Hi,

I thought that potential FiV cat owners might be interested in my news.

As a bit of fun back in November 2006 I entered my cats in the 2007 Petmillions contest and very much to my surprise and delight Alfie my 3 1/2 Year old FiV boys was chosen by the judges as the 2007 winner.

I wanted to share this with any folks that are thinking of adopting an FiV pud as I sincerely hope that it helps to send out a strong message that FiV cats are every bit as "normal", loving and "fun" as any other pet. I think that it was a very bold decision by the judges to award the prize to an FiV cat and heartwarming to see other beautiful FiV cats make it through to the final. I'm very proud of all of our FiV puds, they all make the greatest ambassadors for adopting an FiV pud.

I'll let Alfie have the last word ;D

Kind Regards

Thanks,

I posted here because I think that this is excellent P.R for FiV puds. I don't enter contests but this one was fun with such a high proportion of the prize fund going to charities and Alfie's winnings going 100% towards Alfie's care.

All the best

Leigh

Frankie's gone all.........

Evvai,  :1st place: Alfie!! :wow: :wow: :cheer:
And compliments to Petmillions for their excellent class and taste in selecting our one and only Alfie!!
I didn't know your boys were FIV, they look two of the most robust perfect cats I have ever seen!!  You have done a great job with them!!
They were obviously moved by your entry, can we see that still somewhere?

But now you have to make things fair, it is Frankie's turn!! ;)

Thank you all,

I entered all my puds, Alfie, Frankie and Suzie but only one pet from each household could go through to the final and it was Alfie.

Alfie had a few bouts on conjuntivits after I adopted him caused by the vet at the charity giving him the "live" flu virus and then got cat flu just before I was due to adopt Frankie and my vet gave him a two week course of anti-biotics and that cleared up both the flu and the eye problem and, when he was over that I adopted Frankie. Frankie's an ex-outdoor cat but is very happy indoors and he has a mangled ear from fighting (probably where he caught the FiV) and needs eardrops to combat earwax but, apart from those issues their health has been absolutely excellent.

Dolcetta, my entry can be found here :

 :Luv: to all

PS. Frankie'll get his chance :)

Probably it doesn't matter now but I voted for him all the same!! ;D

Hiya,

I don't know as much about Alfie's history as I would like to. He was picked up as a stray by a dog warden and kept in kennels where apparently he was terrified of the dogs. He was then taken in by the cat charity and his first foster mum kept him in a cage in the garden where he was really afraid of humans and other cats. Liz the lady who then fostered him in her home and from whom I adopted him is a lovely lady. She was visiting the other foster mum and saw him and he came to her and she realised how timid and frightened he was. She took him home and fostered him. I was looking to adopt a cat and I had a home visit from a local charity but bthey didn't have any cats but she did mention FiV cats and that got me thinking and looking around and I found Alfie or "Little Al" on their website and the rest as they say is "history". Later last year I had a call from Liz to say that a friend in another local cat charity was trying to find a home for Frankie and asked me to put a few posting on the forums. As nobody could adopt him I decided to do so as I thought that he would make excellent company for Alfie and, in that, I'm delighted to say that I was right as they're the best of chums. By then of course I had also adopted my mum's 16 year old cat Suzie after mum went into a nursing home. Alfie is a star, not only did he accept Suzie but also Frankie but he loves me to bits and has really become a trusting and loving cat.

All the best

Leigh

Wow Leigh, you really turned his life around indeed, haven't you... Alfie doesn't look like he is scared of anything anymore, he looks like a real king now!! :)  I am so happy for him, and for Frankie too, that they found a purrfect daddy!!

   to both of them and Suzie, too!! :Luv:
