So does that mean they would go and look if called when the next one is due?

Thank you for your enquiry.

The RSPCA can only deal with specific welfare concerns, such as if the dogs were in poor condition or had no water. The illegal selling of dogs at this market would come under the local authority, so we are pleased to see that you have reported it to them.

However, if you are aware of when the next horse market is due to take place, please call the RSPCA 24-hour cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999 with details so that a message can be passed to the local inspector.

Thank you again for contacting the Society.

Kind regards

Glad there were no kittens  :) - poor dogs though  :( - I remember when they used to sell animals at Club Row market.  :( http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=38474

I cannot say that I am pleased that they are selling horses and ponies - I did not realise that still went on

been and come back.

no kittens  :cheer:

however someone was selling 2 dogs in a pen (and they were carrying a puppy) and did take a photo, though from a fair distance.

the two dogs were quite frightened but the woman said "they were ok, it's just they live in my garden" and to someone who said "I had one of your dogs last time, remember" (who I think was a friend) she said "well i've just got too many now and need to get rid of some"

we did hover for a while and I did see a man walk off with one of the dogs and the woman looked around then popped something into her handbag.

photo to be sent to council and rspca in a bit.

lots of horses not reaching reserve and cobs selling from £150 for 1-2 year olds (and little shetland-types selling for £50 - I almost did...).
found it all very sad.

we've had reports that the monthly horse market at henley-in-arden have been selling kittens and puppies.

it is illegal to sell pets at any open market and i have managed to track down the right council dept. and speak to someone today. they say they are understaffed, know there are problems and will report it to the rspca.
they are aware of puppies being sold but its hard to prove as very often someone is just 'walking their pup'. i have been told that the kittens are in a barn so its no quite as discrete.

the council lady say rescue workers have been advised in the past not to wear uniform as it can get a bit fraught with some of the types that attend.

they are supposed to have a vet in residence for the horse stuff so if we see anything poorly that might be an option.

I hope we don't as there is no room but i shall be taking my camera just in case.
