Discovered a scabby lump on Archie's back this afternoon. Managed to get an appointment half an hour later ;D
Lovely vet who confirmed Archie has an abcess which looks clean at the moment. I have to bathe it twice a day in salty water and apply an antibiotic cream. The vet shaved the area which makes it easier.
She also gave him a new injection for fleas and worms, Broadline as Frontline not very effective any more
-
I won't use frontline, quite a few years ago the fleas became immune to it, my vet recommended something else, then a bit later turned to Advantage, we have never had any problems with it and it does the tick, ear mite, and some of the worms as well, they still get the Milbumax every three months though as it doesn't cover tape worm.
-
It seems to depend on the area you are in. Advantage doesn't do ticks and they are rife here. I use frontline on the dog as it does do ticks and no problems with any unwanted visitors. You can get Advantix which does ticks though.
Poor Archie I do hope the abscess clears quickly and he keeps comfortable.
-
Poor Archie, fingers crossed it clears up quickly
-
Thank you  I have put the first lot of cream on so fingers crossed it starts to heal up
Have been a bit concerned as never used Broadline before. Poor Archie has been drooling but read if they lick the site this can happen :( Just keeping an eye on it
-
I used Broadline on all of ours and mom's cat a couple of months ago. It didn't bother any of ours but does leave a white deposit that eventually wears off.
Saintly Bro said that moms cat was a wee bit below par for a week or so though but I didn't notice any difference in her behaviour tbh. She was back to normal after a week or so though says saintly Bro. ...

Apologies Archie poppit  wot a bummer kid
Abscesses not gud Mr Man so hope it clears up toot sweet darling lad :care: :care:
-
It was Advocate they had before and that did do ticks, just looked at the packet and you are right, advantage doesn't do ticks, so I'll have to ask the vets about it, I do have the twisty tick removal tools and I have done it, but I don't like doing it and the sight of ticks makes my skin crawl. They give me the shudders, especially when they are full. Poor Archie, Abscesses are horrid.
-
:thanks:
Archie has thankfully stopped drooling now :)
A visit from Norty Sid has cheered him up again :)
Abcess looks more alarming since his fur was shaved but clean
Glad your Mum's cat is better now Rosella  It is good to hear you use Broadline :) I am always wary of new drugs :shy:
-
Morning Alison. How is Archie this morning?
-
Thanks Sue  He has had a good night after a little more drooling at midnight.
He is still asleep on my bed so will give him a while longer before bathing and creaming the site :)
-
Sending Archie more healing noodles xxxx
-
Thanks Sue
It is looking a bit of a mess today as he has been scratching it but it looks clean :(
-
:care: :care: :care: Poor Archie. :blow kiss:
-
Noodles. Why would I send Archie Noodles. Of course I meant snoozles. :-:
-
Thank you Paula and Sue
-
WOULD BE SO GRATEFUL OF ANY OPINIONS AS NEW SORE BALD BIT DEVELOPING BY ABSCESS ,WHICH IS ON THE RIGHT
-
Poor Archie, that looks sore, the only time I have seen anything like it was Trouble with his flea allergy years ago.
-
Thanks Paula
-
oooo - it looks sore, Alison. :( Think I'd make another appointment for our gorgeous boy.
-
mmm I tend to agree, poor archie
-
Thank you Sue and Dawn will give him until the morning then phone up as it really is not right and as you say sore :(
-
Poor little lamb chop.
-
Thank you Sue
-
I'd get the vet to check but wonder if he is overgrooming due to the abscess?
-
Good point Desley, but I'd still take the poor boy to the vet, poor Archie. :( :Luv:
-
Yes that is a good point and yes he keeps locking the area. Making good an appointment tomorrow
-
Agree vet visit best thing Alison. Does look sore poor lad
Not sure where it is on his back but if he keeps bothering it a comfy collar might help as long as if doesn't interfere with the sore area?
-
It is just below his neck Rosella on his back.
I wondered about a comfy collar too, have one somewhere but don't know where :-:
He can't go on like this so it will be back to the vet tomorrow
-
Hope today's visit gives you some direction, Alison xxxx
-
Thanks Sue, me too
-
What time is Archie's appointment, Alison?
-
JUST BACK PAULA
VET WAS BRILLIANT. HE SAW A VERY YOUNG ONE LAST TIME AND JUST FELT SHE MAY HAVE LACKED SOME EXPERIENCE ALTHOUGH LOVELY
SHE SAID IT WAS EITHER FLEAS OR A BITE/ATTACK. SHE SHAVED MORE FUR OFF AND IT HAD SPREAD AS THOUGHT :( THE VET CLEANED IT THOROUGHLY AND THEN GAVE HIM A PAIN KILLER. IT IS INFECTED. SHE WANTED TO GIVE ORAL ABS BUT WILL TRY LONG ACTING JAB FIRST AS DIFFICULT TO GET THEM DOWN ARCHIE
NO COLLAR BUT MAY CUSTOMISE SOME CLOTHING AS HE HAS MADE IT BLLED WITH GROOMING AND SCRATCHING SINCE HOME :(
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT
-
I hope that the AB works soon, poor uncomfy boy. :Luv:
-
Thanks Paula:hug:
-
Poor Archie, fingers crossed the injection makes him feel better soon.
-
Thank you Desley
-
Very much hope your gorgeous lad leaves the sore area alone Alison.
Am I right thinking the pain killer is anti inflammatory and will hopefully therefore help stop the itching.? Do hope so.
-
Thank you Rosella
Yes it was an anti inflammatory. He has begun to leave ever growing sore area alone thankfully
-
Just as well the vet this time was more thorough. Poor Archie. Hope he's feeling a lot more comfortable this morning, bless his paws.
-
Thank you Sue . He was a bit unsettled during the night waking me up for snuggles several times :) However, his skin looks a bit better this morning :)
-
Poor little man - he needed his mammy. Even big boys need their mammys sometimes. :shy: :Luv:
-
You are right Sue :Luv: :)
-
I'm glad that Archie's skin is looking better today. It was clearly the meowmy snoozles that did the trick! ;D
