Last kitten died last night. Only 10 days old.  RIP little one.  You struggled so hard to stay alive.

Last kitten to be born has died.  He was very scrawny and although was bottle feeding him, he was just destined not to make it.  RIP little one - lots of playmates at the Bridge.

Other two holding their own at the moment, fingers crossed.  Mum is not very well and not eating.   :(

Gosh, I'm sorry.
Its hard to cope with the foster cats when you need to concentrate on your own. I'm sorry for your loss.

It seems we are all in the same boat, somehow I draw comfort from that when I shouldn't. (I must be a bad person)

I'm sure you will do your best for these poor little one and mumcat.

I have started a thread of the association of cats and dogs homes to ask if there is anything they can do to lobby something/one that can make a real difference to what we do.

Kittens born with eyes open
« Reply #1 on: August 23, 2010, 21:46:03 PM »
Just had a really horrible 24 hours.  Firstly, pregnant cat quite small and not seemingly due for a week or so unexpectedly produced 3 kittens.  The first one was fine, the second one wasn't quite expelled so had to intervene but its eyes were wide open and very bulbous.  The 3rd one had half open eyes and didn't breathe a lot so that needed some help too.  All are suckling well but very tiny and the eyes are quite dry and sore looking.  I expect 2 of these kittens, if they survive - they are all premature - will be blind.  In all my years of cat rescue, this is the first time I have seen this.  Mum who was a bit off colour for a day or so before the birth has now produced lots of snuffles and clearly has cat flu...

Then, after being out for a few hours buying food for all our fosterers, came home to find my wonderful 14 yr old Boomerang who has cerebellar hypoplasia, collapsed and dying.  She had been ill for some time but wasn't expecting this today.  She was born with me when I lived in London and has been through all of my traumas for the last 14 years.  A great inspiration, everyone who met her loved her.  She will be sorely missed.

Sometimes, life is truly a b**ch.
