicably.

I don't wish to be rude or upset you, but many of us have had babies and many cats. Even at your little ones tender age he will understand the word no. If your baby goes near the gas fire/fire you say no, if he went near a bottle of bleach or something else that can harm him you say no, the same applies when he goes for the cat you say no. If you truly love the cat you will see that the problem can easily be solved.

We also want another baby and at the moment GW hardly gets any attention and creates so i dread to think what it would be like with another one

My daughter had 2 small children and 3 indoor cats and there was no problem.

Look on it as training for when the new baby starts getting picked on by the firstborn. I have always considered animals who are house-animals are as much a part of the family as the two-legged ones. If you give up on a cat who is simply defending itself from too-aggressive attentions from your child. THink how you would deal with it if it was a struggle between siblings. You wouldn't put the first born into care, just because it hit the new baby over the head with a tonka toy would you? It takes time and patience to get either a cat or a child to behave in the way you want them to. Sorry for the lecture, but the cat was there first........

Ive trained training him and he has got the kitchen cupboards to jump up onto

His name is Greenwood, i just want a better life for him as at the moment he's been moved out of the room where my little boy is an shut out
Thats not fair onhim ands with the FIV it doesnt do him good to be stressed

I am frightened that my little boy will agrrevate him too much one day and he'll really go for him, he keeps getting sctratched espically on the face!

I know nothing about chidren but cant he be trained to stay away from the cat cos it sounds like the cats being scared and retaliating.

He does need places to go high up where he can get away from his little tormenter  ;D

What is your cats name?

I am really sorry that you need to rehome your cat.

He will need a special home as he is FIV+
Have you tried contacting your local CP ?

Ive tried everything and everyone - the local cats protection will not take him due to his FIV and ive tried others outside of my area who are all full or have months of waiting lists

My little boy follows him which leads to the cat turning on him, the only place he is safe is up in our bedroom but he is a people cat and doesnt like being away from us

Have you tried Feliway? And giving him one to one time with his favourite toy? Does he just go up to your baby and scratch or is it because the baby pursues him, i dont know how babies develop but at 16 months they must be mobile?  :-:
If he's being hounded then create out of reach places for him to retreat to when he wants some peace and quiet.

i need to find a home for my 7yr old tabby who has FIV , he is very jealous of my 16month old baby and keeps scratching him
He loves cuddles and laps and would be ideal for a coupjle or single person with teenagers

Can anyone help - i live in Lancashire
